I enjoy writing about quirky, lovable women in search of their happy ever after. Second chances, do-overs, fresh starts: whatever you want to call them, our ability to reinvent ourselves is a beautiful thing.

My first visit to Sedona, AZ prompted me to start writing JEEP TOUR, my first novel. I fell in love with the red rocks and blue skies. My second novel is Guessing at Normal, a rock and roll love story. Driving on the Left is a romantic sequel of sorts to JEEP TOUR, based in Ireland. I decided to follow up Guessing at Normal with Second Guessing because I was looking for a 'happy ever after' for my main character Jill. Landscape of a Marriage is the mostly true story of park builder Frederick Law Olmsted and his late brother's widow Mary. Together they transformed the American landscape. My husband is a distant relative of Olmsted's and I was thrilled to write their story.

After writing a pair of contemporary novels with a legal twist: Miranda Writes (9/22) and Miranda Nights (7/23) I am back with a biographical novel about an amazing woman. Watch for Katharine's Remarkable Road Trip: 6/13/24!

A hopeless romantic, I am married to the love of my life. I am mom to two adults and two cats, and I enjoy reading, music, water sports and travel.

I absolutely loved the sense of realism that the author brought to this contemporary women’s fiction read. The author perfectly portrayed the relationships and struggles of the characters in a very real sense. Allowing the reader to focus on the character development rather than some overtly whirlwind romance with a steamy new man was a great direction to take the narrative, focusing instead on the protagonist’s push to grow and change herself through a new adventure and new life.

The balance of emotional storytelling and character development was perfect in this narrative. The author also managed to craft a great sense of setting in this story, allowing the Arizona desert and sense of wilderness to become a character all on its own. The theme of growth and change in the face of adversity was perfectly layered within this narrative, allowing the novel’s story to shine brightly without hitting readers over the head with the theme.

A heartfelt, engaging, and brilliant women’s fiction novel, author Gail Ward Olmsted’s “Jeep Tour” is a must-read novel for fans of the genre. Treasured for amazing characters that feel very realistic and seem to come off the page, the author tells a compelling story that will draw readers in immediately.

Jax decides to move across country to surprise a tour guide. This starts as a bit far fetched to me but I continued reading. Jax arrives on Sedona and surprises Rick who has no clue who she is. He plays along and helps her find a place to live and they become friends. Jax continues to struggle through life on her quest to redefine herself. All of the characters are likeable but many are not very realistic. I found the book boring at times but made myself finish it. It is an easy read and in the end she does find some happiness.

Starting with a fun and interesting premise - Heroine Jackie (Jax) connects with a hunky guide while taking a jeep tour of Sedona during a business trip. She returns home to find out that she's not getting tenure at the college where she teaches, so she decides to pack it in and move to Sedona to begin a new chapter in her life. Of course, she's hoping to spark up a romance with the cute, flirtatious tour guide, but she mostly just wants a change in her life, which has become stagnant. I think all women of a certain age (Jax is about to turn 40) can relate to wanting to reinvent yourself. I know I can and I was rooting for Jax to find her bliss.

Jeep Tour is an emotionally rich journey for its heroine and for the reader, as well. There are humorous high points and poignant low ones along the way. I wasn't quite sure where Jax was going to end up. What was she going to do for a career? Would she and Rick be able to make a go of a relationship, or would Jackie get a second chance with her former husband? There are no easy answers, which is why I kept frantically turning pages to find out what happened!

I'm so happy to have discovered Gail Olmstead's work as I really enjoy her witty, observational writing style. I eagerly await her next book and recommend this one to anyone looking for an entertaining read with a likable, three-dimensional heroine who feels like a friend.

Jeep Tour, is a refreshing and warm love story that has you cheering for the main character, Jax, from the very first page She's smart and attractive and easily shares her hopes, fears, and dreams, with the reader.
Jax is a college professor who had a conservative childhood. She often ponders the possibility of expanding her predictable life.
I loved her witty humor and the way she's just a tiny bit sarcastic. I laughed several times when she described her quirky personality.
When her professional life goes sideways, she makes a rather abrupt decision to pack up and move to Sedona, Arizona, She leaves behind her former husband and her best friend and sets off to make a fresh start. She intends to concentrate on fun side of life for a change. Something about peaceful, Sedona, works wonders for her and she's able "to live in the moment" for the first time in her life.
It isn't long before she finds herself in the arms of a fine looking 'Jeep Tour' guide. Her female friends take on a new flavor as well.
When the past collides with the present, Jax decides to take inventory of her life once again. Chaos and fun are blended together and the outcome will make you happy.

The writing style of Gail Ward Olmsted, is extremely enjoyable and should appeal to a wide variety of readers. If you're looking for a fun book, choose "Jeep Tour."

A thoroughly entertaining read. Jeep Tour describes a woman who has reached a cross road in her life. She is dissatisfied with her existence the way things stand and needs to make some changes. Finding that the last stumbling block has been removed, Jackie takes her chances and following a whim she relocates to Sedona, where she hopes to indulge in her happily ever after. Sometimes the best adventures in life are when we take a chance. For Jackie it meant leaving stability and a way of life behind and embracing new beginnings. I love her internal dialogue and her upbeat approach to life and the new friendships she made. Rob has always been there for her and although they are better friends than marriage partners, he remains the source of her strength and stability. A thoroughly enjoyable book, something most women can relate to and take courage from.
