About the authors
From his earliest memories, N.P. Martin was captivated by tales of the macabre and twisted. His affinity for anti-heroes and monstrous creatures led him on a quest for the perfect genre that could satisfy his craving for dark fiction, but with a touch of fun. It wasn't until he discovered urban fantasy that he felt his search was finally over, and he was hooked. His most popular series, the Ethan Drake Series, was the perfect embodiment of everything he adored about this sub-genre.
Writing had always been Martin's passion, but it wasn't until a decade ago that he took the leap into becoming a full-time professional writer, finally earning a living from his beloved pulp fiction novels. With his extensive knowledge of the supernatural world and a penchant for gripping storytelling, Martin continues to captivate and delight readers with his fantastical and dark literary creations.

There's an old adage - plan your work and work your plan - that relates to productivity. This is a writing focussed application of that idea. The five steps that precede the actual writing step should quickly become second nature to anyone who practices them, which provides all the thinking and outlining that people should need. You don't think you need to outline? Neither did I and neither did the author. He comments that for all the years he was an amateur he didn't outline but he now sees this as the mark of the professional. All the professionals he interviewed in identifying this system outlined. I didn't outline either and my writing output has been abysmal for years. Stop and start, write a little then think a little, give up before achieving my goals. This system is rapidly changing that.
The key is a system. You can't learn martial arts without a system. You can't manage hundreds of emails a day without a system. This is the system for managing your writing output.
Also, this was definitely a "fast book," written in haste and published with some typos and awkward phrasing.
That's okay. I'm not reading it as literature. I'm reading books like this for helpful tips.
However, author Martin delivers one fresh, new (to me, anyway) tip that may make this a smart purchase. It certainly was, for me.
While I prefer the "2k to 10k words" book for nuts-and-bolts writing advice, this book delivers tips every writer should consider. And, as I said, Martin shares a start-the-day exercise that was new to me and made me very glad I'd bought this book. I'd used a similar idea to improve my day in general, but applied to writing... that was a major "ah-HA!" moment for me, and kind of brilliant.
I'm giving this three stars because I almost put the book down before I reached the juicy part. The rest of it... well, I've been writing for over a decade. Most of this is familiar ground for me.
However, if I were to rate the book based on the one tip that's a game-changer for me... I'd give it five stars.
All in all, worth the money, regardless of your writing skills and experience.
I truly think the nail has been hit on the head pointing out what ails us when we write, and when we put it off. I too have been one of the "seat of my pants" writer described in here but been fortunate to make enough to pay the bills, but I know there's a lot more I can make. This guide will point the way to doing it. The power of intention is one aspect that is mentioned here that I believe is paramount to having things fall in place. Wayne Dyers book "The Power of Intention" has a lot in common with this point of the book. Far more in depth though. If you read Dr. Dyers book you'll understand how important this aspect is. It is a powerful aspect that will "cause" things to show up to help, just like this book has.
This came exactly at the right time for me. Thank you very much!

Read this book and take it's suggestions seriously and you will not only begin to write that book you always wanted, but you may actually complete it. It also offers quality resources that will assist you in getting that to completion and ready for publishing.
It is not just for novelists but for bloggers and freelance writers as well. It sets out a sequence to follow that will help with any writing project you must complete.

Neal has obviously been successful and he passes on many tips on how to write books.
The added bonus is that I will use some of his ideas in other areas of my business.

It's not a style manual; it assumes that you already know how to write, but like so many aspiring authors, you just can't put the process together and come up with the finished, polished article.
If I had to chuck out all my books on writing and keep just one, this would be it.

I also liked that the book was to the point and the handy links at the end.
More than I would usually pay for such a short reference book but well worth it.
Thank you x
(a lot of reviews say the typos put them off but that doesn't take away from the fact that the advice laid out here works)
