Really enjoyed the first (short) story about running a mining rig at the bottom of the ocean. Interesting technical advances to enable it to happen and I enjoyed the interactions between the main ("human") character, the rig (AI), and the octopus. The octopus was particularly intriguing because I have only recently discovered how intelligent these creatures actually are - which made the story very plausible.
The Memory Hacker - 3.5 stars
I enjoyed it although there were some things that were unclear to me, particularly how she ended up with that specific memory hacker doing the job in the first place (considering the timing). I also prefer happier endings. A solid 3.5 stars.
Melting Shlemiel - 3 stars
Interesting concept with a bit of a moral. Didn't really grab me though. Also so many unanswered questions.
The Camille - 4 stars
Really enjoyed this although it ended quite abruptly: as if the story was only just starting. I found it clever that some events from the other short stories had a cameo appearance.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 9, 2018The stories in this book are not typically the kind I usually read but they were interesting. The changes in reality JT Lawrence has written about are truly unique. Seeing life as different people who survive as these unusual specimens is an experience everyone needs to read about.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 22, 2018I LOVE short stories, but this was my first time getting a set of novellas! I'll be honest there wasn't one I didn't like. There were a couple I would have loved to see continued-I would have bought them on the spot! So if you like anthologies you will love these. There not as long as novels obviously but longer than short stories. The cool thing is you get more of the details than a short story can give you. Also one of the reasons I stopped getting novels is because lately they all seem to turn into a trilogy or more. I hope to see more of this type of collection.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 30, 2018Original ideas explored with delightful execution. If you care about quality of writing as well as the science and themes, you are going to be quite happy with this. The characters are quite real and sympathetic, their problems unusual, compelling, and relevant. The collection isn't just good cyberpunk, it's good hard science fiction. The authors have a bit of fun too, referring to content in each other's stories, and even their other books. Nice to read such lovingly-written and researched work! These writers are a strong team.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 5, 2019I have never read sci-fi or even a anthology before. So when colby r rice said she was going to join in with three other authors in this project, i had my reservations. But I decided to expand my genres and support her. It was surprisingly easy to get into the stories. Every author has a unique fresh view and voice in their stories. It tackled things i didn't think would come up in scifi. I'm excited for what's to come

Four separate novellas set in the same time.
Each story was well done and sufficient within itself. But to have them be interrelated, even in a very minor way, gave an interesting snapshot of the possible futures of that time.
Each story could have easily stood alone, and had some wonderful plot twists, and character development. Definitely time well spent.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful cyberpunk collection
When I heard of this collection of novellas, I leapt at the chance to read them. And I wasn't disappointed in the slightest. These four authors took a creative leap forward to the year 2054, established some ground rules, and then went away to write four very different cyberpunk tales starting from their baseline.
What's especially exciting about this collection is that each of the four authors originates from and lives in a different part of the world, and they put this diversity to excellent use, placing their stories in their home countries and cultures. At least, so far as I could tell. So one could see, for example, how they took some elements of present-day life and built on them to create a vision of the future.
I've been asked which of the stories is my favourite, and honestly, I could not say. Each take on the future is inventive, the characters lifelike and well-written. The concepts were well-portrayed through words, and each of the stories was thoroughly enjoyable.

Melting Shlemiel by Jason Werbeloff

The Camille by Colby R Rice

4.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining
I found this collection of short stories entertaining. There was a good mix of sci-fi, conspiracy and action. I do wish that some had ended a bit better but on the whole it's worth checking out. There's some pretty good plot twist and good charater development. The stories flow well individually and together. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys sci-fi, action, adventure and suspense.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is the first time I've read Colby R Rice, it won't be the last.
This is a damn good collection of novellas, Camille by Colby R Rise is especially good, I couldn't put it down once I started it. It certainly didn't go the way I expected it to.
