4th & Girl (Mavericks Tackle Love) Kindle Edition

4.6 out of 5 stars 2,869 ratings

First day of my new job, I spilled urine on an insanely hot, uberfamous football star.

Totally normal thing that we’ve probably all experienced, huh? Facepalm.

Leo Landry is tall, strong, almost criminally handsome, the New York Mavericks’ latest first-round draft pick, and the very last person on Planet Earth I want to be inadvertently giving golden showers to.

Mind you, it was
his urine, and no, there aren’t any “adult” themes in this job description.

Star Temps wheels and deals in odds-and-ends jobs, and they brought me on to play “medical assistant” for the day. Somehow, I’m leaving with a reputation I’ll never shake and fantasies about a football player I’ll never forget.

Thankfully, I’ll never see him again.

Or, at least, that’s what I thought.

Leo has other plans.

Plans that involve
me.

Gemma dropped out of college in her senior year because she was bored to tears. The thought of becoming an engineer, which is what her father and grandfather wanted her to be, was more than she could take. Yes her family was not happy with her. Then again she had not proven to them that her reasons for quitting were not reasonable. For two years now she has been working for a temp agency doing any job thrown at her. Her current job is pretending, yes pretending since she has never had any training, to be a medical assistant. Gemma is at the training center for the New York Mavericks football team, collecting urine samples. Yes, you heard me, urine samples! Simple right, well no not really. When the most gorgeous man walks in to give his sample, Gemma becomes tongue tide with his gorgeousness, so much so that she ends up spilling his urine all over herself. Needless to say, she got fired from that job.
Leo Landry was a first draft pick, by the New York Mavericks, to become one of the best cornerbacks in the league. On the day the team had to do their drug testing, Leo spots the gorgeous petite medical assistant, except she doesn’t act like she knows what she’s doing. It turns out, he was right since she spilled his sample all over herself. Now he kicks himself for not getting her name and phone number, plus it seems she was let go from her duties. A few weeks later and he can’t stop thinking about the blond with the killer body and beautiful blue eyes.
Gemma is now working for an elderly woman helping her with her home business. She handles the shipping and handling of the business, oh I forgot to tell you, she runs an online lingerie and sex toy business. Gemma freaks out at what she’s doing, but the pay is great! Now this is where it gets weird, Alma invites her nephew over for lunch one day, and who walks in but the gorgeous football player she sprayed with urine.
If this doesn’t make you go out and buy this book, I don’t know what will. I laughed so much reading this great story. There is nothing Max and Monroe can’t do!

A sweet ending with Leo and Gemma, his crazy aunt Alma, and several of the Mavericks along for advice. Leo is the rookie on the Mav team, working to prove himself, and working on an online MBA in his free time. He didn’t have time for love, but that’s the way these things happen. Gemma dropped out of her engineering program before her last year, and was temping while she tried to figure out what she wanted to do with her life. Or rather, she ignored what she wanted to do. Fun and flirty as most Max and Monroe books are, and much too short. Enjoy!

Another fabulous book in the Mavericks series. This book started and ended in a hilarious way that you have come to expect from Max Monroe. I literally could not put this book down once I started it, it was quite the entertaining read.
Leo and Gemma meet during one of many temp jobs that Gemma is working through. Of course their meeting doesn’t go as planned and it is awhile before they cross paths again. Another hilarious crossing of paths of course! Leo’s great aunt Alma or Nonnative is a hoot and you can not help but chuckling every time she shows up. You can feel the attraction between Leo and Gemma right away and luckily the attraction doesn’t dim even when they aren’t together. They are quite the hot couple when they finally come together and you root for them the whole time.
It was great having Cam as Leo’s best friend on the team and Sean adding his two cents too. I enjoyed all of these guys and I really enjoyed this whole Mavericks series.

Their first meeting was crazy unexpected! No spoiler! Leo is going crazy trying to find her. Fate had Gem a working for his Aunt, so after months, he finds her at lunch...what a laugh! There is a lot of fun banter, and some rough spots, but together they both find success in their careers, and find the way to forever! Worth the read!

This is a well written book that does a great job of showing you the character’s point of view for the most part. It leaves some pretty gaping holes on character viewpoints surrounding some toxic behaviors dressed up as support and that bothers me and might be triggering for people.

    **SPOILERS***

    ***

    ***

The way Leo repeats the exact same toxic move that is supported by his friends and her friends really upsets me. The book makes it clear that he knows how stressed and scared Gemma is of starting a music career and how horrified she was when he signed her up to play at that club the first time. For him to do it a second time without talking to her screams I don’t care about your feelings when I think I “know” what’s best for you. It’s played off like she was being ridiculous and dramatic wrapped in her own fear and they never have a conversation in the book talking about it. Like has she now decided he knows her pretty well and even when she’s scared she trusts his judgement or is she still absolutely pissed he didn’t even talk to her before doing the same thing again and commuting her to something she didn’t sign up for. It’s not that hard to give someone a push by talking to them. That he gave a heartfelt apology and then did the exact same thing and sprung it on her AGAIN knowing she was absolutely horrified the last time he did it is TOXIC behavior that should not be glorified. It’s not healthy or helpful if you just toss someone into the deep end of their trauma with no support and are just like please swim. That was not supportive of him that was controlling of him.

5.0 out of 5 stars My favourite book of 2018 by far!

This has to be my favourite read of 2018! It’s hilarious, full of spunk and comedy. The characters were flawless and heart warming and seriously, have you not seen how hot Leo Landry is? SWOON!

4th & Girl is the first book I’ve ever read from These authors and I’m so glad I took a chance and brought this. And if you haven’t already, sign up for their newsletter because that’s the whole reason I took a chance. Their newsletter is funny and full of random stuff. They’ll truly have you mesmerised.

The only thing in this book that confused me, was that Gemma sang at the Drag and Karaoke, but almost had a coronary or aneurism or something when she landed a bigger gig. Like, huh? What? But apart from that this books was seriously amazing, completely awesome and hella funny.

I LOVED Leo, I mean who wouldn’t? Pro football player, baby blue eyes.... delish! *hearty-eyed emoji*.

Gemma was so awkward and clumsy that I instantly loved her. I need a friend just like her because my life would be happy continuously.

The story itself was brilliant, the Drag was one of my favourite scenes and one I couldn’t stop laughing at. The ending was pretty comical too. Trust Gemma to ruin the moment.

Anyway, go to amazon or wherever, and one-click the heck out of this book. You won’t be disappointed!

5.0 out of 5 stars Didn't want it to end

I was almost peeing myself with laughter with our lovelies meet cute in 4th and Girl (you will understand when you have read this book why).

After the dark read I had just finished, this light, fun and adorable story was just what I needed.

Max Monroe have not disappointed me yet with their stories, and Leo and Gemma's story was all kinds of cute and adorable and funny.

I liked that Leo wasn't all about the football, loved that he had his head on straight and was thinking about the "what ifs" of his career and was also doing something about it.

Gemma - I felt for her as she was kind of floundering in life, however I got frustrated with her as I wanted her to push herself and not worry about what her family would think. I was all "girl, you say you are an adult and can make your own decisions, but you aren't"

Also, I want to be Alma when I grow up - don't want to spoil anything but lord that woman is funny!

I loved that this was drama free - no OTT, stupid actions or miscommunications. Our lovelies are adults and acted like it.

I didn't want the Mavericks series to come to an end, but now that leaves more time for Max and Monroe to write us new guys to fall in love with.

I have had this book in my TBR pile for awhile and I am really glad I finally gave it a read.
Leo turned out to be a more than worthy book boyfriend. Gemma is a little bit of a hot mess to begin with but all it takes is a little 80 year old, with a questionable on line shop to help Gemma get some direction. In more areas of her life than she ever expected.

Ok so... i just finished 4th and girl and i have 2 complaints... ok it might be 3... there appears to be 2 books missing... seriously poor Teeny and Sam just got left hanging in the wind.. seems like an oversight to me that there are not 2 more Mavericks books for me to swoon and fan girl over... 2 i kind of want a book for Abby now... cause i wanna know sooooooooooooo much more cause she's awesome... and my last complaint and maybe most important i want to adopt Nonna as my Nonna and I can't 😉😉 There needs to be more Alda's in this world! OK so I am only complaining cause i want more and the book was absolutely perfect and i am off to start another book since i am totally addicted and it's 1:35 am here.. i know, i know i should be going to bed... but who needs sleep and dreams when Max Monroe's books exist and I have 5 more to catch up!!! Thank god The Day I Stopped Falling for Jerks showed up as one of my Kindle suggested reads (read that too if you haven't yet)... soooooooooooooooooooooooo hooked!!!!!!!!!! These two rock!!!!
