About the authors
Robert Fear has lived in Eastbourne, on the south coast of the UK for half his life. He moved there to be with Lynn, his future wife and is still there with her over thirty years later. As cat-lovers they have taken on several rescue cats over the years and are owned by three at the moment.
For his day job Robert works as a self-employed software consultant. In his spare time he writes, edits and self-publishes books, and organises annual creative writing showcases.
Robert’s interest in travel goes back to his twenties when he spent most of his time abroad. His experiences included; a summer in Ibiza, hitch-hiking around Europe and touring the USA & Canada. His most eventful trip was in 1981 when he travelled around Asia.
Born into a religious sect known as the Exclusive Brethren, his father John took the brave step of leaving it with his young family when Robert was nine years old. Robert never saw his grandparents again but is thankful for being able to grow up outside this restrictive group. His life has been full of adventures that he would never have experienced otherwise.
Lizbeth Meredith is an author, professional speaker, and podcast host of Persistence U with Lizbeth who helps increase resilience through story. Her memoir, Pieces of Me: Rescuing My Kidnapped Daughters is now a Lifetime Television movie called Stolen By Their Father.
In the past, Lizbeth has worked as a domestic violence advocate and a child abuse investigator, and recently retired from government service after twenty years of supervising juvenile probationers. Today, she teaches at a private college and continues to write. She holds a degree in journalism and a graduate degree in psychology.
Lizbeth's work has been featured in Chicken Soup for the Soul, Jane Friedman's blog, and Alaska Magazine.
When not working, you can find Lizbeth at the local movie theater or Facetiming with her adult daughters and grandcats.
Sue Bavey (writing as S. Bavey) is an English Mum of two, living in Massachusetts, USA since 2003 with her family.
Her debut: “Lucky Jack (1894 - 2000)" is her grandfather, Henry John Rogers’ award-winning biography. Rogers lived with her family when she was born until she was six years old and then again in later life. He was her father’s father, but her mother diligently collected the newspaper columns he dictated to a local reporter, at the age of 103 and kept them in scrapbooks in her attic, where they gathered dust and yellowed over time. A few years ago Sue found all the scrapbooks and wanted to get all of those stories into a book for her kids to read. That was the germ of an idea which – thanks to her having time during the Covid lockdown – has now resulted in the biography of Jack Rogers being written.
"Kookaburras, Cuppas & Kangaroos" tells the story of Sue's mother, Elizabeth Isle, who emigrated to Australia in 1960 for three years. It is told mostly through letters home and travel diaries.
"A Yorkshire Lass: The Early Years" is the prequel to "Kookaburras, Cuppas & Kangaroos" and tells the story of Elizabeth Isle's childhood in Yorkshire during World War 2 and thereafter until she decided to emigrate to Australia in 1960.
"Daydreams: The Stories and Poems of John Cornelius Rogers" is a collection of her late father's memoirs and poetry. She collected these and chose the ones she wanted to present and in which order. Then she transcribed them, which was quite a task as her father wrote in pen or pencil on loose sheets of paper without any page numbers. He also had difficult to read handwriting, making it an even more challenging task.
"An Icelandic Adventure: One Family's Quest for Puffins, Pleasure and Perfect Pizza" is a mini travel memoir I wrote after a visit to Iceland with my family during the lava flows of 2024.
The other books on her profile are anthologies which contain short stories and memoirs, including experiences moving from England to USA and other travel stories.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 13, 2022The 50 personal stories in this volume represent the result of a competition that Robert Fear has offered annually on his website since 2015. From travel stories to coming-of-age and beyond, from house-hunting to sports, from stories where the protagonist is a dubious human to those that capture our hearts with animals often more amusing, loving, and loveable than we ourselves are, these stories will take you literally all over the world and, sometimes, beyond.
What these stories all have in common is a feel for the challenges great and small that life presents us with, the obstacles that litter the way, and the determination, love and sometimes selflessness that we draw on so that we may overcome, thrive and flourish – which, after all, is what life is all about.
I am honoured to have stories of my own included in this fascinating and varied collection.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 2, 2023Robert Fear has once again outdone himself in his gathering of stories of the heart! As in each of his other anthologies, this one carries on the grand tradition of excellence. You'll find a wealth of reading pleasure in these pages, I guarantee. Well done once again, Mr. Fear!
- Reviewed in the United States on October 4, 2023They say that variety is the spice of life, and this is precisely how this book was to me. It contains a great variety of personal stories, all from the heart and spiced in so many different ways that it is impossible to summarise them in one review. All I can say is that I genuinely enjoyed these stories. Some were more my type of spice than others, but all were eye-opening and provided valuable insights into remarkable lives worldwide. Thank you to the editor, Robert Fear, for making these stories accessible – they all deserve to be heard - and read!
