- Reviewed in the United States on December 4, 2017Two things caught my attention right off, before even opening the book: Shambhala and the Grumman Albatross. I've got a work-in-progress myself set in Shambhala (with a much different take) so this was a natural for me. The Hunt for Shambhala is a well-written, well-researched, fast-paced thrill ride, with colorful characters and exotic locales. I would have liked to have spent a bit more time in Shambhala itself, but we are hot on the trail of a diabolical bad guy and must foil his nefarious plans, so exploration and sight-seeing will have to wait until after the E-ticket ride of a conclusion. (Does anyone even remember E tickets?) Another reviewer didn't care for the dialogue, but I found the banter added color to the characterizations and provided a bit of comic relief here and there. By the end of the story, I felt as if I knew the characters well, and am very much looking forward to the next installment. - Ken Wallin, author of Falling to Eden and the upcoming Mountains of the Macaw.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 15, 2021I love the characters in this book; they grew on me as they grew on each other. The interplay was absolutely hilarious, and I was extremely glad the book ended the way it did. I’m excited to find a new-to-me author and look forward to more books in this series.
The only negative: it needed to be run by a good editor one more time. Errors always pull me out of a story, and there were more than I find acceptable in a book. That being said, the story was good enough that I will be buying the next book in the series. It’s a trade off.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 2, 2018Book is good, but not great. Reading the sequel now and it is better.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 10, 2021Very good story about a wanna-be relic hunter and crew.crew is wrong word, they are her friends. And Mitch got sucked in by being at the right place at the wrong time. Then not being able to tell Selena "no" when she asked for one more little thing. The story is fast moving, action filled and fun to read. Great job. Thank you.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 30, 2020An exciting start to a new series!! This was my first foray into the world of Rob Jones, and I got to say I’m glad I made the leap. While there are some inconsistencies within the book, characters seem to change height/appearance/ability on a whim, even from one page to the next, it’s not enough to take you out of the book or the action. Especially the action since it’s filled to the brim with action, exotic locales, and unique events. If you’re debating, I’d say it’s worth it to pick up a copy of this book today. You won’t be disappointed.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 19, 2021Great story, and a lovely introduction to some very interesting characters. You were kept on the edge of your seat wondering how and if they were going to reach their goal. The interaction of the different people was fun. If you want an exciting, but fun ride then you will love this book. Highly recommend it.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 20, 2020Love the new Avalon series. Fun characters and never ending action. Rob Jones' books always deliver lots of fun and adventure.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 28, 2020A very enjoyable and entertaining read. Engaging characters with predictable and sometimes unbelievable events. Good but not fantastic. I will read more of Mr. Jones books in the future.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great ride into the adventure thriller genre
Rob Jone corners the laid back easy to read adventure/thriller genre with a dash of historical back story..The Avalon crew is a group of likeable rogues who end up in tricky situations. Truth and righteousness alwY win over the villain
Great kick back read plot lines not to complex well worth supporting this indie writer.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good adventure book
I love adventure books! And while this one was enjoyable I almost gave up on it at the beginning for the simple reason of the way the Australian character was depicted. I'm so sick of Authors always making Aussies sound like absolute drongo's! (yes I deliberately used Aussie slang) NO ONE TALKS LIKE THIS ON A REGULAR BASIS!! And while this author (who is British but lives in Australia) is not the only one to do it, he's the author I'm blowing up on.
