About the author

Elizabeth Bailey grew up in Africa with unconventional parents, where she loved reading and drama. On returning to England, she developed her career in acting, theatre directing and finally writing.
Elizabeth's latest venture is The Lady Fan Mystery series, published by Sapere Books. The novels feature amateur sleuth Lady Ottilia Fanshawe and a cast of family members including her husband and champion Lord Francis Fanshawe. She originally published Regency romances with Harlequin Mills & Boon and has many titles in her Brides by Chance Regency Adventures series, now also published by Sapere, as well as standalone Regency and Georgian romances.
Elizabeth also writes edgy women's fiction: Her dual time novel Fly The Wild Echoes, which deals with past lives, and For One More Tomorrow, where the ghost of the real Macbeth returns, protesting his villainous portrayal by Shakespeare. And she has published a romantic suspense novella, Silence of a Stranger.
Elizabeth lives in Sussex, England. She is still an inveterate reader with eclectic tastes and she spends her spare time helping other writers improve their craft.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 14, 2021This is an enjoyable book with an unexpected twist of mystery. Having read An Angels Touch I want to read another book by Elizabeth Bailey.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 11, 2017The only problem I had with this work is that, like most in the genre, the end seems rushed. I really enjoyed the style and characters very much. I liked reading a Georgian rather than Regency period piece for a change, not that there's much to distinguish the two here in terms of style, but it was fun imagining this time period in which so much was changing. I felt like Bailey did a great job of bridging Fielding's period with Austen's.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 16, 2017Fantastic storyline. The author wove a wonderful tale of love and forgiveness of oneself. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a great clean regency.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 9, 2020I enjoyed this story and will definitely read more by Elizabeth. I wish they were a little shorter in some details. Thank you
- Reviewed in the United States on August 4, 2019This was a well written story with a really good story line, but I just had a hard time with the heroine who lived in her head too much of the time. Being a Gothic Novel reader, and desiring to be a writer of the same, her constant thoughts of how things could possibly be worse and making up scenarios in her mind made her miss a lot of what was going on around her. After almost writing her own very unhappily-ever-after, she at last turned a corner in her thinking and ran to the HEA that was meant for her.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 30, 2024We often have preconceived ideas about people and will act towards them accordingly. The realization of this fact occurs to Verity too late and she is forced to face her own prejudices. Excellent plot!

- Reviewed in the United States on February 13, 2023Thanks, E Bailey, for a truly delightful story. I love the variety of characters and the twisty story line. Sympathetic treatment of all, except, of course, the villains, with a touch of humor as well. This story made me smile all the way through.

5.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't put it down
very well written. Found no errors. Very much enjoyed from start to finish.
Not being gifted with the heroine's vivid imagination, I did find it difficult sometimes to follow her (to me) twisted logic. But that's the joy of being allowed into a gifted author's imagination.

5.0 out of 5 stars Charming romatic tale
Loved it! This is a lovely story - one of those historical romances that make one think of Georgette Heyer books.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the doyennes of traditional Regency
A delightful novel that doesn’t shy away from tragedy. It’s full of engaging characters, from Verity and Henry to Wystan and Peggy. The milieu of Tunbridge Wells is vividly depicted, and as with all Bailey’s novels, it is expertly written and edited. Also check, out her Brides By Chance series. A sheer delight.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lovely
Great trad regency with a good story, nicely confused lovers & a bit of skulduggery. A satisfying read with a nice period feel.
