"Spellbinding! Edge of my seat gripping. This series just keeps getting better. A brilliant fantasy world with compelling characters. An epic good versus evil adventure. A must read." - USA Today Bestselling Author, J.A. Culican
"This is an excellent continuation from the first book in the series. It had me on my toes the entire time, waiting to find out what would happen. The dynamics between Hugo and Diamond were as amazing as ever, and once you add in the rest of the characters, it made for a great combination. The character growth was on point, and learning far more about the world's history and its characters left you wanting more even up until the very end. I would give this book six stars if I could. If you're looking for your next book boyfriend, look no further. Hugo is it. Dark, mysterious, and a whole lot more! Now to find my own fae warrior..." - Heather Karn, Paranormal Author

    Two words: character development!

Synopsis: Diamond and Hugo are captives of the Queen in her capital city, Diamond as a prisoner and Hugo as her abused servant and guard. The Queen has plans for Diamond and her powers that will undoubtedly lead to her death, but should Hugo be caught trying to help her escape it could spell doom for both of them. Meanwhile, the Wraith Lord draws near and only Diamond stands a chance at halting his forces—as Diamond trains with the army and Hugo oversees her physical and magical progress, will the rift between them heal? And more importantly, how will they escape their prisons?

I LOVED this book—more intrigue, more romance, more magic and combat. And the emotional roller coaster at the end? My jaw was on the floor, along with my heart. But what made this book so much better than its predecessor was Diamond’s character development. No longer is she the wimpy, whiny child of the last book—now she’s taking her destiny into her own hands and stepping up to her responsibility to herself and others. She still has her panic attacks—I’d be disappointed if she didn’t, there are so few heroines with this disorder—but she learns to cope with them and overcome them. Diamond becomes an absolute weapon while learning her worth. I love it. Furthermore, Hugo has his own growth from the brooding warrior to reveal more of a playful and soft side that was somewhat lacking in the last book.

In short, A Bond of Blood and Fire fixed most gripes I had with the first book and then some! I cannot wait for the third to release!

Ok so firstly this book was addictive and i was able to understand and like, love and hate characters, i found book one a little hard in the beginning to get into, but after reading book 2 I'm even more happy i stuck it out. Who doesn't like Dragons, evil queens, secret groups, Princes, Fae and magic?
Diamond and Hugo go through ups and down as his loyalty to the queen is wavering. Hugo must pull away from diamond to truely keep her safe, but can he?
I like Jack and Hugos friendship within this book, as we understand them both more.
Diamond and Hugo both grow within this book and we see that as they grow in both maturity and understanding to allow themselves to become great weapons for not only the evil queen, but jack, his people and the people around them.
<3 a good read with an exciting yet terrifying set of events, I'm looking forward to reading book 3.

This series is totally amazing. I love how stories within stories intertwined that reveal undercurrents of deceit and betrayal. Causing the feelings that Diamond and Hugo have for one another to spiral out of balance. Due to circumstances beyond their control. So they keep their feelings at bay. The story is full of twists and turns to keep ones interest to see what happens next. I throughly enjoyed the story. I am looking forward to the next book. I recommend this story wholeheartedly. I am voluntarily leaving an honest review of this book because I love to read and endorse an author's writing I enjoy without revealing to much of the story to not to ruin it for others.

Loved this second book in the series! I’ve grown to love both Diamond and Hugo even more along with the awesome secondary characters. I love that communication and honesty is a major priority for this couple. It makes their relationship one to cheer on more than others. I feel a lot of YA romance conflicts are centered on lack of communication and one thinking they know better than the other how to handle a situation so this book and relationship is completely refreshing. Great book!

This book was not as good as the first but I'm still enjoying the series. I'm getting tired of the back and forth between Hugo and Diamond. Together, not together.... It gets old. They seemed to have resolved that so I'm hoping the third books moves to a new conflict.

If you liked book 1 then you will absolutely love book 2. So much happens in this book and it is intense. More secrets are revealed. I love the relationship changes and growth that has occurred and well continue to do so between Diamond and Hugo. I am excited for the next part of the journey in book 3. If you have not given this series a try, you are missing out on a crazy intense adventure!

5.0 out of 5 stars A gripping read that will have you feeling a myriad of emotions
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on June 11, 2017
This is the second book in The Goddess and the Guardians series. I'm a big fan of the first book and fell in love with the characters and the whole story when it was first released last year. The end of the first book actually lefy me with a massive book hangover so to say I was impatiently awaiting the release of book two is putting it mildly!

A Bond of Blood and Fire lived up to all my expectations. In this book we finally get to see Diamond grow and blossom into the woman she's destined to be. She's no longer as scared and whiny as she was in book one. She's starting to accept the s*** life is throwing at her and working on how she can start to combat that and become a force to be reckoned with. I was cheering her on at several places in this book and I can't wait for her to finally, fully come into her magic and hopefully beat the Queen. Now the Queen is as nasty as she was in book one, if not more. It's been a long time since I've disliked a character in a book quite as much as I do her. I can't wait, and I mean that as I'd like it to happen sooner rather than later, for her to get her comeuppance from both Diamond amd Hugo as I feel they both need to dispose of her together.

Hugo, a character who in book one gave many other readers some ambivalent feelings but who I already liked has shown me in this book just why I like him. I understand why there are so many mixed feelings towards him as there are times throughout this book where he may deserve some hate, however you need to understand why Hugo is behaving the way he is and a lot of it is to protect Diamond as she is the one he really cares about. I really loved that the relationship between Diamond and Hugo is amped up a notch in this book and the way it's developing. I can't wait for it to go further in the next book as I feel that they are reaching that point.

A Bond of Blood and Fire gets five stars from me for many reasons. Karen Tomlinson seems to be master of making you feel many, varied emotions towards her characters whilst reading her book, sometimes all in just one page. The world building in book two is just as good as it was in book one and I'm looking forward to seeing more of this world in future books. The character development is spot on, it's not rushed but it also isn't going at too slow a rate. We see that the characters have flaws but we see how they learn to love with those flaws and use them to their advantage. The best thing about this book though was the excitement, nerves and tension I felt whilst reading it. Certainly towards the end of the book it's real edge of your seat gripping action. I can't wait to see what will happen next and I can't wait to read the next book. It really was an enjoyable read that has stayed in my mind long after I've finished reading it.

You will need two things to read this: tissues and a stomach for violence, and I don't mead that badly. Few YA fantasy books go into the depth that this does with the battles, cruelty and brutality of war, having said that, it doesn't cross the line into purely adult making this a book that can be enjoyed by older teens and adults alike.

Diamond grew beautifully in this book, the softer unchallenged half-fae from the previous books becomes strong and tempered, yet loses none of her kindness and other things that make her who she is. There's some pretty horrid scenes between her and Hugo before the halfway point and, judging by some peoples reviews, it pushed too far for some readers. Not for me. Given the context and other factors in the book, his actions make sense. There seems to be a split opinion on it.

I loved Hugo in this, despite the earlier brutality and rigidness, you get to see a different side of him and it's amazing :)

The ending is awesome though a bit of a cliff-hanger, which is annoying considering I have to wait until June for the next in the series. I never really pre-order, but I have for the next book! Really hoping for a HEA for Hugo and Diamond.

I can't begin to describe how exciting this book is! I literally got heart palpitations and anxiety reading it. Following on with Diamonds story we continue the roller coaster of what will happen between her Hugo. I went from hating him to respecting him in one breath.

We see the story develop towards the wraith God battle that the evil queen has her set up to fight in. Diamonds strength and will comes into its own and her character is developed in a very well written way.

There are so many twists and turns the adventure is an thrilling one. My only issue is that I have to wait on the next book.

One of my favourite young adult series of the year!
