About the author

Humorous and quintessentially English with excitement and magic.
Cat adorer and chocolate lover, British author Holly Bell’s life changed in a day. A best-selling author friend convinced Holly that she could write cozy mysteries, after many years' experience with non-fiction, photography and video making.
Holly devoured all of the Agatha Christie books long before she knew that Miss Marple was the godmother of the Cozy Mystery. Her love of JRR Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings meant that her first literary creation in this area would have to be a cosy paranormal.
Having derived immense delight from the adventure of writing Amanda Cadabra and The Hidey-Hole and its 7 sequels to date, Holly has more in the pipeline.
Her favourite feline is a black cat called Bobby. He is black. Like her favourite hat. Purely coincidental.
Holly loves to hear from readers. Find her on amandacadabra.com/contact, Facebook.com/hbamandacadabra. She always responds in person.
The Amanda Cadabra Cozy Paranormal Mysteries (in order):

- Reviewed in the United States on December 27, 2018The characters were likable fun and unique. The story was creative, different and I learned from it. The mystery plot was well done and sit on the edge of your seat but restful also in its description of the town and it's people. I wanted to visit these people and their caring but intrusive village. I cann t wait to see what happens next and I'm sure the author will spin another tale that will enthrall me and keep me guessing i loved and enjoyed these two books i hope they never end.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 12, 2019Enjoyed this fast paced page turner with great detail. Having read the first book I loved this one. I must say had I not read the first it would have been difficult to follow the deep relationships. The story is well connected and delves into detail. This was a great read.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 4, 2020Another wonderfully fun mix of mystery, magic, and a murder mystery the origins of which go back to the Second World War. Amanda has to put up with the local town trying to match-make for her, running her restoration business, and deal with a new mystery. When a new allergy clinic is built on the site of an abandoned small hamlet near her town, she visits the construction site and notices a strange man who seems out of place. As she goes to the clinic in the hopes of helping her asthma she stumbles into the scene of a murder, discovers an unusual source of information, and makes more connections that will serve her well in her endeavors. In addition, there is more development on the overarching mystery that forms an arc to be continued. There are many quotable moments, a wonderful cast of believable characters, and a great plot the book is one that most will enjoy. One of the things I love about the series is that the reflection of small-town relationships.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 10, 2019I like this series. It is well written and a joy to read. Amanda, our main character is a young woman, living in an English village. She is well loved by the villagers, but they don't know her secret. Amanda is a witch. The police have been trying to solve her family's murders for the past twenty or so years. She has to be careful, when she goes to meet a friend and sees he was murdered, she has to tread lightly. This storyline is a great read, enjoy!
- Reviewed in the United States on March 5, 2022This is both a murder mystery and a story of a young witch exploring her powers and her past. There's a hint of romance as well. While the murder is resolved there is an ongoing mystery as well. An excellent read.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 27, 2019Amanda is on the trail of a few puzzling pieces of hidden historical secrets that would give her a better picture of her family origin and about a traitor’s betrayal which amounted to treason. Fear knows no boundaries it seems as it travels down through time in a family most anxious and eager to maintain their reputation, they think nothing of committing murder to keep the truth from being unearthed, She is also faced with a few villagers with witchery in their blood and romance in their veins, making them out to be in my book annoying matchmakers. A curiously intriguing, and bewitching tale with deeply hidden secrets buried underground.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 15, 2022Absolutely charming series. Just enough magic for both believers and nonbelievers. I started with the first book. Each next one is better written.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 19, 2018What fun to be back in Amanda Cadabra's world. Ms Bell has created a wonderful village full of characters that feel like old friends, and her wonderful imagination shines through. This is a story with some mysteries, a bit of romance, a ghost, and a story that leaves you wanting to spend more time in Amanda's world. The writing is tight, and the lot has hints of more to be revealed, but without leaving you the feeling like it's a cliff-hanger.
I did receive an advanced coy of the book, but that in no way affected my review. I loved this book and can't wait for the next one.

5.0 out of 5 stars This Cozy Mystery Series Keeps Getting Better.
So, what did I like about it?
I really like Holly Bell’s writing style; it’s easy to read with engaging plot-lines, intelligent prose that is sprinkled with gentle humour about a village she’s created that is full of captivating characters that I also found completely believable.
I fell in love with our main characters when reading the previous book – Amanda Cadabra and the Hidey-Hole Truth - and loved watching them grow throughout this tale too; our resilient heroine Amanda Cadabra has got all the qualities that I look for in a female lead (she’s definitely got gumption) and Detective Thomas Trelawney is intelligent and a worthy hero. Oh, and I can’t talk about our main characters without mentioning my favourite feline, Amanda’s familiar, Tempest or as one of the characters refers to him Don Tempestioni . Lol! He is an amazing character and I love all the scenes that he dains to appear in.
I enjoyed getting to know more about the fictional village of Sunken Madley; its history during World War Two and the neighbouring villages. Cellar of Secrets features characters from the first book as well as new villagers and visitors alike. Ms Bell writes her characters with many of the foibles that I see in my family, friends and the people around me, this make her characters more believable for me and they begin to feel very real which means that it’s much easier to get caught up in the tale.
This story kept me guessing; there are a few mysteries for our heroine, Amanda, to solve within these pages, but fear not dear reader, no frustrating cliffhangers here (Woohoo!) and there are enough twists and turns during this tale to satisfy my Miss Marple side.
I loved the fact that Amanda Cadabra and the Cellar of Secrets had me on the edge of my seat holding my breath, taking a moment to revel in wonder, reaching for the tissues to dry my tears as well as smiling and chuckling out loud.
So, ummm, was there anything I disliked about it?
There wasn’t anything about this story that niggled or didn’t work for me, hence the 5 star rating.
I would just like to take this opportunity to say that much of the world building relating to the amazing history and somewhat mystical properties of Sunken Madley, including Amanda’s standing in the village, how and why the locals have a special place in their hearts for “Our Amanda” was beautifully platformed throughout the first book. Jumping straight in with Cellar of Secrets may mean that new readers could feel a bit perturbed about this aspect of life in the small village for Amanda.
Also, as this is only the second book in a new series there are still questions left to answer about Amanda’s family, her relationship with Detective Trelawney and what their future may hold. In my opinion, this is a good thing as it leaves enough background story arcs to continue into the next book and beyond.
So, basically what I’m saying is...
I loved this book and couldn’t put it down. It’s got everything that I look for in a 5 star read; great scenes that get the adrenaline pumping, an intelligent mystery or two to get the little grey cells whirling, nail biting tension and well written humour (there’s even a sprinkling of romance for our heroine).
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys ‘cozy mysteries’ within the paranormal genre and I don’t think there is any content within these pages that could offend anyone. I’m looking forward to finding out what adventures Amanda gets caught up in next.

5.0 out of 5 stars Chapter 32/33
Enjoyed the book, looking forward to the next in the series. Chapter 32/33, The Big Tease, I did have to laugh through these two chapters, but it could be just my age, an old radio show, Round the Horn, two characters in it, Julian and Sandy, whenever the characters in the book were speaking it was in the voices of the radio couple. Was the choice of names deliberate or a lucky choice? If you have never heard the originals do track them down, probably on Youtube, but then they are probably politically incorrect now.

5.0 out of 5 stars Spellbinding
These were great books can’t wait for book three. Although set in modern times Amanda Cadabra life has a Old world feel about it. All the recurring characters are quite loveable. I can’t wait for the love between Amanda and Thomas to take off. Brilliant story telling by Holly Bell. The magic she wheeled is great I love the murder mystery as well. A must read enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thoroughly recommended
I very rarely review, but just wanted to say this series is really good fun and fascinating as the background story unfolds. Well written ( and I am very critical of bad grammar/spelling!!) Thanks Holly for entertaining through the lockdown.
