Humorous and quintessentially English with excitement and magic.

Cat adorer and chocolate lover, British author Holly Bell’s life changed in a day. A best-selling author friend convinced Holly that she could write cozy mysteries, after many years' experience with non-fiction, photography and video making.

Holly devoured all of the Agatha Christie books long before she knew that Miss Marple was the godmother of the Cozy Mystery. Her love of JRR Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings meant that her first literary creation in this area would have to be a cosy paranormal.

Having derived immense delight from the adventure of writing Amanda Cadabra and The Hidey-Hole and its 7 sequels to date, Holly has more in the pipeline.

Her favourite feline is a black cat called Bobby. He is black. Like her favourite hat. Purely coincidental.

Holly loves to hear from readers. Find her on amandacadabra.com/contact, Facebook.com/hbamandacadabra. She always responds in person.

Cleverly written characters and plot hold up throughout the series and make the reader want more. Hints of potential romance, some paranormal substance and lots of wry humor keep hold, with the inevitable cliffhanger as bait. Well done!

I read each of these books hardly stopping for everyday life. They are that good! All of the characters are so well written and I feel like a resident of Sunken Madly...By far , one of the best mystery series I've read. I do hope there will be more.

These books leave you wanting more. I read the first book and loved the characters. I'm in hopes there's more to come.

Since I lived there as a child, I’ve been captivated by all things British. In fact, I set aside all but the absolutely necessary and binged the six books in the series so far. As of this writing, Amazon incorrectly repeats Book 1 as Book 7, leaving me bitterly disappointed when I finished Book 6 and immediately wanted to plunge ahead.

The books are delightful. I both feared for the characters’ well-being and laughed along with them. The books are somewhat unusual in the genre because the protagonist isn’t an orphan, hasn’t had her life implode, and doesn’t inherit a bookstore/bakery/mansion/bed and breakfast from an unknown, wealthy relative. She doesn’t come upon her abilities suddenly and with surprise when she turns 16 or 18 or by accident. The books grow gradually and very naturally, expanding along their own storyline while creating new mysteries to be solved, without the repetition of essentially the same theme in book after book after book, ad nauseam.

They are timelessly British. The language and interaction between the characters is formally polite while maintaining affection and familiarity, with little modern popular language to spoil the mood. In other words, courteously old fashioned but set in today’s world. I also congratulate the author on her vocabulary.

The author manages to create depth in each character that I was able to relate to - I would seriously consider moving to Sunken Madly if it actually existed. The languages breathe life into the stories, and the names of places and people deserve a special mention for their creativity. Kudos, too, to the characters for drinking positive gallons of tea and the author’s lovely description of what is included in each meal. What truly British book could realistically leave out these details?

I not only highly recommend this entire series, I am waiting with baited breath for the next book. It can’t come soon enough. And, although he’s not quite a Tempest, my own ‘iddle bo fluffums may need a very special treat, just because.

FYI: To avoid writing six separate reviews, I shall be submitting this one for each of the other five books. I started the next immediately after finishing the previous one and didn’t want to stop my enjoyment of the read.

Amanda Cadabra is back! She and the Inspector are headed to visit her uncle Michael. They are planning to hear the story of Lucy. What secrets with this help reveal? As Amanda and the Inspector learn more about their family history‘s will it draw them closer or push them apart? I love this series by Holly Bell. She keeps you on the edge of your seat waiting for the next tantalizing bite to come along. Just as you think you figured part of it out another twist is involved. And even when you reach the end of the story you know there’s still more to find out. If you’re looking for a series that will keep you wanting more, this is it! This series is well written, rich with history, and even educational. But you won’t mind learning. I am so proud to say that I have read all of her books and I plan to read every single one that continues to come out.

I thoroughly enjoyed this series and this book was no exception.
It's well plotted, entertaining and compelling. Good character developement, a solid mystery.
I like the style of writing and I hope to read other stories featuring these characters.

A bit on the dull side, not what I had expected, too much back in time for me. I thought it needed more intrigue and excitement, but it was okay, a little low on the intrigue meter and the same for excitement.

I ABSOLUTELY Loved these books! I read all 6 of them back to back. I was a little hesitant because I don't like fantasy but the story line is so strong it all went well together. I loved Amanda with her character and charm. The Inspector and his protector of Amanda. I loved the introduction of Lucy ( which stumped me at first) and her and Hogwarth finding love. There is not one character I didn't LOVE. I cannot wait for book 7!

This series is closing and I do hope it that it doesn't end on a cliff hanger like the books before it.
I also, old romantic that I am, want Thomas to declare himself to Amanda.

A ad "bitty" for my liking.

Lots of back and forth between the here-and-now and details past events being drip-fed to Amanda for no reason than to give her an opportunity to figure it out for herself... It's getting old. It's bad enough in previous books that her grandparents won't give her a straight answer about anything, but now Mike has started grdgingly letting out bits of imfomation a crumb dry little crumb at a time instad of just coming out with it and telling Amanda what's going on.

It's put me right of Mike as a character. I don't think he has Amanda's best interests at heart.. Hes' being sneaky , underhanded, and manipulative. Instead of coming out and telling her the situation, he's manoeuvring her into dangerous situations with no concern for her safety - until he can express (pretend) concern afterwards.

Much as I love this series, and am eager to read the next installment, I hope this book isn't an indicator of how it will continue.
