A Christmas Match: A Regency Romance (Landon House Book 4) Kindle Edition

4.3 out of 5 stars 1,147 ratings

Lady Charity loves the Christmas season. But can she convince the Lord Benedict of the joys of the Christmas season? And perhaps find love along the way?

Lady Charity is a little disappointed. With her older sisters now wed, it is her turn to experience London society but, unfortunately, she must attend during the winter, when it is quiet and a little less exciting. However, determined to do her best, she steps into a wintery London and into society. Guided by Lady Hayward, Charity finds herself rather delighted with society – all save for one particular gentleman who, for whatever reason, has never a kind word to say to anyone. Despite knowing she should step away, Charity finds herself quite intrigued by him, wondering what it might be that troubles him so and soon finds herself quite determined to improve his demeanour. Benedict, the Marquess of Hosmer, has always despised the festive season, ever since his betrothed cried off. Now, for whatever reason, he has met the most frustrating young lady who is more than eager to convince him of the happiness that can be found at Christmas time. The more he pushes her away, the more determined she becomes. Will he ever be able to free himself from her? Or will her gentle sweetness bring him closer to her than ever before? This is the fourth book in the Landon House series, where Lady Hayward and the Duke of Landon form an alliance to assist each other with difficulties of their family life. Get your copy today!

Rose has read her way through countless romances over the years, “borrowing” them from her older sisters, and hiding them from her mother (Mom didn't like the sexy book covers!)

She has a special love for Regency romances and when she began writing, the Regency period was a natural place to start. The ton, the wealthy families, the Season, the dilemmas, and yes, the marriages, have always fascinated her. She loves a happy ever after! Now she is happy to bring this passion to her stories and share it with her readers.

On a personal note, Rose lives in North Carolina, is married, and has a terrier that barks too much. She enjoys taking him for walks to tire him out!

Charity's father informed her that she would be leaving for London in a few days for the winter season. Her older sister was recently married, and there were two younger girls. Her father thought it best for her to go so perhaps she could find a match. Shortly after arriving, she met Lord Hosmer who wasn't happy about it being nearly Christmas. It was this time of year that he was jilted three years prior. He still wasn't over it. He was kind to Charity rescuing her from a despicable man that wanted her for her money. To pay him back for his kindness, she offered to help him with his dark mood. They were getting along very well when the woman that jilted him showed up. She more or less threatened Charity. She was now a widow and was left with little money, thus, she decided to marry Lord Hosmer. Will it work out the way she wants? You will have to find out for yourself. I planned to read a couple of chapters last night and go to bed. Every time I finished a chapter, I started another until I finished the book at 3:30 a.m. I couldn't put it down. There was too much happening, and I had to find out who got Lord Hosmer. A great read!

Lady Charity is in London to experience society, but it is a little less busy than the Season in London. Lady Charity always looks for the good in everything. She meets Lord Benedict and he is the total opposite of Lady Charity. The more Lady Charity tries to get Lord Benedict to embrace the Season, but the more she pushes the more he retreats. Can she turn him around, will they find romance. This is an outstanding regency story. The imagery of Christmas and the characters makes this book a well rounded story. Once I started I could not stop reading. This is a fantastic book as were the three before this.

Lady Charity was surprised when her father summoned her to his study one autumn afternoon. Instead of waiting until the Spring and Summer London season he had decided that Charity would make her debut during the Christmas season, accompanied by the same older woman, as her now married older sisters had been. Everything had apparently already been arranged so it wasn't long before Charity and her chaperone were in London. At one of the first dinner parties Charity was introduced to Lord Hosmer, a very handsome young man who was unfortunately quite unpleasant. Over the course of the season though the two found themselves often brought together by circumstances...would romance follow?

This is a very typical period romance novel and a particularly short one....it could easily read in an evening. There really is never any doubt that Charity and Hosmer will fall in love by the novel's end, triumphing over a few obstacles along the way. There are fewer details of either the action or setting, and very little character development in this story but it definitely G rated so a safe choice for a younger (or older) more sensitive reader. This is part of a longer series so more 'back story' is probably available in earlier or later volumes. Even with it's limitations this is a pleasant way to spend a few hours.

A Christmas Match by Rose Pearson is an entertaing sweet Regency romance set at Christmas time. It is part of a series, Landon House, where the Duke of Landon, enlists the help of Lady Hayward, in helping his daughter's find their perfect match. A Christmas Match is book four of the series. It can be read as a stand alone, as I did, though, there is some mention of characters from previous books.

I enjoy Rose Pearson's peak at Regency England. She has a way with words that makes her settings come alive. In a Christmas Match, I could see the ballrooms decorated for Christmas, filled with guests in their finery! It was a wonderful way to get in the holiday spirit!

A Christmas Match is an easy-to-read, entertaining, short novel; perfect for those times you need a break from daily stresses. You can settle down on the couch in front of warm fire, with a cup of Christmas Spice tea and this novel without guilt over all the tasks you still need to do. Rose has a talent for packing a lot of romance as well as the drama and dilemmas that you find whenever the "ton" get together. She even includes an evil manipulative member of society to offset the hero something to do! Her heroines are not the usual damsel in distress. Like Charity, in A Christmas Match, Rose creates female characters who know their own minds and are strong enough to hold out for a man who treats them well. You won't go wrong if you pick up A Christmas Match for a lovely romp through Regency England this holiday season.

This was a beautiful story, easy to read, easy to follow and the characters felt like real people rather than the 2D tropes often found in Regency romance. The use of period-appropriate language was spot on too. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

A typical regency story, set around a Christmas period. The Marquis has not enjoyed Christmas since his last romance went wrong 3 years ago. Charity comes to London for the small season & decides to set about cheering up the Marquis and you can guess what happens next.
