A Fragile Chain of Daisies: Flowers of the Aristocracy Kindle Edition
Lord Pierce Trenchard knew the truth of the anecdote far too well. For three years he had been kicking himself for being one such idiot. How many times had he wished he had taken his chance while he could, fallen on bended knee, and captured Daisy Caruthers’ heart?
But bothering to sacrifice his freedom and propose had been a step further than he cared to tread. Besides, why did he need to? It was inevitable that Daisy would one day be his. At a time of his choosing. Or, more likely, when he at last confessed the feelings of his lifelong, love sick heart.
However, declaring one’s romantic intensions isn’t as easy as it sounds. Especially when one must also pluck up the courage to tell one’s best friend. Who happens to be your prospective lover’s brother, and a champion pugilist to boot.
So Pierce hadn’t thrown himself on Cupid’s arrow. Instead he waited. And dithered. And assumed. Only to be outwitted by the well-heeled Duke of Portland, who bedazzled Daisy with a title and fortune far exceeding Pierce’s own.
Not that Pierce would ever accuse Daisy of accepting the lure of status and wealth over love. No, Daisy was wild and untameable, vivacious and fun. Rank meant little, and the most brightly polished jewel appeared dull in comparison to her natural sparkle. But it seemed that women worried about being left on the shelf. And Daisy clearly thought she had been left idling there for far too long.
And so, in a whirlwind of wedding plans, Pierce lost her. The biggest regret of his life. But fate can be fickle and has now given him a second chance. Daisy is in mourning. Her husband, the Duke of Portland, is dead! And although it is far too soon to declare his love, this time Pierce isn’t going to linger and let anything, least of all convention, stand in his way.
But before he can willingly leg-shackle himself to the love of his life, fate muddles his way yet again. Accused of the Duke’s murder, Pierce is on the run. With Daisy hiding secrets and indulging in madcap schemes of her own, will he ever be able to prove his innocence, avoid the hangman’s noose, and surrender himself to the parson’s one!

About the author

I was born in Essex England during the mid sixties but I missed all the fun. Being only young I assumed that all Beatles were six legged creatures and Flower Power was something to do with the vigorous way my mother kneaded the bread dough.
My wonderful parents brought me up with a huge love of books. We read anything and everything. Bedtime stories were a treasured time of adventure and mystery. My sister and I sat wide eyed in wonder and to this day I worry about Dinah and Dorinda being pricked with pins because they grew so fat, and I never pull faces at the a waning moon (or was it a waxing one?) just in case my chops stay that way . (The Wind On The Moon)
I began reading romance while still at school. The fuel for many a teenage fantasy leapt from between the covers of wildly romantic books and my passion still lingers now for all those dashing, dark haired heroes.
My own beautiful daughter persuaded me to write my first romance. She enjoyed the resulting tale so much that she shared it with her friends and I eventually published A Perfect Summer as an ebook on amazon.
But I have discovered that this writing bug is not easily stopped. It has turned into a grand passion that I just cannot hold back. Ideas come flooding in the strangest of places. While driving the car, when choosing ripe avocados in the supermarket, even during sweaty sessions at the gym, far too many for just one book and so I began another and then another. Eight years and twenty-five books later I am still nowhere near done. Book 26 is on its way and only just the other night I woke from a wild and wonderful dream with yet another plot fully formed in my head.
I hope you enjoy all of my efforts and I look forward to your comments and reviews.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 9, 2020I always know I'm in for a treat with Jackie Williams. I adore this series and the characters who inhabit it. Each and every one has been so unique yet fit into the world. The setup on this was so sweet, young and innocent and that often leads to mistakes and misunderstandings, which added to the dramatic story as much as the... and ... no spoilers. I loved Daisy and her strength as well as Pierce and his devotion. The assumption that they were meant to be at the onset was really beautiful and had me cheering for them all the way. The setting and period work was lovely. I enjoy the jaunt back in time and imagining the surrounding and standards for relationships. If you are looking for romance you can't go wrong with Jackie Williams. Each part in this series can be read alone. I recommend them all. I recommend all of her books. She is a one-click addiction.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 12, 2020When Daisy’s husband is killed in a horse race, she is faced with the question of whether it was truly an accident or not. When a new man appears in her life, her childhood friend, she is even less sure of her entire situation. Then the blackmail letters arrive.
I liked Daisy. She was a strong female protagonist. No matter what life threw at her, she kept her head up and trudged on. Even when she’s less than certain about the people around her, she manages with a confidence that made me adore her.
I liked a lot of the dialogue too. It showed a deep connection between the characters with them sharing their worries, fears, and occasionally, a jab or two. The ending wrapped the story up quite nicely. Even though this is a romance book, there was still plenty of suspense, mystery, and intrigue to keep even thriller fans like me enthralled.
All around, a fantastic read.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 6, 2020Despite the title, there’s nothing fragile about Daisy, the main female protagonist of the story, who instantly won me over with her spunkiness and wild spirit. Her husband has just lost his life in a horse race but was it indeed a tragic accident or there’s something more sinister behind it? When her childhood friend and the man who she’s been in love with since her teenage years - Pierce - reappears in her life, Daisy isn’t quite sure how she can possibly work her way out of the mess she and her husband created with their recent charade. But it’s when fresh letters from a mysterious blackmailer begin to arrive again that the plot thickens to such an extent that I found it impossible to put the book down.
The writing is splendid; the plot is riveting and full of intrigue; the dialogue - full of passion and good-natured jabs that instantly show the deep connection between the two main characters. I honestly couldn’t get enough of the two of them. And the resolution was absolutely marvelous! I would highly recommend this story to all fans of the genre. Five very well deserved stars!
- Reviewed in the United States on March 27, 2020Another wonderful read by a very talented author!
Ah young love and reunited over twelve years later! These two were never blind to each other. And when they meet up face to face, wow!
Side note: love will always prevail in one of Jackie's romance novels! I have yet to be disappointed reading one of her books! I'm flipping hooked, I tell ya!

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Intrigue steamy read
Reduced 1 stars for the typos, further it's unbelievable that Archbishop would grant special wedding license to a man wanted for murder and when entire constabulary is hunting for him. It was a long wait after the 3rd book in the series, I was looking forward to read Pierce and Daisy story for long time.
The book does have 1-2 mild sex scenes otherwise the focus is on romance and mystery
The book starts with Daisy's husband murdered and her childhood friend Pierce being accused for murder as a result , Pierce had to go in hiding. As children Pierce and Daisy grew up as friends wherein both were in love with each other yet neither of them confessed. After her come out Daisy waited for 3 years, realising Pierce would never propose so she marries a Duke. Pierce who then valued his independence regretted that he never proposed was quite heartbroken
Now after 3 years, with murder accusations, he needs to clear his name. He disguises as a footman at Daisy's home. There are quite many funny scenes, they then team together to find who murdered her husband. No spoilers here

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Historical Mystery Romance - I Loved It
Great character descriptions and beautifully worded text - real fun and conjures up in your imagination every scene, whisper, thought and blush. Had me held from the moment I started, a cleverly woven story and it's great the way characters from previous books in this series come into play. Great denouement and I can't wait for the next one!
Brilliant reading for these interesting lock down days when you need to be uplifted...
