Angry God: A Dark College Romance (All Saints High Series) Kindle Edition
"Mother. Of. All. Angst. This book is not for the faint of heart. It is rip-your-hair-out frustrating and full of depth and emotion." - Lana, DG Romance.
From #1 Amazon Bestseller L.J. Shen comes a new, emotional standalone about first love, second chances, and overcoming breathtaking losses at a young age.
Vaughn Spencer.
They call him an angry god.
To me, he is nothing but a heartless prince.
His parents rule this town, its police, every citizen and boutique on Main Street.
All I own is a nice, juicy grudge against him for that time he almost killed me.
Between hooking up with a different girl every weekend, breaking hearts, noses and rules, Vaughn also finds the time to bully little ole’ me. I fight back, tooth and nail, never expecting him to chase me across the ocean after we graduate high school.
But here he is, living with me in a dark, looming castle on the outskirts of London.
A fellow intern. A prodigal sculptor. A bloody genius.
They say this place is haunted, and it is. Carlisle Castle hides two of our most awful secrets.
Vaughn thinks he can kill the ghosts of his past, but what he doesn’t know? It’s my heart he’s slaying.
Angry God is a stand-alone, DARK High School Romance. It deals with sensitive subjects some may find triggering.

Every once in a blue moon I am blessed by the book gods. This is one of those moments. When I can actually visualize a scene (or scenes) without any effort, and it happens organically and unexpectedly... I'm in reading heaven. This book and the previous one, Broken Knight, both generously delivered! I'm in absolute awe of these 2 books - this entire series as a whole, but most especially Broken Knight and Angry God. I cannot believe I sat on these for as long as I did.
This is what I crave when I'm looking for a series to sweep me away. I read so many books that they all start to blend together. That is not going to happen here. The found-family vibes and these stories will stick with me. Sure, I'll forget the smaller details, but the fundamental goings on will stay firmly rooted in my mind. They'll most definitely be thriving once I get around to doing a reread of the entire series.
I was somewhat scared to start this book. The reason being - I read reviews with a few surface level spoilers. Specifically regarding what happens to Vaughn as a young boy. I didn't want to hear, let alone read, what he had to endure. I didn't think I'd be able to stomach it. I understand how some people might have a sensitivity issue and that should be weighed by each individual reader before attempting to read this story. However, I want to speak to those who might be on the fence like I was... you will likely be okay to proceed. The chapter telling what happened does go into detail, but the descriptions of the 3 incidents are brief and not as explicit as I was expecting based on the spoilerish reviews I read. It wasn't as bad as some made it out to be. And if you are reading these books close enough to each other, you will better understand the actions and reactions of the other characters.
That aside, I want to compliment our fmc (and the author who wrote her). Lenny. She is fabulous! She gives as good as she gets. Backbone for miles and a thoroughly enjoyable character. I love her! She's up there with Sawyer from Ashley Jade's Ruthless Knight. I keep comparing the Royal Hearts Academy series to this one because they both took me on a similar emotional journey in which I was intrinsically enthralled. Lenny was perfection with a capital 'P' - Per-fect-ion! 👌
I genuinely don't know what to do with myself right now. Do I go on to read Damaged Goods? Or do I take a small break to read something else just to give myself a small breather? I'm telling you - the emotions these books evoke are not messing around! They will consume your thoughts as you carry forward to do those pesky tasks of everyday life. While I was reading them, I was cursing adulthood for holding my attention hostage, lol. I couldn't get back to these stories quick enough anytime I had to step away.
I've never thanked an author for writing a book/ a series before. I am now. A massive, "Thank You!", and 👏 Bravo!

- Reviewed in the United States on March 2, 2020Every book LJ Shen writes, I will automatically put on my TBR pile. They will all continuously be on my highly anticipated lists. She writes characters that may be hard to love, but they show a fraction of humanity to the ones that they love and care about the most. She knows how to write this ....holes well ;)
With Angry God I was so excited to read the book and couldn't wait to get more of (Daddy) Vicious. Would Vaughn measure up? Was his dark brooding artist an act or was this the man his dad had created?
Angry God was darker and took us down a road that had me not exactly liking Vaughn. To put it mildly, Vaughn was just a bully. The way he treated all those around him wasn't pleasant. His friends and the girls that worshipped him; no one was safe. He was beyond a bully. How could anyone like a boy like him? But when you see him with his mother and father, something just slightly breaks your heart open for this guy. But then you see how he acted at school. Something wasn't adding up. I couldn't believe that Lenora would harbor any good feelings about this boy. There was an electricity in the air whenever they were in the same room, but what was it? Was it the hate or was there something more between them?
"I don't want to like you, Lenora. I want to ruin you."
Now Lenora was a character that I understood more and actually connected with. I felt her uneasiness with her father and high school. High school is just a crapshoot and she came out of it alive. Barely, but she did it with her strength and attitude. I honestly don't know how she did it. She was a strong character that could stand toe to toe with Vaughn and Arabella and all the other "plastics" when no one else could. She was what held the story together for me. And the Spencers too. They may not have had a huge role, but what scenes they were in were my favorite. They are a fierce couple that love their family and would do anything for them. "Family is destiny."
Man, I have to say I wanted to LOVE Angry God, but I just wasn't there. It was not my favorite of Ms Shen's for a variety of reasons. I felt some of the issues lied in the timeline in the first half the book. It didn't flow seamlessly. There were parts of it that seemed like they had to go back in and add something to make sense. Then there was the problem of some characters that I think didn't need to be around in the storyline as much as they were (hello, Arabella...go away). The plot didn't need some of the added drama. Lenora and Vaughn had plenty to hold a complete book. Now that's not to say I didn't enjoy their story. It just took me longer to get into it and appreciate the characters. The parts at the art school were definitely more intriguing and better developed than the time in Todos Santos.
Overall, it was nice to finally get Vaughn's story and learn what made him so dark and angry. I enjoyed his HEA. I especially liked Lenora's character and the way she interacted with everyone whether they were her friends or not. She was just a character that was better developed than some. Their art was so integral to the story that I wish we got more of it. The characters and plot development were the strong suits in this book. Some of the timing was off, but for me, it was all about the characters. They held the book together. Whether you liked them or not, they definitely played their part and it was nice to see Vaughn find a light at the end of the tunnel. AND the added bonus of seeing Vicious being Vicious? Priceless.
"Before everything, there was you...You came before art. Before life. Definitely before hate."

5.0 out of 5 stars This book gave me all the feels!
I identified myself sooo much with the book, I can’t totally explain it. I am an artistic person, I love art, history and everything old.. so most of the story being settled in a castle, all the description of the characters feelings toward their art, made it sooo much more enjoyable for me. It was like I was inside the book the whole time! (I felt something similar with “Vicious” because of Millie’s artistic side, and that one is my all-time favorite book!)
Talking about Daddy Vicious...ahhhh Vic! My favorite character being in Angry God made the story sooo much more special! In the months awaiting for this book, all I could think of was that we would get a little bit more of the Spencers. Several people are complaining about not seeing much of Baron and Emilia in AG, but I honestly think it was just on point. (Of course Vicious is never too much, I could have 5 more books about him) I think that people are forgetting that this book was about Vaughn and Lenora and not about him with his family. We can’t compare it to Broken Knight for example, where we got many glimpses of Rosie and Dean, because that was somehow part of the background story. That needed to be shown because it was part of who Knight was, it was part of what made the book emotional. That is something else with Angry God. Vaughn’s storyline was not about him and his family, it was about something that happened to him and made him who he is, showing his struggles, but also showing his resilience when he finally accepts love in his life.
But anyway, I loved to see Vicious and Vaughn’s father/son relationship. Their bond, their similarities, their love for Emilia. I can truly imagine them both as real people. The characters of Leigh (especially the Sinners of Saint and All Saints High ones) are so well built, they are sometimes so real with all their flaws and raw feelings, that you have the sensation that you know them your whole life, or that you are part of their family yourself. It’s pure magic!
I loved also that the heroine is not a weak and fragile girl. Lenora is tough, determined, resilient. Even if her Angry God is at some point her weakness, he is also her strength. And it is what it makes this books sooo remarkable.
Real life people and their relationships are not always “beauty” and “perfection”.
People hurt and get hurt, people burn but also get burned. There are always consequences for your choices, and the fact that you can go through some bad stuff but somehow recover and be resolute about what you want in life, makes you so much more ready for living it.
In my opinion, people’s strength shows not that they don’t have a heart. In fact it shows that their heart is so big that they can be humble about it, about their feelings, and then when they find the right person, they can easily share it with her/him.
That is how Lenora and Vaughn are. Two special, unique creatures that were “a match made in hell, but they made sense.” (There isn’t any other sentence that could describe them better!)
I’m literally feeling too much right now, and I simply LOVE when books make me feel. Feel alive, overjoyed, or feel angsty and distressed.
Since I listened to it simultaneously while reading, the change of voice tone of Jacob Morgan (Vaughn’s narrator) for Vicious’ parts were incredible! I have to say, when he started a new chapter with “Come in” I was literally already smiling because I knew it was Vic. And that’s the thing about this book. I had a smile plastered on my face nearly throughout the entire reading. The British accent of both narrators, but specially of Kylie Stewart (Lenora’s voice) was impeccable! Just on point!
This is not an over-the-top dark romance. In fact I would consider it “light” dark. Some stuff happen, there is a lot of bully but in the end, the story is about how sometimes people are not in charge of what happens to them. Life literally happens, it doesn’t matter if you are filthy rich, if you are surrounded by family and friends that love you. Sometimes bad things happen and we get stuck in it. This is about how Lenora and Vaughn find themselves in each other, how they save each other from their own demons. How love can literally change someone’s life decisions, because at the end you need to think about the other person too and not only on yourself.
This book is oh so precious!
So there is no more to say than that I really loved how the story ended. It was perfect and the only problem was that it got to an end.
Angry God gets 5+ ⭐️ from me for the writing and the audiobook.

5.0 out of 5 stars Viciada em All Saints, quero mais...

5.0 out of 5 stars Non il solito romance
Trovo i libri del genere “romance” noiosi e tutti simili l’uno all’altro. Quest’autrice, invece, è una scrittrice. Punto.

Yesterday I finished Angry God, and I gotta say I LOVED IT !
I couldn’t make me read it before because I couldn’t bare that it would be the end of these series... I wasn’t ready to say goodbye to Todos Santos !
Vicious has been my first Romance and now I’m so hooked up 🤣 so it was painful to imagine that it was the last time i would have news from these people!
But what a perfect ending! Vaughn and Lenora will always have a piece of my heart. Vaughn is so perfect. I cried reading the chapter from Emilia POV.
Ok I’m must admit something, I was so scared to be disappointed by this book that before starting it I have read some of the worst goodread’s reviews... just to know what could go wrong... I’m this kind of people... always reading the last chapter of a thriller before starting it 🤣🤣🤣 and I must say that I don’t understand how these people hadn’t been touched by this story and by Vaughn and Lenora...
So thank you LJ Shen because you have wrote the perfect ending to one of my all time favorite serie! The Spencers will always have a part of my heart ! And now I can’t wait to read the hunter !
