A Hate Like This (A Gamble on Love Mom Com Series Book 2) Kindle Edition
Single mother Moira Bishop hates when her family interferes in her love life. If life as a young widow isn’t hard enough, just add three boys, a slew of unruly pets, and ownership of Gamble Alaska’s only diner. The last thing she needs is a man to look after too.
Entertainment lawyer to the stars Ethan Caplan hates his clients. There’s only so much coddling and placating a man can do in a lifetime. He’s finally decided he’s had enough, so he escapes to the tiny no-horse town of Gamble to work on the novel he’s always wanted to write.
Positive that Alaska will be distraction-free, Ethan’s sure he can pen a bestselling legal novel. That is until he lays his eyes on Moira Bishop. Suddenly he finds himself having five meals a day at the diner, just so he can talk to her for a few minutes.
When Moira’s son wins tickets to the Galaxy Studio Theme Park in L.A., Ethan jumps at the chance to play host to the family. He’s sure he can win her over by showing her how glamorous life could be with him. With the help of his friends, he plans the date to end all dates, hoping one incredible night will change her mind about giving love a second chance.
Will Moira open her heart to Ethan? Will Ethan do what it takes to prove that he can be the man Moira and her boys need in their lives? Will little Colton be tall enough to ride the Galactic Mindbender?
Find out in the deliciously fun second installment in the Gamble on Love Momcom series.

About the authors
USA Today Bestselling author Whitney Dineen is a rock star in her own head. While delusional about her singing abilities, there’s been a plethora of validation that she’s a fairly decent author (AMAZING!!!). After winning many writing awards and selling nearly a kabillion books (math may not be her forte, either), she’s decided to let the voices in her head say whatever they want (sorry, Mom). She also won a fourth-place ribbon in a fifth-grade swim meet in backstroke. So, there’s that.
Whitney loves to play with her kids (a.k.a. dazzle them with her amazing flossing abilities), bake stuff, eat stuff, and write books for people who "get" her. She thinks french fries are the perfect food and Mrs. Roper is her spirit animal.

- Reviewed in the United States on September 25, 2022The title of this book doesn't at all fit this story! There is no hate here!!
Ethan and Moira are adorable characters and I enjoyed their relationship. She certainly had some difficult events in her past, and my heart felt for her. Ethan is easy to enjoy and I loved how he effortlessly moved to support her children.
There were a few things that bugged me about these two, but overall, they have a good connection. While this book doesn't really have steamy scenes, the read left me entertained and happy. I recommend this read, and I look forward to the next one. 😀
- Reviewed in the United States on August 7, 2023This is the 3rd book I’ve read by these authors. I did enjoy this book overall. Good characters, interesting, good flow to story, fun and well written. However, I really wasn’t a fan of Ethan towards the end. I felt he behaved very immaturely once things didn’t go his way. Moira got a bit nasty, to be fair, but I think her behavior is completely understandable considering her background, her children, and the fact that Ethan was underplaying his feelings very vocally. It was ridiculous what he was suggesting without more lead in and discussion. Then he never made the smallest effort to discuss his feelings with Moira or understand her side. That she was the only one to have to fully apologize and risk her emotions at the end is unfair and ridiculous. Still enjoyed it overall but the ending took away a bit.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 24, 2025Such a good book by these authors yet again. Moira has had a hard life, but she and her three boys are hanging in there and making the best of it. Enter Ethan, Harper's best friend and very successful LA lawyer, who shows Moira and her boys what they're missing. I love the boys' antics and the family and friends dynamics in Alaska. Ethan's LA home, his parents, and all he has to offer is so fun and different from what Moira is used to. I love the brutal honesty friends and family offer these stubborn could-be, should-be lovers. Absolutely great ending!
- Reviewed in the United States on September 9, 2022You know it's going to be a fun read when a character states that behaving like a native from Gamble means letting your leg hair grow out! A Hate Like This is about clashes. A clash of cultures, a clash of economic disparity and a clash of the elite versus the everyday. She's a single mother living in a remote Alaskan town with three rambunctious boys in a house that is a money pit. She's barely making ends meet despite being a successful business owner. She's so overwhelmed that even the thought of dating is too much. He's a successful Tinsel Town entertainment lawyer who's burned out from having to bail out and babysit entitled A-listers and entertainers. He has enough money to take a six month sabbatical and try his hand at writing a novel. Having been burned badly in the romance department he's definitely not looking for love. Despite all of their "so called" objections Ethan Caplan and Moira Bishop can't deny their attraction and developing feelings for one another. He's determined to ease her burdens but his plans backfire. She knows absolutely that she does not belong nor will she ever fit into his world. The problem is they are miserable without one another. Friends and family finally break through the stalemate with keen observations and sage advice but ultimately it's Ethan and Moira who must find their common ground.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 11, 2024The indecisive couple was frustrating. Then after getting together they became frightened at different times and then followed by stubbornness. Finally, they were immature. Overall, it seemed manufactured.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 28, 2023I am in love with the whole series that takes place in Gamble, Alaska. Moira’s story is so poignant and Ethan turns out to be just the persistent, nurturing and caring man she deserves after the life she has led.
A HATE LIKE THIS has well-deserved angst. Who doesn’t get the trust issues of a single mom of three you boys, widowed by a not so great husband and working all hours in a diner to raise her boys. You will love the kids and adore Ethan coming into their lives. I hope there is more for us to find in Gamble.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 15, 2022I am a huge fan of this author and have greatly enjoyed most other books. This one left me w mixed feelings. It was well written, thoughtful, gritty and maybe a little too true life. The main character was hard to like bc she was so hardened but it was also understandable. I read to escape and feel joy and passion and overall just didn't get that but maybe this one was supposed to be more realistic then with a happy ending despite it all.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 10, 2024Second book in the series. Read the first one…and loved it. Just finished reading the second one and ABSOLUTELY loved it!! Now I can’t wait to read the third 😉👍🏼.

1.0 out of 5 stars Burned once you can't be too careful or can you?
We met Moria and Ethan in the first book, No Ordinary Hate, but this book is their story. Like the first book of this series the two main characters can't see past their own fears and feelings to see see the ones in the other. The book takes you on an enjoyable journey as they try to overcome the fears.
