4.4 out of 5 stars 583 ratings

Lady Selina is shy. But when she overhears a heinous plan, she must act quickly to save the reputation of a friend from a criminal. Might she find love in this adventure?

Lady Selina has always lived in the shadow of her twin sister, Lady Anna. Being rather quiet and shy, she is hopeful of making a quick match to a gentleman of similar character to her own. Quite by chance one night, Selina overhears a terrible plan. Uncertain as to what she should do or say, Lady Selina retreats all the more – until circumstances force her to act.

Having expected to enjoy all that society had to offer, Charles, the Earl of Barrington, is horrified to discover his sister in the most improper circumstance. When the gentleman in question demands funds in order to remain silent about what has occurred, Charles feels as though he has no choice. Refusing to accept that his sister was entirely innocent as she claims, he is astonished when a young lady approaches him to tell him of what she overheard. Both relieved and horrified, Charles must consider things carefully, grateful for Lady Selina’s help. As they continue to work together, Charles finds himself beginning to grow all the closer to the lady – but can he protect her from the same men that blackmailed his sister?

Review

I love a Regency and I lovedthese characters. I thought the story flowed well and was well written.

Amazingly realistic. A verygood book. I do recommend.

This is a very clean storyand any age could read and enjoy it. The books can be read as stand alonebut are better read in order.

As with all of Ms. Pearson'swork, the characters have real depth, and are well developed. The plot isengaging with intrigue, suspense, love, romance and the dialog is great.Recommend highly, so don't miss this book along with the previous two in theLandon House" series featuring the Duke's three daughters. They will notdisappoint you.

An excellent true love storythat the reader can't put down.

This book has wonderfulcharacters who experience personal and emotional growth, and throughdetermination, find courage and confidence. There is an inherent sweetness inSelina that is so endearing, making it a joy to watch her blossom and gainCharles's affection. This is such a lovely story!

Good story, I really likedit.

Another wonderful story fromRose Pearson!

As always, Ms. Pearsonwrites a wonderful romance with intrigue and suspense.

The story line caught myattention at the very beginning and kept me interested throughout the entirebook.

Rose has read her way through countless romances over the years, “borrowing” them from her older sisters, and hiding them from her mother (Mom didn't like the sexy book covers!)

She has a special love for Regency romances and when she began writing, the Regency period was a natural place to start. The ton, the wealthy families, the Season, the dilemmas, and yes, the marriages, have always fascinated her. She loves a happy ever after! Now she is happy to bring this passion to her stories and share it with her readers.

On a personal note, Rose lives in North Carolina, is married, and has a terrier that barks too much. She enjoys taking him for walks to tire him out!

This was such an enjoyable read with character's written with such depth you felt you knew their soul. I liked how we see the h grow in confidence. I like my h's strong and confident, but I never felt the h was weak. She just didn't know how to stand by herself because she was use to her twin sister leading the way.

The h's chaperone, Lady Hayward (great character) helped her see she wasn't her sister and needed to form her own path.

The H has a lot on his plate. His sister doesn't conform to the rules he sets nor the Tons until something happens. What was a wonderful surprise is their mother backed the H after she realized her daughter lied - refreshing!

We have two awful villains who blackmail the H. We are privy to some of the plans the H/h set up but not all. When it all starts to take place, you aren't sure if it is all going as planned, great suspense and intrigue.

This is a stand alone story. I enjoyed the writing style of this author and pre-ordered her story A CHRISTMAS MATCH.

No cheating, no cliffhanger, HEA, romance builds slowly and only a sweet kiss or two - clean. (ljb)

I enjoyed every minute of this lovely Regency romance with well-developed characters and a story that kept me entertained and engaged from beginning to end. I loved the attraction and undeniable chemistry between Lady Selina, shy daughter of the Duke of Landon and Charles, Earl of Barrington. This is the third book in the Landon House series that centers around Lady Haywood and the Duke of Landon who form an alliance to assist each other with difficulties in their family life. I look forward to more from gifted author Rose Pearson. I received an advance reader copy of this book from Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving my review.

This book kept my interest although I did skim a bit. I wanted to see how this tangle got straightened out. Amelia's (the victim) character could have been much better developed -- this would have helped the reader understand why she kept escaping to dark alcoves with various questionable men. If she had been developed as more of an ingenue, susceptible to sweet talk, it would have help a lot. As it was, she is suddenly the pivotal victim in a blackmail scheme .... which seemed pretty far-fetched. And then the leading male characters decide to entrap the blackmailers with a gamble entered in White's betting book. Errrrr. I really didn't like Charles using Selina as a pawn, even though she was chipper and valiant about it. Hopefully Pearson's other books are better

Lady Selina is enjoying her second season, this time without her twin sister. Lady Selina meets Lady Amelia and is snubbed by the lady. Then Lady Selina hears of a plane to harm the lady’s reputation. Will she be too late to warn someone?

This is a beautifully crafted story in a great series. The plot has you gripped right from the start to the finish. The characters are portrayed beautifully, and have the strength and determination to solve their problems, and achieve their goals. This is a great book that will be suitable for all those who love clean historical romances, that have a bit of suspense.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not my style,

It's rather snooty in its tone. The h actually so and so viscount is not good enough and theH turns out to be ideally matched because of his "station " and "fortune" etc.... The plot is rather strange too - the H ends up paying money to a man after having witnessed him force himself on his sister ( this would usually lead to a duel) and the plot to get back to the villians was also rather stretched. Something rather stiff and contrived about it all. Not fun reading either.

A short read and a story that needed better editing. There was one sentence that didn't make any sense. The formality throughout the whole story became annoying, even family members within their own confines continued with formality, there was no normal family familiarity. It was annoying.
    I did enjoy the story.

There was nothing that I liked I loved it all,the twists and turns of the plotters thinking to shame another lady for money but lady Selina and Lord Barrington were too intelligent to let them get away with hurting others.
