A Moment Too Late: A Small Town Second Chance Romance Kindle Edition

4.1 4.1 out of 5 stars 97 ratings

Falling in love can happen in the blink of an eye.
I fell for Jay the moment I laid eyes on him. Was drawn to him in a way I’d never been drawn to a man before.
He was everything I wanted. The man I dreamed about at night and looked for everywhere I turned just for a glimpse of his perfection.
But I couldn’t have him. It was against the rules.
Forbidden.
He was my best friend’s boyfriend. I would never do that to her.
Then she died.
Looking at him became painful, bringing back memories of the reason we couldn’t be together. The reason I never pursued him.
I had to move on and vowed never to look back in an attempt to escape him and the devastation in my heart.
Yet here I stand, five years later, staring into the eyes of the man I still want. In the place I swore I’d never return to. With memories assaulting me from every angle.
He’s still the picture of perfection in my eyes, making our attraction even more dangerous than it once was.
The only difference... No one is standing in our way this time.

I can’t believe that after 5 years they have no closure in Sam’s death. Sam’s death had such devastating affect on all of them so to honor her they have a dedicated in their same town where everyone of this group come to celebrate her life. As they each take an event to honor their friend, Sam, they find peace with each other and letting go of their friend. A good read.

Being new to Ms.Brownell's work I've been looking forward to picking up one of her books! When I found out about this one I wanted to pick it up first. I enjoyed it!

Drea and Jay's journey is a realistic and tough one. It had a great amount of emotion throughout and I liked the fact that I felt so much with both of them as well as with the rest of the characters in this story. It kept me on my toes and I enjoyed that. I just struggled at certain points.

With A Moment Too Late, Ms.Brownell created a good read that'll be sure to make you feel a lot! I'm looking forward to picking up more of her books!

    1.5/5

TLDR; a potential skip and DNF read. For further explanation see review below.

    Spoiler:

The entire book was set up to essentially forgive Jay and Andrea’s indiscretion towards Sam. My theory was further solidified after the cop out and convenient “last letter from grave” from Sam dissolving Andrea from the so called “guilt” she’s had for betraying Sam. Guilt that she didn’t seem to feel strongly enough to not engage in a physical relationship with her best friend’s former boyfriend during the week celebrating her best friend’s life. Regardless of the state of Sam and Jay’s relationship, at the end of the day Andrea and Jay still chose to cheat. Even prior to the last letter knowledge, she still decided to engage in an intimate and emotional affair despite her “better” judgment and weak protests.

The book was told as if in a mindset of a high school girl. Frankly I was more intrigued with the mystery of Sam’s death rather than the romance between Jay and Andrea. The entire thing just left a bad taste due to the fact that it encourages infidelity and practically absolves bad behavior without so much as inkling of proper redemption. It’s bad character development and made for an absolutely boring read and intolerable read.

    A Moment Too Late
    By: Rachael Brownell
    Narrated by: Leanne Woodward

I enjoyed this book immensely, it is well written with interesting storylines that are captivating from start to end. This story is original and so much more than an ordinary romance. The characters are realistic, easy to relate to and connect with. A grief stricken and heartbroken Andrea Morris left Great Falls and all her friends behind as soon as she was finished with college. She could not handle the tragic loss of her friend, Sam, and all the guilt she felt, she blamed herself for her death plus she feels guilt for having feelings for Jay Morris, Sam’s boyfriend. Those feelings were an instant attraction from when she first met Jay, but after learning who he was she knew then that their attraction and the chemistry between them would never lead to anything. She has not been back to Great Falls in five years, her friend Spencer convinces her to come, seeing her friends again was like coming home for her. She missed Spencer and Mia and Sam’s Mom Summer, she did not want to see Jay but he was there too. When she found out that the Chief of Police was looking to close Sam’s case she decided to take a look at everything the investigation uncovered, she is a criminal profiler and will work a profile to present to PD so they can give it another look. She winds up working with Jay, they also find out where each other is in life and what their feelings were. This is an engaging story, the book is cleverly plotted and there is never a dull moment. The author takes you on an emotional rollercoaster ride and a journey of forgiveness, self healing, learning to let go of the ugly monster called guilt and to start to live again. I thought the ending was so fitting, a nice surprise from Sam. Rachael  Brownell, thank you for the great story.

🎧📚🎧 And for the wonderful narration, Leanne Woodward is a talented narrator and versatile voice artist. She brings these characters to life, giving each their own distinct sound making it easy to follow along and tell who is who. She does an awesome job portraying the characters, taking each role and making it her own sounding believable and just as I picture the character to sound. She sets the perfect tone for the story, captures all the characters emotions and projects them into her performance. She is an entertaining storyteller and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for another awesome listen🎧
