A Necessary End: Iconoclast Trilogy: Book Three (Fortune's Fools 9) Kindle Edition

5.0 out of 5 stars 3 ratings

"When it comes to the crunch point, all you can count on are your own wits, and the only person you can trust completely is yourself."

With the last strands of his grand plan meshing together, Durban Chola is beset by doubts about his own motives and identity. The consequences of his past actions make it difficult to persuade old allies to support him or to find new ones. His enemies have their plans well advanced. Then there is the price of his ultimate success to consider - a price that will be paid by all of humanity for good or ill.

A Necessary End is the final volume in Fortune's Fools. The last book of the last trilogy, Iconoclast.

In the words that Robert Heinlein put so evocatively into the mouth of Lazarus Long: 'Writing is not necessarily something to be ashamed of, but do it in private and wash your hands afterwards.' Having tried a number of different careers, before settling in the North-East of England with family, three dogs, cats and a small flock of rescued chickens, I now spend a lot of time in private and have very clean hands.

The richness of the worlds and the matchless, epic, enveloping saga of so many intertwined lives and cultures has come to a startling, bittersweet coda.

Perhaps at some juncture Durban Chola will again speak to his author and we will be again graced with his aura.

I simply have no ample words.

A stunning conclusion to an epic sci-fi adventure. I had been looking forward to the Fortune’s Fool’s finale and it was fantastic. Durban has a fine time juggling a young, disturbed teen along with a new prisoner who would kill him if given a chance. Add in the bigwigs of Central and the Legacy both hunting for him and the stakes couldn’t be higher. But Durban Chola manages everything with is usual charm, grace, and brilliant smile.
I recommend reading the entire nine volume set, the world building is rich in details and the prose is quite descriptive. The characters are all well-rounded, each one dealing with past and present obstacles. Filled with futuristic action, plenty of political intrigue and many twists and turns. Highly Recommended!
