- Reviewed in the United States on July 24, 2019This series is everything. Yes there is more drama, yes we get a little unrequited love and yes the cliffhanger in the end is killing me. This book starts off a little after the last one. Remi faces so many challenges in this one including the untimely and wierdly mysterious arrival of her brother. Yes, the culled one..or maybe not culled...so much has happened in this story. A new alliance and a rival that turns the entire school against each other. There's also a bit of betrayal mixed with a ton of I didn't quite expect that. This book is life, definitely worth the read.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 20, 2019I received this book as an ARC, and I had also pre ordered it, so I must have really wanted to read it!
When I got this yesterday, I couldn't remember which series this was, so I went to the first book and read the beginning for a refresher. I read so many books that I tend to get them confused. Anyways, I ended up reading the whole book again- so good. Then I read Tooth & Claw Society immediately after.
The Great: Story is still strong and I like the characters. You get further into the meat of the mystery and some romantic developments come about. Some get their comeuppance, and some are still at large, so to say. Lots of action and general upheaval. Writing is strong and most of the characters' actions are believable.
The Good: We get a teeny bit more into the main character's backgrounds, although I still feel like the nerds are very two-dimensional. I like the slow relationship building with a previous nemesis, and I like that some people are actually good.
Needs Improvement: The books are short- I know this is a new thing where the author writes what they can handle so the next books come out faster. But I miss character development and depth and growth. I would wait longer and pay for the books (not just KU) if there were more oomph! to them. The main characters are so immature. At this stage in life, there should be more personal growth. I am hopeful that this is something that changes as the series keeps coming.
Overall, I feel positive and happy that these books are here and am looking forward to August for the next one!

- Reviewed in the United States on November 30, 2021Crazy twists and turns in this different approach to shifters then I’ve read before. Very creative characters . A little love story .
- Reviewed in the United States on August 28, 2022I like reading books where I can relate to how the main character thinks and admire their growth as a person and strength of character. I don't have that connection with Remi, she's an odd duck in how she reacts to situations and I can't appreciate her. Remi has had a rough life in the foster system, that typically either wrecks ppl or makes them truly independent and self reliant. She is looking for her brother who was separated in the system, they got sent to different homes. Her very first day on her own, Im not sure if she's of age and legally independent (forgot what that's called) or not, but her very first day at college she wanders off following her nose. Ends up shifting in a nearby forest, she doesn't know she's a wolf when she's a wolf thus far. The shifters are stalking her waiting for their opportunity to abduct her. She doesn't find this odd. She thinks she's dreaming for weeks before she accepts reality, I think that is how its justified that she just goes along for the ride. So she's abducted and wakes up with shifters on her way to a FREE shifter academy. Nothing in life is free, which she should know by now and doesn't question. She wants to be back at her other school for the longest time, she doesn't fight them bc they tell her they can help her find her brother. She's now trapped and these shifters are basically forcing her into a shifter society and whatever else that entails, possible servitude or worse. She's met some friends finally. She's immediately targeted by a psycho shifter creature and bad things happen, not terrible but bad. So unfortunately the main hottie happens to be this same type of shifter that targeted her and so in her mind, even though he's told her what he is and that its not possible for him to manipulate her bc he told her what he was and ya know he's not that type of person, she stamps him as untrustworthy. So she has THE worst judgement of character and self preservation skills, Im not sure how she's survived thus far. She also has aggressive tendencies and just hits people, like her supposed friends, she lashes out and is mean. Just not very likable. She's all over the place. The next minute she's super nice. So Ive gotten part way into book 2 and Im unable to continue with this main character. I tried lol.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 18, 2020Remi didn't believe in magic nor magical beings until she learned she was one, a werewolf. So she is attending the Academy of Shifters to learn more about what she can do and how to do it...and, to locate her missing twin brother. She has become "involved" with Laith, who is a lion shifter. How can this work out??? Of course there are dark things happening throughout the story of the Academy, i.e. Remi's relationships with other student (nerd clans) and the directors of the school (bear and wolves). Although I received the first book as an advanced reader copy, I have bought the entire series seeing potential in the story line. Time will tell if it picks up.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 7, 2021I highly recommend this intriguing book, and the series in which it is, to readers who love thrills and chills, shifters, and mystery. I can't wait to see what will happen next. Enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Well crafted and thoroughly entertaining sequel
Remi is still reeling from her first semester at Gladwell Academy. Not only had she and Laith discovered a list of students to be ‘culled’ on a dean’s desk with Victoria’s name among them, she also found out that the Gladwell’s had lied to her about the whereabouts of her missing twin, Rahm who had in fact been admitted at Gladwell Academy a year earlier and been culled for bad behaviour.
For the past five nights, Remi’s sleep has been interrupted by visits from the spectre of Rahm, urging her to follow him. But is he real or a figment of her imagination?
With Ms. Shirley’s health deteriorating, the Gladwell’s are searching for a replacement for the gift of scent-sight in order to locate new shifters. Having been warned by Ms. Shirley to keep her gift a secret and the Gladwell’s already suspecting her of having the gift, Remi is finding it difficult to maintain an act.
Tragedy strikes - or was it murder? - when Remi attempts to find answers over her twin’s disappearance. Will a message left for Remi at the time of their death provide answers?
Meanwhile the arrival of three new bear shifters stirs up animosity between the wolves and bear which threatens the fragile peace between both species. Is something more sinister at play? Just what secret is Rahm trying to reveal to his long sister and most importantly, can he be trusted?
Tooth and Claw Society is the second explosive instalment of the Academy of Shifters series. Once more the author has concocted an enjoyable suspenseful plot powered by adept character development and relentless pacing. There were so many jaw dropping and surprising twists of events that it’s become apparent that nothing and no one at Gladwell Academy is what they seem.
I was impressed with the author’s world building in which she has introduced four gifts/curses in the shifter world; That of Manips, Beserkers, Kinetics and Scent-Seers. While Manips have the ability to get inside someone’s mind without them ever knowing, Beserkers can selectively share their emotions and influence others.
The character development was exceptional. Remi and Laith’s relationship grows leaps and bounds and I loved her banter with Winter Davenport who has oddly taken it upon herself to look out for her. Ms Shirley’s backstory was heartbreaking as was an incident from Dean Belhollow’s past. I was shocked by the new development in Dean Mardone’s arc as I didn’t anticipate it at all. With so many doubts cast on the good guys, it’s hard to know who to really trust at all and I wonder whether Belhollow is on the level too what with the bear shifters suddenly acting rebellious.
As with the first book, it’s the author’s infectious sense of humour that continues to charm and thoroughly entertain.
All in all this was a well crafted, thoroughly entertaining instalment with another cliffhanger that has ensured that this reader will be diving into the follow up book.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good shifter academy book, in need of editing
This is a good all-round academy book, perfect for those who enjoy paranormal romance, mysteries, thrillers & academy books. We build upon our knowledge from the past books, and get a more in-depth look at shifter history and society. The characters flesh out more in this book, which is good. I like that no one is “evil” - it’s morally ambiguous.
However, as with the other books, there were a few editing errors, including with formatting and typos. I also felt the pacing of this book was off.
I might give the rest of the books a go, as I find the storyline to be promising.
