I am going to die here. My name is Mindy Mason; I’m a student from the University. I volunteered for one experiment; it was to be for one day only. I want to go home now. I know Wendy has a knife, and she will kill again. How can I stop her?

'A Perfect Memory' is a psychological horror short story that twists reality, layering distortion upon disorientation, and making the reader question their perceptions just as the characters do.

The setting really is the star of this story: Chandler House reminded me of pictures of abandoned hospitals and institutions, with grunge and tarnish on the surfaces, and coldness beneath them. The contrast between the intimidation exerted by certain characters and the vulnerability of others was powerful, emphasising the imbalance between them heightening the impact of the sense of unease that grows within the reader until it evolves into discomfort that is almost unbearable.

'A Perfect Memory' certainly provides a confronting reading experience that has a profound effect on the reader and delivers exactly what those who enjoy reading psychological thrillers and horror will be looking for.

    A Perfect Memory
    A Short Horror Story
    : Dona Fox

    A short horror listen.

This is the first Dona Fox story I've listened to. It is a short horror story. Mindy Mason is a student from the University, she volunteered for one experiment. What she finds is she's trapped in a waking nightmare. Who are sane, who are not? The listener will be dragged kicking and screaming into this story.

The narration was well done. The characters were well portrayed. Susan Marlowe scared my half to death.

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

This is a very special piece. Please, allow me to start by saying that Dona Fox doesn't write the average kind of horror you are used to. No, she digs deeper (sharper?) than that.
She is a psychological twirler of your sanity. You won't see lots of blood and guts in her titles, but don't you have enough of that so far? Her writing is... delicate, broken to pieces... insane. Beautifully insane.
I don't hide I'm a fervent fan of hers, because when I read her, I feel she is holding my hand in a journey of human psyche's madness, that will make my standards and beliefs tremble and after all... burn them down to ashes.
When you read her lines, you can observe the intricate complexity of her mind. The darkness within a sweet soul that only tries to escape.
She is... amazing. The more I read her, the more wonderful she is in my —eyes? No. My soul.
What is this latest release like? A perfect memory... You'll never guess by the blurb, or even the title. Half an hour of your life turned into a psychiatric rollercoaster where nothing is what you think. Nothing.
Without giving you blood-beating flesh, she freezes your spine through the terrifying thought of... "I don't know... I don't know who I am. Am I you? No, you are —you. Then, who am I?"
Dona is one author of a kind. I'd risk saying she doesn't only step in horror. The "thriller" world would be happy to embrace her. Because, the human mind, this explosion of psychopathic shrapnel into the others' conscience, can cut you down in many ways... a "state of mind..."
That is what Dona Fox pours down your spinal bones. A fragile, distorted, —somehow beautiful? State of mind...

    A Perfect Memory
    A Short Horror Story

    By: Dona Fox
    Narrated by: Susan Marlowe

You better watch what you are volunteering for. This is one bizarre psychological thriller, it is well written and well told and grabs your attention right from the start. Just when you think you have a clue you soon learn that you don’t. Dana Fox masterfully takes you into what seems like a mad house and a mad person’s mind, she takes you for a ride, a terrifyingly haunted ride. And then gives an ending that will blow your mind. This is an amazing short story, moves you to the edge of your seat and has your heart racing. Well done Dana Fox, very well done! Thank you for this great read.

I listened to the Audible edition, Susan Marlowe does a wonderful job narrating the story, setting the perfect tone. She performs the voices for all the characters, brings them to life from the pages to your ears.

So I love psychological works and horror works. Never having read a Dona Fox piece before, I wasn’t sure what to expect but when I realized this piece has both psychological twists AND horror, I was hooked!

What starts out as a seemingly normal day for Mindy turns into a twisted nightmare full of experiments, murderous doctors, and a government conspiracy. Just when you think you know what’s going to happen next, you’re given a brand new twist. After this, I’m definitely going to check out more by this author.

Oh, and also, the audiobook had excellent narration, and it added to the chilling nature of the story.
