A Promise of Pure Gardenias: Flowers of the Aristocracy (Untamed Regency Book 2) Kindle Edition
He had been about to go down on his knees, beg her to make him the happiest of men, when Sophia Barclay had suddenly spoken, her lilting tones ringing loud and clear. ‘I won’t marry Brendon Spencer! I absolutely refuse!’ Saved him a world of indignity, he supposed, but the rejection still cut deep. Even taking a mistress hadn’t lessened the pain. Especially when that mistress might have spilled his secret. A secret that he would rather cut off his nose than reveal.
Drat the man! How dare he barge back into her life and make assumptions. Brendon Spencer had abandoned her, and had taken a mistress for a whole year! What gave him the right to become so affronted? Sophia would go to breakfast with whomsoever she liked, regardless of propriety! Why should she care what he thought? No one had worried about her while she was alone, certainly not that pompous arse!
But her heart throbbed at the sight of him and her insides fluttered alarmingly, even while the humiliation of unrequited love burned deep. How could she still want him when he clearly thought nothing of her?
With his father in imminent danger and responsibility threatening fast, can Brendon face his fears and contain his legendary temper long enough to win the woman he most desires?
A Promise of Pure Gardenias (Book 2 in the Untamed Regency series) is a standalone story suitable for ages 16 and upwards due to sensual love scenes and adult language. The series is best read in order to appreciate returning characters and places.

About the author

I was born in Essex England during the mid sixties but I missed all the fun. Being only young I assumed that all Beatles were six legged creatures and Flower Power was something to do with the vigorous way my mother kneaded the bread dough.
My wonderful parents brought me up with a huge love of books. We read anything and everything. Bedtime stories were a treasured time of adventure and mystery. My sister and I sat wide eyed in wonder and to this day I worry about Dinah and Dorinda being pricked with pins because they grew so fat, and I never pull faces at the a waning moon (or was it a waxing one?) just in case my chops stay that way . (The Wind On The Moon)
I began reading romance while still at school. The fuel for many a teenage fantasy leapt from between the covers of wildly romantic books and my passion still lingers now for all those dashing, dark haired heroes.
My own beautiful daughter persuaded me to write my first romance. She enjoyed the resulting tale so much that she shared it with her friends and I eventually published A Perfect Summer as an ebook on amazon.
But I have discovered that this writing bug is not easily stopped. It has turned into a grand passion that I just cannot hold back. Ideas come flooding in the strangest of places. While driving the car, when choosing ripe avocados in the supermarket, even during sweaty sessions at the gym, far too many for just one book and so I began another and then another. Eight years and twenty-five books later I am still nowhere near done. Book 26 is on its way and only just the other night I woke from a wild and wonderful dream with yet another plot fully formed in my head.
I hope you enjoy all of my efforts and I look forward to your comments and reviews.

- Reviewed in the United States on November 1, 2018After reading book one, I was looking forward to seeing Brendon get his own taste of how frustrating things were for his sister and best friend. It may not sound like it, but I love Brendon. Brendon and Sophia have been in love since they were children. However, love and life are never a straight line and before they can get together misunderstandings and meddling people jump in-between them. They had great chemistry with each other that kept me turning pages and wanting to shake them and yell… just tell him/her how you feel. It’s it funny how fear can get in the way of happiness so often. I love the characters and setting and the quirky underlying humor that was in both parts. While you don’t need to read book one to enjoy this one, it does add to your bond with the players and I recommend you do. I see there is another part, which I am excited to get started. If you are looking for a fun regency this is a wonderful series that I highly recommend.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 16, 2018I have to use a warning on this one as we start out with a rape scene in the first chapter. This is an adult read.
A scaring memory from childhood haunts Brendon, to the point he may never be with a woman. Along comes Sophia and everything changes. After an accident happens things become even more complicated.
An enjoyable romance!
- Reviewed in the United States on May 22, 2019This is the second book in the series. Wow! Brenden has a little secret of his own in this one. And it looks as if his parents are keeping one as well. Is our Sophia hiding a little something of her won too?
These two characters are amazing together. I thought I liked Algernon in the first book. Nope, I have to say Brendon just stepped into first place!
Side note: Jackie Williams really knows how to bring out the best of her imagination through her writing! I'm really enjoying this series and I cannot wait to dig into book three about Pierce and Angelique.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 4, 2017Brendon Spencer is in a pickle, he is damned if does and damned if doesn't when it comes to the one woman who holds the key to his heart. Filled with the usual British aristocracies’ foibles and idiosyncrasies, this story is about Brendon and Sophia Barclay and the dance they perform around each other throughout the story. That is, until Brendon had to apply the oil of Gardenias to Sophia's gorgeous body, will he succumb, will she? No, no, no, you’ll have to pick up your copy to find out.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 20, 2018I loved reading a Promise of Pure Gardenias; this book is a fun pleasure to read through with equal feistiness in the men and women. Great parings and fun reveals. You won't regret reading this playful take on classic stories!
- Reviewed in the United States on September 2, 2017A sweet romance. Years and years of misunderstandings and angst finally get resolved with a HEA thanks to the behind the scenes manipulations of others..
- Reviewed in the United States on October 26, 2017“A Promise of Pure Gardenias” by Jackie Williams is a wonderful historical romance. Being a fan of her military romances I was reluctant to venture into this series, but I’m pleased I did.
Brendon Spencer is introduced to us as a young lad in 1799, experiencing a rude awakening from innocent childhood play. Some six years later his reputation is stained and his heart is captured.
What follows is the complicated courtship between Brendon and Sophia, full of chemistry but also misperceptions. Two strong characters whose interplay easily fills a book or two.
Set in the romance-inspiring Regency period, with eloquent and masterfully floral use of language, wit and humour, this is a very enjoyable and compelling read that should please fans of the genre and those willing to venture into it.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 22, 2017This is in the spirit of Jane Austin and other greats and gives just as much reader satisfaction. I loved this gentle Regency romance with all the accompanying mystery and misunderstandings. Most of all I love the way the emotions come through very clearly in all the characters, even the lesser ones. I need more books by this author and will be looking out for them.
