About the author

K.L. “Kat” Hiers is an embalmer, restorative artist, and queer writer. Licensed in both funeral directing and funeral service, they worked in the death industry for nearly a decade. Their first love was always telling stories, and they have been writing for over twenty years, penning their very first book at just eight years old. Publishers generally do not accept manuscripts in Hello Kitty notebooks, however, but they never gave up.
Following the success of their first novel, Cold Hard Cash, they now enjoy writing professionally, focusing on spinning tales of sultry passion, exotic worlds, and emotional journeys. They love attending horror movie conventions and indulging in cosplay of their favorite characters. They live in Zebulon, NC, with their family, including their children, some of whom have paws and a few that only pretend to because they think it’s cute.

- Reviewed in the United States on November 21, 2021Plot: Alistair’s book is finally here, though it’s all Noah’s POV, but Alistair’s book is here! As for the reason why Alistair and Noah crosses paths…you can feel the appreciation the author has for the b/w mystery film noir genre…
Feels: Noah’s so cheek-pinching cute when he finally lets go of his ‘spoiled brattiness’
Drama: Noah’s brattiness
Heat: 5/5 - Whew! Alistair is one hot Daddy Dom
Characters: Mickey and Roger make a scorching hot cameo
Pacing: Medium to fast, continuous flow
Length: At 500+ pages, a much longer read, but with such a smooth flow and no fillers, you don’t even notice that you spent 8 hours reading straight without a break lol (a bit of advice: don’t start this and expect to be able to put it down)
Ending: HEA - but made me want to start a re-read of the series all over again!
- Reviewed in the United States on January 3, 2022I’m pretty sure my mouth was hanging on the floor during many scenes in this book and I enjoyed every seconds of it.
Noah’s uncle has done something bad and Alistair wants to kidnap Noah as a vengance. Noah is a brat and doesn’t comply so Alistair starts spanking him so he complies. Alistair keeps punishing Noah and it turns out that Noah is really into that and Alistair and him start a relationship where Alistair is Noah’s daddy and he teaches a lot of things to Noah.
I read a lot of daddy books and I really enjoy brats in them. And Noah definitely was a brat, he was probably one of the bratiest character I have ever read. But his character really worked for me but mostly I just really enjoyed how Alistair handled him and tamed the brat in Noah. I really enjoyed seeing Noah's character progression in the book, it really worked for me.
I loved how the daddy part was done in this book, so much. Alistair was what I always love in a daddy, flawed enough that he feels realistic and super strong and caring. I loved how commanding he was and how he always took care of his boy. I loved how everything he did was to make Noah feel better and to make sure that Noah had a life he enjoyed, that really worked for me. Also I loved how protective of Noah Alistair was, Alistair was often defending Noah to anyone who dared say something bad about him and that worked for me.
I really enjoyed how this book was done. I liked how much of the romance there was and how the relationship was super present, but it was also cut by an investigation side plot that I really enjoyed. I liked how it wasn’t too predictable and it was a lot of fun to read.
I’m pretty much I could have melted while reading this book, it was so scorching. I just cannot put words on how steamy this book was.
I really loved this book. I just didn't enjoy how it ended. But thats the one things I didn't really like about the book, so it didn't really affect my opinion of the book, I still adored it.
This is a book that I see myself going back to re-read some scenes a lot and I absolutely loved reading this book.
**I received an ARC of this book, and this is my honest review.**
- Reviewed in the United States on November 22, 2021I've been waiting for so long for Alistair's story to come out and was not disappointed. Firstly, mafia and daddy tropes are my go to reads. Reading these tropes together is sheer bliss for me. I am also so happy to get to know more of the other familiar characters. I especially adored Mickey and Roger's cameo, and the club scene with Alistair and Noah. I also got some of my questions from SFC answered. Overall, I loved it and definitely recommend this book. I look forward to the next one. Hoping to see more of Alistair and Noah in the future as well as Junior's story.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 29, 2021I dont think the character development in book is at all realistic. Any romance is really just fluff for the sex scenes. So read this book with the sex scenes as the goals. Otherwise, it falls flat.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 20, 2021One of my favourites in the Cold Hard Cash universe so far. For those like me dying for more Alistair after the taste we got in Strapped for Cash.. this is a happy day!
Noah is a sassy boy who needs someone to keep him in line. Boss Cold's old mentor is just the one to do it.
Absolutely smoking hot. Every book I swear gets hotter and hotter and I am dying for more of his daddy gangster. A Quick Buck (I love this freaking title. I love all the titles) is another fantastic addition to my growing Hiers collection.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 20, 2021I am a fan of this author’s other series so when I got a chance to read this one early I had no problem trying it out. I read the first book in the series before this one so I could tell that even it it is a stand alone, there are mentions of other things in the series and character cameos. (If you love Mickey and Roger, their cameo is scorching hot). I did struggle a little with two things though. I didn’t find Noah likeable. Not in the way that Jimmy is. The beginning really does a good job of showing how awful of a person he is and I never felt like he grew or moved much beyond that, even with Alistair’s ‘firm hand’. Also, I knew that there was an age gap but not until I read a few of the series’ other books did I realize how much of one there is. I know that not everyone will have an issue with it , but for me it was a really big gap. Overall, it’s a good story for the series and fans will like the connections to their other books, and the writing is in the same fluid style. It interested me enough to go back and read other books from the series.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 20, 2021I have never been so excited for a spin off since the Percy Jackson books. Just wow. Alistair is just perfect, and it's nice to hear his side a bit from the story from strapped for cash. Noah is just a loveable brat that hits me in all my insecurities and makes me love him. I can't even begin to form how much I love these characters plus juinor! Murray the mouths son!! Omg he's just like his pops. The mystery surrounding this book really keeps you guessing to the end. This might finally top my love for the original.

5.0 out of 5 stars Entitled Brat, Sexy Mob Guy and Bodies
Noah is renowned for being the spoilt rich kid whose parents died and now spends his days in bed and his nights drinking then in bed with some random guy.
When "businessman" Alistair Star and his team turn up looking for Noah's absent uncle, he ends up as the hostage but being the brat he is, Alistair takes him in hand.
This is hot, kinky, has a decent crime and mystery backstory and Noah goes through a learning curve in more ways than one.
Good fun.

5.0 out of 5 stars I like it, very much so...
You don't wanna stop until the end. Cried and laugh all together. I like all the personages and the kinks too 🤭🤫😉

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Story
I'm such a dolt! I saw the title, read the blurb, oooh, sounds like Boss Cold and Jimmy, so I buy it and start to read. Oooh, really does sound like Boss Cold and Jimmy, although I'm only 8% in. Then I look at the author's name, doh! Now I KNOW this is going to be good. I did not like Noah for the longest time, arrogant and drunken, he had this 'selfish poor little rich boy' thing going on. Even when he mellowed, with a little help, he was exasperating often. This author wows us against with an amazing tale, not quite as intense gangster stuff as in the Boss Cold stories but still an exciting read, and with a freaking ton of sexiness. Boss Cold gets a mention now and then, which is nice. And the ending??? Phenomenal!! Great plot twist.

3.0 out of 5 stars About nothing...
Honestly, I expected more, but this whole story about nothing with not well written characters, too flat with minimum emotions.
