Against the Rules (Harts of Passion Book 1) Kindle Edition
My life, my rules:
1. My business is my life and vice versa.
2. Vulnerability is not an option.
3. Relationships are too distracting (see rule 1 and 2.)
Hard lessons learned at an early age made me the success I am today, and I would never yield having the upper hand. Then Grace swept into my life. She’s beautiful, funny, and has a big heart that could only be broken by a guy like me. But I want her. She might be the biggest risk I’ve ever encountered, with the biggest stakes.
Grace Hart
My life, their rules:
1. My business is their business.
2. Smile – someone is always watching
3. Forget having a sex life. (see rule 1 and 2)
Life in a fishbowl isn’t easy, especially when it comes to dating. I attract a lot of losers simply because I’m nice. And if a better prospect comes along, there’s my dad, ready to send them running with just a look. Until Jaxson. He’s bold and sexy. But I can tell he’s withholding a piece of himself from me, and I'm an all or nothing kind of girl.
He wants me on his terms. I want him without terms. To get what we want, we might both have to go against the rules.

About the author

M.E. Montgomery can’t remember a time she hasn’t had at least one book on the go. After years of falling headfirst into the lives and loves of other characters, M.E. decided to write her own novel. She enjoys creating the kind of realistic storybook friends you could actually meet somewhere, and sometimes she finds herself wondering what those characters are up to once she’s delivered their happily ever after.
She’s married to her best friend and has four children and two Boxer dogs. They live wherever the Navy sends her husband, usually the East coast of the U.S., but also once in Japan.
Whenever she’s not writing or substitute teaching, she often ponders the riddle of how the kitchen sink appears to automatically refill with dirty dishes as soon as her back is turned. On the occasions it stays empty, you can find her with a glass of wine or Scotch outside at their fireplace or curled up inside with a book, binge watching TV, or chatting with readers.

- Reviewed in the United States on August 9, 2018One of ME Montgomery’s best books to date! This story will have you laughing, wondering, guessing, and falling so in love you won’t want to put it down.
These two have to work for each other and what a beautiful ride we take.
Jax and Grace have a bumpy start but once the layers are peeled away and these two get to know each other, there’s no stopping their love for one another.
Jax has a past and one that is dark, he’s still holding onto it and builds up walls and is a totally manwhore. But Grace plans to knockdown those walls and her love he can finally close the door to his past.
Highly recommended!
- Reviewed in the United States on August 9, 2018Against The Rules is one fantastic read. You can't help but love meddling families. And watching Jackson and Grace together. Sometimes you were just waiting for that oh no moment. Then you are hit with that finally. I love the banter with Grace and Jackson through out this one. They are a perfect match even with being a preachers daughter and anti relationship playboy. Both have strong hearts and yet trust issues. Once you really get to know Grace and Jax you understand why and you hope they can help each move on together. Grace is amazing in her sassy ways and I love how she brings Jax to his knees. There are a lot of sweet laughable moments mixed in with the sassy and sexy along with that little dash of oh, come on get it together and be still my heart. You will swoon and laugh as Grace and Jax come together. The way everyone is interconnected and meddling they didn't stand a chance of not getting together. I love how that neither wanted to change yet both still manage to find this connection that they weren't looking for. I love the Hart sisters and I really can't wait for more. M.E. Montgomery blew me away with this one and I have to say is one of my favorite reads by her. I really couldn't put this one down.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 20, 2018Wow, I was pulled into this book, this world of Grace and her crazy, loving family and of course Jaxson, rich, drop dead gorgeous and emotionally unavailable. What’s a girl to do but dive right in and enjoy the ride. This book dealt with some really sensitive and deep subject matter but I found the book to be beautifully written and respectful in its delivery. I could sit and read this story forever... in fact I didn’t want it to end. My only thought was it ended too abruptly, in my opinion..... but maybe I’m just being greedy. I’m glad there is another book coming out this year! This book was enjoyable- give it a read👍 ~ Angie❤️
- Reviewed in the United States on August 9, 2018I loved this hometown romance between a smart, sassy-mouthed preacher’s daughter and a arrogant, relationship-shy entrepreneur.
Jaxsom Carter never shied away from taking risks in his business deals, but when it came to his heart, he played one night only and held all the strings… until he met Grace Hart. He knew instinctively that she was different from any woman he’d ever wanted before and that was before he even spoke to her. But, that didn’t stop him from taking a chance.
Grace only wanted a simple life, one free from the suspicious and vindictive minds of some of her father’s parishioners, being watched by those old busybodies wasn’t how she wanted her life to be. Meeting Jaxsom brought a whole other set of problems, but they were ones she wanted to handle.
And that was Jaxsom Carter. And no wonder, this man was all kinds of hot. Arrogant, mercurial, defensive and sexy as sin, who can resist all that?
I loved how this story didn’t just revolve around the couple, their families were right there in the thick of things too, but that also meant that Jaxson and Grace were just one step away from an ‘uh-oh moment’.
I enjoyed the push and pull between them, their chemistry was explosive with some seriously scorching scenes mixed with the more emotional or endearing ones. These two will melt your heart, if not your kindle. Grab a copy today and get ready to swoon.
I certainly did, and now I’m ready for another Hart.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 10, 2018I absolutely adored this book! Grace only does relationships, and Jax only does one night stands. These two can go nowhere, right? From the sparks that flew from their first meeting I was sure this was going to be a fast HEA...but boy was I so very wrong. Accidental meetings, meddling parents, nosy sisters, and secrets...this book had me pulled in from the very beginning. The tension that built between Grace and Jax...HOT HOT HOT!! These characters were so wonderfully brought to life! I’m so happy this is the beginning of a whole new series of stand alone books! I can’t wait to see what happens with all of Grace’s sisters!
- Reviewed in the United States on August 10, 2018I am not sure about how I feel when it comes to this book. On one hand, I managed to finish it in one day, but on the other, I wonder how I was able to do that. I was reading it in a painfully slow pace and I kept feeling that it was dragging to a point where I started doubting if I was going to be able to finish the book. Maybe the reason why I felt this way is that Jax and Grace spend a lot of time running circles and not caving into their attraction. They know they want different things in life and that prevents them from having any kind of relationship other than friendship. I liked Grace and Jax as characters, but not so much as a couple. I want to know what happened to Micah. We saw him often and I just wanted to see how his life is going on after he spend so much time with Jax. We saw him at some late point in the book and he seemed like a better person and I wonder if everything is going to be ok in his life from now on.
Jax's past is not a happy one and we see glimpses of it until he decided that it was time to reveal the truth to Grace and let her in. I don't think that this book is for everyone and you should know that it might contain triggers for some of the readers even if it his past wasn't described in many details.

I'm not sure how I feel about this one. Everyone seems so unhappy all the time; even after the MCs get together they seem unhappy. The book moved along too slowly for my liking and I almost DNF'd more than once. I gave it 2.5 stars because I liked the plot and other than the slow pace the writing was good.
