All The Way Home (Way Home Series Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.5 4.5 out of 5 stars 184 ratings

Will waiting for him be enough?

She stole my breath when we were only sixteen.

I said I would be her friend, then I went and fell in love instead.
She was everything to me, but she was hell-bent on destroying herself.
I couldn't stand to watch, so I ran to the army and never looked back.
That is, until the prospect of war brings me to her doorstep again.

Last time I was weak.
This time, I'm more than strong enough to fight her demons.

I've always been too damaged for him.
He was everything to me, but I've been too broken for too long to be what he needs.
The first time he left, I thought it was for good.
Until he showed back up to rescuse me, just to leave me.

Again.

This time, it’s in a uniform and slinging a rifle.

This time the stakes are highter.

He told me not to wait.

I don’t think my heart will give me a choice.

When he does get home, though, everything has changed.

This time, he might need me to rescue him.

All The Way Home is the first novel in the Way Home Series, but can be read as a stand-alone with its own couple and HEA.

This book is intended for readers 18+ and deals with themes that include combat-related PTSD, sexual assault, and domestic violence.

Kim Mills intended to grow up to be a psychologist with a loft apartment and 3 cats. Instead she dropped out of college and married a teenage soldier and had babies. No one ever asks her to speak on career day.

After working and volunteering in Social Services for years, Kim began writing in 2011 on what is now the Canadian military family blog She is Fierce. Somehow, that led her here. No one is more surprised than she is.

You can find Kim with the childhood sweetheart she's been married to for over 15 years, along with her 3 kids and their border collie Trooper, making home wherever the army sends them.

This book is an insightful, realistic and heartfelt look into the lives of our Canadian military families. This book will make you cry and it will make you laugh. It will make you realize just how grateful you are for the men and women who dedicate their careers, and too often, give their lives to protect our freedoms.
Kim Mills is a great writer. I can’t wait for the next book!

I don't give out 5 star reviews very often but this book deserves one. It's refreshing reading about someone in the Canadian military for a change. The author knows the military because she lives it every day. The story was so believable, I felt as though it really happened. I guess in some ways it has to many military families. She portrayed Tavish as as real man and not a robot. He suffered losses and showed his emotions rather than keeping them bottled up. And, he was a just a good guy trying his best to be a friend to a girl that needed one. Juliette was a tortured soul and it was nice to see her transform over the years. A great all round book that makes you smile and cry. Be warned to have tissues handy. You're going to need them.

I enjoyed this excellent and intriguing first novel by Kim Mills. It is engrossing reading, with characters who are real and a bit rough around the edges. Gritty, believable, and in some places a touch raw, this story is by turns difficult to read and heartwarming. I enjoyed following the characters in the novel and felt that most certainly the scenes involving military are very well done and real.

If you enjoy military-themed romance that is more realistic and a bit sexy than sweet, this is a great choice for you.

PG-18 for language, PTS scenes, war themes, alcohol use.

I've been following Kim's blog and on social media and have always enjoyed her voice. She is compassionate, articulate and honest. Although her writing is beautiful, sometimes the subject matter isnt, as is life. And i appreciate this. She has a knack for taking a difficult subject and starting a conversation; a true gift. So I'm not surprised I loved this book. And I can't wait for the next one!

Well written story that tugs at the heartstrings, especially if you are related to the military. As a military spouse each story hits close to home. I love that this is written in such a way that you see both sides of the story. Many of us don't know what's going on in our soldiers mind. Kim writes from the heart and draws the reader in. Couldn't put it down, totally recommend it to everyone.

Bought this book as it was written by a Canadian and a spouse of a serving CAF member. I am not a fan of the romance genre...will not be carrying on with the series.
Certain aspects of military life were accurate, others were unrelatable.

Kim writes an amazing and beautiful love story. Once I started reading I couldn't put the book down. I had to finish it. I had to know how their story ended. She had me laughing and crying. She writes about the tales of war from the soldiers point of view eloquently and factually. As I read excerpts to my husband (A Canadian soldier who has been to Afghanistan), where Kim described places or things about Afghanistan, he nods and agrees with her descriptions. I didn't want this book to end, and if anything, it leads me wanting more! I can't wait for your second book to come out, I'm sure it will be just as amazing as this one was!

5.0 out of 5 stars An intense journey
Reviewed in Brazil on March 28, 2023
I enjoyed this book. I read a lot of military romance novels, but I was curious to read stories that weren't just about characters from the USA, and I was recommended by the author Kim Mills from Canada.
It's not a book that idealizes the hero or heroine. The characters are very relatable, with an intense and painful journey in their relationship, but also beautiful and true.
I will be reading the next books in the series.

I opened this book to read ONE page. I read 70, and woke to read the rest the next day!

It’s one of the first fiction books I’ve LOVED in decades. I’m going to start the next one after a nap, because I know I’ll be reading it in the same day, too!

I recommend it to anyone wanting to see a good romance from two real world characters. Her work to make it accurate to the environment of CAF is admirable!

SO SO good! And be ready for emotions!
