As a girl growing up in Voronezh, Russia, Lena Mikado loved the Southern classic novel Gone with the Wind so much so that she now lives with her husband and 3 children in the sunny Golden Isles of Georgia, and she strongly suspects that her fascination with the work of Margaret Mitchell had a great deal to do with how her life unfolded. Writing about the magic way fiction and reality tend to interweave in our everyday lives has become Lena’s true motivation on her creative journey. When not busy writing, she loves learning French, traveling the world with her family, belly-dancing and enjoying an occasional glass of wine in her lovely back yard.

Lena writes tongue-in-cheek, reality-based novels that take the reader on an enjoyable trip all around the world that are full of colorful, thought-provoking reflections on the matters that preoccupy most of us every minute of our lives: relationships, parenthood and trying to live in the present moment—all of that with a splash of delicious, flying-by-the-seat-of-your-pants humor splashed on top. My Journey to the Ocean and A Year in the Sky are the first two novels of the All Colors of the Rainbow series, and they are now available from all major online bookstores. Lena is currently working on her third and final novel in the series—titled It's All About Love. Visit her online at lenamikado.com.

If you haven’t read My Journey to the Ocean yet, you really should. A Year in the Sky picks up the story of Chris and Elena. We find Elena back in her hometown in Russia waiting for immigration to approve her application while she finishes her advanced degree in linguistics . After a whirlwind romance and marriage to her handsome Chris, we find that where first you find the intense sweetness of the fruit of love, sometimes you must endure a pit or two in order to grow more sweetness for the future. If you’ve never had to endure the hardships of a forced long distance relationship, Elena lets you in. From the fury of an irate, jilted ex-fiancé to the shenanigans of a scheming ex-girlfriend aka "best friend" of the groom, to the barren loneliness of living without your one—who just became your one—you can feel her growing pains as she tries to tamp down her worries and ambivalence about a future she can feel coming, but not quite see just yet. While waiting for clearance to move to the U.S. Chris and Elena meet for short sojourns across the globe where they have the opportunity to rediscover each other while exploring some of magnificent places the world has to offer. From Moscow to Cyprus, and a few spots in between, our newlyweds take us with them as they learn to navigate each other and make memories grander than diamonds. While the joys are tremendous, there is also the angst of parting and the despair of facing months, possibly years, without each other . Through it all, though, is the irrepressible spirit of Elena—finding the faith to believe in yourself even when it’s hard, reveling in new adventures while digging deep for the determination to plant your roots in your dreams, and the perseverance for nurturing them and seeing them flower. Take the trip and spend some time with this magic girl who believes that love can conquer all.

A must read. If you ever have doubted yourself, had a battle with low self esteem and didn’t believe that love could conquer all, then this is a book that will change your mind. You will laugh, cringe, worry and cry. In the end your heart will be in love with the love they have. Such an amazing journey of discovery. Made me believe what I am going through and feeling is what is meant for my happy ending. Such an amazing author. Hope to read more amazing books in the future.

It is a feel good kind of a book that is a great summer read. This novel is a brisk moving tale. It is a good romantic comedy with an inevitable happy ending just like you might watch on TV.  It is like a stroll down memory lane, taking you back to your 20 year old self and the care- free days of university.
You accompany two different people finding their way to each other and getting to know each other and working things out, learning to be together after the honeymoon phase is over and real life begins. Lots of funny moments along the way. Without giving too many details away, it is a coming of age story too and the start of a truly independent life in a place of her dreams with her knight in shining armour, not just finding her prince but herself as well. It is a heart warming story, touching, especially for someone who has gone through a similar life experience. It was worth the wait. Run, don't walk, to get your copy!

It is the second book by Lena Mikado and I loved it just like the first one in the series! Will definitely get the third one when it is out! It is super romantic, adventurous, intriguing and with a great sense of humor. Reading "A year in the sky" was like riding an emotional roller coaster - the book has everything - it will take you high, it will take you low... it made me laugh and it made me cry...it really connected with my senses... The book is based on a true love story and takes you through the first year of marriage, which Elena and Chris mostly spent apart. Can`t wait to learn what happens to this crazy Russian-American couple next...
