Accidental Love (Special Forces Veterans Book 1) Kindle Edition
The book includes steamy love scenes intended for a mature audience.
Delaney Cole has no interest in love and marriage, at this time. She’s a computer whiz, aiming to become a force in Silicon Valley. To pay the bills, she teaches computer science at the local high school. When a fellow teacher is murdered, Delaney finds herself the focus of a psychopath’s fantasies.
Enter Jake Torrance, Special Forces veteran, now a homicide detective with the Boston PD. Jake’s commitment to his work was a factor in the breakdown of his marriage. The follow-on slugfest divorce was a life lesson he won’t soon forget.
While the murder investigation unfolds, and the killer circles closer, Jake and Delaney dance around their unexpected attraction to each other. The charismatic detective fits the image of Delaney’s fantasy lover to a T, but he’s arrived too early and at the worst possible time.
Jake struggles to stay professional, but Delaney stirs emotions he thought he could no longer feel. He starts to believe she might be his second chance at happiness—if he can keep her alive.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 8, 2020I received an advanced review copy of Accidental Love from the author prior to its release.
Delaney Cole is working late at the high school where she teaches IT when a fellow teacher is murdered. Thinking he had had a heart attack, she rushed to help him and finds he’s been shot multiple times. Homicide Detective Jake Torrance and other investigators show up at the scene and place the blood-stained at the top of their suspect list.
There’s chemistry between Delaney and Jake from the get-go. But both of them have been burned before and Jake is fighting hard not to give in to his desires because he isn’t sure he can trust Delaney and thinks she’s hiding something. Meanwhile, the killer still on the loose is infatuated with Delaney and he’s not only armed and dangerous, he’s completely crazy.
Atwood’s novel is super exciting, with plenty of action and erotic scenes to keep the pulse pounding and some surprise twists that kept me guessing. A great read. Can’t wait to read the next book in the series.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 22, 20206:30 pm. Boston, MA. Martha Barrett HS. Room # 7. Delaney Cole (25+, computer whiz, HS computer science teacher) was grading midterms when she heard a popping noise.
There surely were no teaching staff or students left in the school.
She bunded up the remaining papers & headed toward the front entrance.
Delaney spotted someone going to the back stairway.
A classroom door was standing wide open, there was Jack Patterson (math teacher) lying on the floor holding his chest.
911, & she tired CPR.
Bill Lieu (head janitor) appeared in the room.
The paramedics soon arrived but it was too late Jack didn’t make it.
Principal Paul Wiggins, John Simpson (ME) & 2 assts., & Sergeant Bryant soon arrived at the crime scene.
Jack had been shot.
Detective Jake Torrance (Boston PD Homicide, retired US Army Special Forces: Green Berets

Judy McCain had opened a unisex hair salon (Newbury St.), and wanted to celebrate with her 2 BFF’s: Beth & Delaney.
Detective Stan Durbin (Boston PD Homicide) had been assigned the hit/run case on Larch Ave.

A very awesome book cover, great font & writing style. A very well written romance thriller book. It was very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters to keep track of. This could also make another great romantic thriller movie, or better yet a mini TV series. It was just OK for me so I will only rate it at 4/5 stars.

- Reviewed in the United States on June 23, 2020This was a true romantic suspense novel. The romance played an integral part in the story but it was also jammed packed with action and suspense throughout the book. I loved Delaney's character. She was strong, beautiful, confident, and mature, mature not in age but in the sense that she kept a level head, even when things were falling apart around her. It took me a while to like Jake. He was a strong alpha male but he kept going back and forth, not sure of himself or his feelings for Delaney. Yes, his ex-wife hurt him deeply and if affected his confidence in women and he developed trust issues, but he should've had more faith in Delaney. When he finally realized he was crazy about her and never wanted to be without her, he finally won me over. There were some sad moments in the book. It deals with murder and was a little graphic with the gore at times, but overall this book was great! If you like romance with murder mystery, give this one a try. You won't be disappointed. I will be reading more books from Ali Atwood and the special forces veterans series.
I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 9, 2020The romantic suspense genre is a bit tricky to successfully execute in my opinion. There has to be an equal balance between the romance and the suspense/thriller parts. To me, when one overshadows the other it takes away from the story and the flow of events.
This was my first book by this author and it was a little heavy on the romance and not so much the investigation. This is not a bad thing nor does it make this a bad book ... but for me, I want that pulse pounding, edge-of-your-seat thrill. This book lacked that. It didn’t really focus on the investigation and what the police department was doing to catch the killer. In fact, they didn’t really seem to be doing much of anything. I suspected who the killer was pretty early on and he wasn’t much. Just another garden variety sexual freak.
The romance between the characters was intense and interesting but it was insta-lust. And at really awkward moments, like at a homicide crime scene. All they really thought about was jumping each other’s bones WHICH AS I’VE SAID IS NOT NECESSARILY A BAD THING but it’s just weird. I also hate when the female character gets upset over something and decides to run off alone knowing very well she’s in danger. I rolled my eyes so many times at her reactions.
All in all, this was a good and quick read. It did keep my attention and I was intrigued to see how it would end. I thank the author for giving me this arc, it was truly a pleasure.
