I Went on an Adventure and All I Got Was This Barbarian Orc: Crack Fantasy Adventure Chapter 5 Kindle Edition
Lawton:
I honestly thought passing through the ward to the freezing land of Gwafellaw would be more miserable than it turns out to be. Who has time to be miserable when everything in the land wants to kill you? No one, that’s who.
Between fighting dragons, finding a new species, and saving a crazy druid, Berklak and I are learning exactly what it means to be anchored, tied together, bonded, and in love. We’re going to defeat the aelysou hurting Fasgard no matter what it takes, because I’m the high sorcerer of Fasgard and the most powerful necromancer alive. I won’t let anything separate me from the love of my life—not my father, not a goddess, not even death.
Berklak:
I’ve been adventuring for over fifty years, and I’ve adventured in Gwafellaw before, but I’ve never seen so much hostility. The only good thing walking this land is Lawton, and I’d follow him to the portals of death herself if that’s where he wanted to go.
I might not be sure exactly what we’re going to find in this frozen wasteland, but if it’s not my happily ever after, I won’t have done my job right. I’m proficient in weapons, and I’m confident we’ll prevail, but it’s a good thing we have Lawton to keep us from permanently making the ultimate sacrifice. I’d hate for him to lose me before we even figure out where we’re going to live after this.
I Went on an Adventure and All I Got Was This Barbarian Orc is a five chapter serial fantasy adventure with a light-hearted, fun TTRPG vibe. Expect big magic, lots of cuddles, plenty of steam, and a team of characters that might not get a natural 20 on every roll, but they make up for it with creative solutions to both magical and mundane problems.- LanguageEnglish

- Reviewed in the United States on February 4, 2024Totally worth the read!
It’s light hearted and fun. It’s got adventure and romance with heaping piles of magic and fantasy.
It really does feel like a board game as the characters work out what their next move is. I utterly adore Lawton and Berklak. They’re so cute together?
Heat level a 2/5. There could easily be more heat but that’s not really the focus of this story. This is an adventure story with a side of romance and it’s wonderful.
If you’re looking for a light hearted read as a palate cleanser or just something to lift your spirits this series is what you’re looking for.
I know this is that last in this series but i’m hoping there’ll be another series with another adventure bc I loved these characters so much.
I DO feel like if the author wanted to they could go back and flesh this out and make it less crack fantasy more story but I feel like that would take some of the light hearted lines away from it…..if she did an alternate universe tyoe thing and rewrote this as a story but left her crack fantasy in another universe I’d totally read that too lol.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 5, 2024Another great series from one of my favorite authors. I really enjoyed this one and the world created. It was a bit complicated and could be confusing at times. So much history was shared throughout the story. A little more background or explanation was needed but overall this was excellent and I hope we get another adventure preferably in one full length book
- Reviewed in the United States on August 9, 2024This whole story was fun and engaging. I love that the author said she would roll dice for the characters' actions to see how they would play out. It made me keep thinking, "oh, I bet she rolled for that part!" as I was reading. It was enjoyable. The story was cute, the characters were neat, and I enjoyed the world building. As someone who doesn't really prefer full fantasy, I was surprised how much I liked this. It was humorous and fast-paced enough that it didn't get bogged down, yet she kept adding to it without getting too confusing. I would have liked another book, honestly. The epilogue part was a bit rushed. Would definitely read more in this world.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 31, 2024This series was so fun to read! I don't even play RPG's, but I'll read everything Jennifer Cody writes, so it was no surprise to me that I thoroughly enjoyed reading Law and Berklak's adventures. I loved Law coming into his own throughout the series and learning the extent of his abilities. What I loved most was Berklak's unwavering love and loyalty, and how that love and loyalty convinced Law he was deserving of, and due, love, respect, and loyalty. I loved each member of the adventuring party too. They were loyal to Law from the very beginning. Jennifer Cody said she wrote this series for fun, but it's also a good reminder to people to stop treating people badly who are different than they are. EVERYONE has value and talents of their own. Law is a necromancer, therefore he must be feared and reviled. Pfffft! Law's awesome, and I'm so happy he ended up owning that! This series is fun, adventurous, humorous, and oh so steamy!
- Reviewed in the United States on January 31, 2024I think some of our adventurers rolled a critical fail in this final installment! But no worries because our beloved necromancer is here! What a way to end a story! I am so in love with Lawton and Berklak and the whole found family they have assembled. Lawton needs love and respect and has managed to surround himself with a group that will take care of him and surround him with the support he needs for life. And if someone dares speak against him, Berklak will straighten them out. I love how the author wrote this and I can just hear her cackling as she rolled the dice. Amazing story overall and I loved every single word of it! I need the further adventures of the Beefcake Brigade.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 5, 2024Dang, I'm mad these are over but I'm doing a little happy dance because they were SO GOOD! I've read Jennifer Cody's Shah Mat series and that was like, modern gay epic fantasy with lots of angst, intrigue, violence etc. Wonderful and 10/10 also recommend, but *this* adorable little crack fantasy adventure was like that but the light version, absolute perfection - super freaking cute with all the fantasy and unhinged adventures you'd expect from a dnd campaign with lots of friends and plentiful booze.
I would sacrifice as many mead barrels as it takes if we got to also read about the next adventure, and (pretty please) got more Darian, Ingrahm and Armus action/perspective/deets !
- Reviewed in the United States on February 1, 2024If all 5 chapters came out at once I would have been up all night. I just loved reading this. Law gets gets an awesome team that trusts him to help defeat evil of a gods making. Sexy, serious, and funny times mixed together for your reading delight.

5.0 out of 5 stars I went on an Adventure…….chapter 5
This is the culmination of Berklak, Lawton and their assorted team’s quest.
Will they finally discover the cause behind the miasma and defeat it?
You’ll have to read it to find out and let’s be honest if you’ve already read chapters 1-4 you’re not going to balk at reading this one even if I gave a negative review.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun Adventure Serial
This was a fun ride that I am sad to see end. I hope the author writes more in this universe with these characters as I feel like we just scratched the surface.
Fun characters, nice found family vibe, and cute romance

5.0 out of 5 stars Sad it's over
This mini series is a fabulously funny and enjoyable read.
The only downside is I feel that after such a long build up it ended quite abruptly
and left me with a few unanswered questions. I'm hoping that this is not the end for a adventurous group and that we may some day see them again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cute!
Good story. I wish they were longer, but everything fits together so well I don't even know what else could be added that wouldn't take away from the story.
I love this series. The characters are fun, the quest is intriguing, and the ending is great! I don't always appreciate how authors, especially of fantasy stories end their books but this author does an excellent job tying up what is needed.
