Killing Frost: A Post-Apocalyptic Disaster Saga (After the Shift Series Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 292 ratings

Nathan and his family are on the run from a catastrophic polar shift—but the bitter cold is the least of their worries.

Nathan was led to believe Detroit would be the Promised Land, but when his family arrives they find a city struggling just to survive frigid conditions. Nathan’s old friend Stryker has made a safe haven in the ancient Masonic Building, but it soon becomes clear the comfortable life within his walls is unsustainable. Resources are running out fast, and with a new baby to feed and a son in need of medicine, Nathan and Cyndi face a difficult choice: dig in with the dangerously naïve Stryker or head west to Wyoming with their friends Donie and Dave.

As Nathan debates this fateful decision, he learns the horrifying secret behind Stryker’s success. He knows deep down that he is unwilling to pay such a price for his family’s safety, but leaving the city is no easy matter when even the walls have eyes. Now, his family, Syd, and their friends will have to use all their skills to help each other escape, or die trying.

Prepper survivalist author Grace Hamilton invites you to step into a post-apocalyptic, EMP-ravaged world filled with strong, resourceful characters, survivalist knowledge, and edge-of-your seat action.

FREE EMP Survival Story

An EMP hits—would you have what it takes to survive?

Grace Hamilton is the prepper pen-name for a bad-ass, survivalist momma-bear of four kids, and wife to a wonderful husband. After being stuck in a mountain cabin for six days following a flash flood, she decided she never wanted to feel so powerless or have to send her kids to bed hungry again. Now she lives the prepper lifestyle and knows that if SHTF or TEOTWAWKI happens, she’ll be ready to help protect and provide for her family.

Combine this survivalist mentality with a vivid imagination (as well as a slightly unhealthy day dreaming habit) and you get a prepper fiction author. Grace spends her days thinking about the worst possible survival situations that a person could be thrown into, then throwing her characters into these nightmares while trying to figure out "What SHOULD you do in this situation?"

It’s her wish that through her characters, you will get to experience what life will be like and essentially learn from their mistakes and experiences, so that you too can survive!

Still a great read, but so many challenges and heartache. Probably realistic since the Apocalypse is not a nice place to be. Can't wait to read the next book.

Not as happy with this series.

This book continues the struggles of survival for Nathan and his group. It is a page Turner for sure. There are constant twists and turns, surprises, and such more. A must read book.

Another terrific series from Grace Hamilton. Love the characters in this series. So sad for the book to end. On to book three.

In this second book of the AFTER THE SHIFT series, Nathan, his family and friends have made it to Detroit but have found it's not quite the cozy haven as promised by old friend Stryker.

The baby has been born but isn't thriving at first so they need the limited medical care that Detroit offers. Otherwise, the group would be heading further west where they hear the weather is actually better.

All the members of the group work to stay alive but there's treachery all around, most of the time unexpected.

I liked Nathan's character more in this second book but still have other favorites, namely his wife Cyndi and his son Tony. Again there are some memorable side characters the reader meets over the course of the book.

I am now off to read book three in the series BLACK ICE.

I felt that this was a good book overall. I think it added a couple good characters and built slightly on the characters we already knew.

If you read the first book then you know they were headed for Paradise in Detroit, and it ended up not being Paradise after all. In this book we see them trying to decide whether or not they want to move on or make a life for themself in Detroit.

There are some pretty crazy situations that I feel were contrived and that takes away from any story. Nathan is still a lovable dimwit though and his wife is better suited for survival than he is in my opinion.

You can read this book without having read the first one, there's enough information to get you up to speed, but I still suggest reading the first book. Also, this leads into what will probably end up being a trilogy. So keep in mind there is going to be at least one more.

I voluntarily reviewed this book after receiving a complimentary copy.

The book was full of adventure. It was very interesting and fast paced. Not a moment went by that wasn't full of excitement.
