Aggro: An Emotional Forbidden Romance Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 1,479 ratings

From International Bestselling Author Duo, CoraLee June and Carrie Gray, this raw, forbidden, angsty romance has a jaw-dropping twist you won't see coming. Aggro was voted best Romantic Suspense novel of 2020 by Books&Prime Blog.

There's a storm coming to the island. Our peaceful little paradise has been destroyed by tragedy--the brutal murder of my best friend, Violet Jones.

I never gave Kai Lewis much thought. He was once Violet's broody boyfriend, but now he's one of the few people I can trust to help find her killer. He approaches life the same way he surfs: Fearlessly. Aggressively. We clash in every way.

He's forbidden and rough around the edges.

They say grief bonds people. Like a stormy ocean with unpredictable swells, Kai calls to me. I'm addicted to the rush of being with him, even though it's wrong. Even though Violet is the one he wants. As I uncover the truth, I realize that her murderer could be anyone. My best friend's secrets run deep--each twist sends me farther into the unknown while the waves of grief keep crashing around me. Someone close to me brutally murdered Violet Jones.

I just hope I'm not falling in love with her killer.

Instantly hooked! A mystery you won’t solve until the LAST PAGE! Get ready :)
Aggro is an aggressive or violent behavior. This book had me hooked from the first page. It was so real. The characters dealt with emotions that were raw and extremely relatable. The book is about a girl who is murdered. And how grief is experienced among everyone involved differently. Grief breaks the characters down and shows you their real colors. It also shows you the opposite spectrum of grief. When the characters have healed and showed their growth. This book was so complex yet captivating. It is not a quick growth for the characters they experience it all. Grief, pain, denial, bargaining, and acceptance all of the stages of grief. I’ve never read a CLJ or CG book but boy they’re now on my favorites list. The mystery this story has to offer has you on your toes. You think you know who did it...but you don’t until the last chapter. I braced myself. The love story was so elegant and beautifully written as well. Breeze is a shy girl who wants to be in the background rather than the spotlight. Her best friend is murdered. She is left to pick up the pieces and try and solve what happened to gain closure for herself, her best friends brother, and her best friends ex boyfriend. I absolutely adored her entire narrative and she was so mature for a teenager. Again, the issues in this story are so real and vulnerable you can’t help but feel what is happening. Definitely top 10 favorite books of 2020!

Holy Cow you guys! Aggro was PHENOMENAL! Like top reads of 2020, phenomenal! I went into this book expecting something totally different than what I got, but I wasn’t disappointed by this fact in.any.way. This book is so powerful it will grab a hold of you and embed itself so deeply into your mind, heart and soul it will consume you until you have devoured every single word.

Aggro is the story of Breeze, Chase and Kai, three teens bound by grief over the death of Violet. Violet was Breeze’s best friend, twin sister to Chases and in a toxic relationship with Kai. This is a story of how the three of them deal with this tragic loss, as not only individuals but together. My heart felt like it was in a vice over and over. Just the amazing writing of CLJ and CG was so vivid and with such clear attention to detail I had to keep reminding myself ( you are not there, you don’t really know these people Irl) because I was a mess y’all.😭 Seriously, hot mess express! 😭😭
They set out on a quest desperate for answers. Three teens plagued by guilt, hurt, anger, and survivor's guilt. They are all working to put the pieces together to find out what happened the night of Violet’s violent death and the secrets she had been keeping from everyone that led up to her death. But will they be able to handle the truth when they get it?

Now, if you are like me, a bit of a cover ho, you assume by the amazing cover that we are getting a story from a Hero’s POV. However that isn’t how this goes down at all. It is even better. This amazing story takes place in a picturesque beach island town. We get POV’s from Breeze, Chase and Kai and I love this so much because each one is struggling in a different way to come to terms with what has happened. To have the story told in their voice as they are experiencing the different emotions is so emotional and powerful, it just takes the story to another level of awesome, and I’m so happy the authors did it this way. These three and their constant struggle with wondering who could have committed this crime and maybe at times even wonder about each other.
What I love is that no matter how many times you think you might have figured what’s going on or what’s gonna happen next CoraLee and Carrie pull the rug right out from under you.

I loved all of these characters. Breeze was the sweet wallflower that was always the silent shadow behind her outgoing best friend, Violet. She assumed she was never seen but that is far from the truth. For the longest time she had a crush on Chase but sister code prevented her from ever making a move.
Chase was hot, he was also a getaround girl hopper. He loved his sister and he loved Breeze. It seemed like he loved her like a sister but who knows maybe it could have been more at one time? 🤷🏼‍♀️
Then you have Kai, the one they call an Aggro, “which was an aggressive surfer, taking chances most of us wouldn’t.” He was gorgeous and tattooed, but when he was with Violet they were all wrong for each other. They were the very definition of toxicity. But when he looked at Breeze. Well that was a different story.

I won’t say anymore as not to give spoilers, but you NEED this book in your life like you need AIR. It will draw you in like a rip tide and pull you under in its clutches and twist you, turn you about, take your breath, scare you, and then finally spin you back
out the other side. You will never be the same, you will remember the feeling of it always.

I can’t possibly recommend this book enough. If I could custom order a book to be written for me with all the things I want in it, this would be what was delivered to me, but then when I opened the box and started reading my book there would be unexpected bonus material in it. That’s how fantastically, phenomenally, unforgettably amazing this book is!! CoraLee June and Carrie Gray slayed this book!!
You get murder, mystery, suspense, sexy, angsty goodness. But you also get the swoony, sweet, and forgiveness. You get a book where enemies become allies. I was on the edge of my seat and I was here for it all! I will definitely re-read this book. Because honestly I’m not ready to let these characters go. That epilogue y’all. I’m pretty sure my jaw is still ON.THE.FLOOR!
*I voluntarily reviewed an advanced complimentary copy of this book. But I loved it so much I had to buy a copy the second it released because I want to own it in every possible format.

My cr8zysockbookblock blog wrap up for this book!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐⭐⭐️-🏄‍♂️ 🌊Six SurfBoard and Perfect Wave Stars for this book! I loved this book so much. The setting, the characters, all of it was so fantastic. It was unputdownable, unforgettable. I’m obsessed with AGGRO. Breeze, Kai and Chase will not leave my heart and mind anytime soon.
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥- GAH! The love scenes were smokin hot and sensual. They weren't rushed, they were believable and felt authentic. So flippin 'HAWT!! 🔥🔥
🌪Cliffhanger Warning- I loved the ending so much. I will say I got the SHOCK of my life at the end. I was gobsmacked. I was fantastic!!!!

I was with this audiobook sitting on my Audible for a while now, just waiting for the right mood... Well... Apparently it wanted to be my last book of the year.

A single narration usually isn't my first choice on audiobooks, but it was a good narration. A girl narrating all of the guys' POVs, trying to make a dude's voice, ain't my cup of tea.

    About the story now...

    Grieve.
That's the first word that comes to my mind when I think about this book.
So much grieve, that at some point, I was wondering if it would have anything else in the story.

    And then Secrets.
Other than grieve, the secrets took place in the story and everyone needed to know what happened to Violet.

That girl died, but she left behind so many crumbs and lies, that she was a vital character along the book.

I liked this book. I liked the plot, even when I didn't loved all the characters.
Kai was brody and kinda of really ordinary.
Chase was a manwhore with abandonment issues.
    Breeze was a crying sunshine.
But together they were really good.
My favorite parts of the book where the ones of them as a family near the end. (Not a love triangle, but real friends).

I confess that all the affair part wasn't really a mystery for me, but I didn't saw that epilogue coming! Still can't say if I liked though.

But it was a good book.
I know that this review sucks, but that's it for now. I need to think about it.

Well... That's definitely a wrap on my 2020 books!

murder mystery suspense wrapped into an emotional journey of grief, tragedy, guilt, love, heartbreak, and soul-deep friendship

First, the mystery ... I loved how this was done. It gripped me from the beginning, had me questioning and guessing throughout, and then smacked me in the face at the end -gasp-
The uncovered lies, deceit, and betrayal were often rooted in love, even when twisted, which I found incredibly interesting.

The small island beach life setting of chill vibes, love of the ocean and surfing which ground the characters as well as connect them to each other, was full of vivid imagery -- I totally felt like I was there with them, whether it was catching a wave or soaking in a storm.

Our heroine, Breeze, is the shy, beautiful girl who strays from the limelight, more comfortable in the shadows, who loves fully and latches on to those she loves with an insistent grip. Her best friend, who she feels more closely connected to than if she had a sister, is murdered, and grief and guilt battle to swallow her whole. Her guilt starts out being mostly survivor's guilt and being under the impression that her BFF was looking for her when she was killed, but then it gets more complicated than that and she struggles with permitting herself to feel happiness or joy when her BFF is no longer in the world with her. Secrets are revealed, which have her questioning what she thought she knew of her BFF and their soul-sisterhood. The readers are privy to excerpts from the BFF's diary, interspersed throughout the story - which I absolutely loved.

I really loved Breeze. L-O-V-E-D her!!! I felt like I could see into her heart and soul. She takes the saying "wearing your heart on your sleeve" to a whole new level while also not tolerating the people she cared about treating her like less-than. Not cocky or confident, but she knew her worth. She is probably the most emotionally mature 17/18 yro FMC that I've read; definitely stood out for me. I loved how grounded she was and also how transparent she was with the two Hs, especially in moments of hardship and pain. Each of the main characters show a lot of growth over the story, but I especially loved Breeze's.

Next, the Hs and the love triangle .... Let me just say I HATE love triangles. Really, it was only my love and trust in Coralee June that had be reading this. And I'll just say that I was pleasantly surprised (trying to keep this non-spoilery). I actually really liked how the romance story was done, and I loooooooved how it turned out for the three of them in the end. While there are pops of jealousy and push/pull with the h, I actually felt like the angst level was mild, which I greatly appreciated and I think suited the story better, especially for Breeze's character (otherwise I probably wouldn't have loved her as much). I love how the relationships form - it's not instant and it's not pretty, but what they form is amazing and beautiful and soul-deep.

"Our love story might not have been conventional, but it was perfectly ours."

This book is a standalone story, told primarily in first person POV by the FMC (Breeze), with the occasional alternate POV thrown in. The authors note that they plan to release another book later this year continuing the story for one of the characters, presumably to find their HEA.

I read this book in one sitting (who needs sleep right!?) I literally couldn't put it down I was sucked in right from the start! Ive read a few romantic suspense type books but they all leaned too heavy to one genre. This book was a perfect balance of both and I loved it! This author duo is amazing loved all their books so far but this one is definitely my favorite! Its so good that even though its available through KU I still bought it and thats rare for me!
Serious READ IT NOW but make sure to clear your schedule bc you aren't going to be able to put it down!

Aggro by CoraLee June and Carrie Gray

Aggro is my first read from CoraLee June and Carrie Gray— oh my freaking word!!!! Blown-the-f*ck-away and pulled me under in one of the most beautifully messy, twisty, suspenseful reads with overwhelming undercurrents of tragedy and grief... just when I thought I all was revealed— BOOM!! My entire belief system detonated. Am I being overly dramatic?— absolutely freaking not. I spent the best part of the last 36 hours talking nonstop about this book and this will be going in my all time top book recs,, and definitely in my top reads of 2020. The words, the emotions are embedded under my very skin, crawling inside my veins! The rawness is too real and brings out the element of ALL THE FEELS!!

“𝐼’𝑑 𝑛𝑒𝑣𝑒𝑟 𝑏𝑒𝑒𝑛 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑔𝑖𝑟𝑙 𝑡𝑜 𝑐ℎ𝑎𝑠𝑒 𝑠𝑜𝑚𝑒𝑡ℎ𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑡ℎ𝑎𝑡 𝑤𝑎𝑠𝑛’𝑡 𝑚𝑖𝑛𝑒. 𝐼 𝑙𝑖𝑘𝑒𝑑 𝑡𝑜 𝑤𝑎𝑖𝑡 𝑓𝑜𝑟 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑝𝑒𝑟𝑓𝑒𝑐𝑡 𝑤𝑎𝑣𝑒 𝑡𝑜 𝑐𝑜𝑚𝑒 𝑐𝑟𝑎𝑠ℎ𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑖𝑛𝑡𝑜 𝑚𝑒.“

What struck me most is how real the characters felt, Breezy, Kai and Chase— each so unique and I loved their growth. The inner voice of the main characters gave an extra depth to the story. I was not prepared for this plot, the heart gripping suspense— you know the kind that makes you want to skip to the end... NOT ADVISED— but gahhhhh, plot twist after plot twist was mind blowing 🤯🤯 it was a beautiful kind of messy, I don’t think anything could’ve prepared me for it— this book delves deep into friendships, family life, and relationships and while there are trigger warnings, the sensitivity of the authors’ writing is telling of well written this book is.

I started and finished this book in one sitting. I write this as my eyes are dropping from lack of sleep to simply say what a book!

That ending was not at all what I expected it to be, so very good job on that twist.

I enjoyed reading about the FMCs character growth.

I originally thought this book would be RH but I'm so glad it wasn't. I love the relationship between Kai and Breeze. Chase is a douchnozzle in a way that's not endearing and I'm glad she gets over her high school crush on him.
I would have like more intensity with Kai and Breezes relationship but it was pretty good.

    I definitely recommend.

This book is a must read, I've been reading some sub par books lately so when I started this, I was so glad to finally have myself ensnared by the first few pages again and, stayed up until the early hours until I couldn't fight it anymore. There's nothing I live more than a complex romantic story mixed with suspense and angst, it makes for a juicy sitting. I wiukd like to say a well done to the authors for the way they wrote breeze. There's usually always a part of a book when it comes to the heroine where she flusters or bumbles or gets awkward around a guy and it infuriates me, as much I might love the character when authors go with that particular trope, you know the one, where she just can't help herself despite no reason beyond looks to like a guy?. Yeah breeze isn't that. Is she shy? Yes, does she blush? Also yes, but this girl has spirit, and no matter the things going on she really does stay true to herself and intuition and puts her wellbeing first, well, aside from the drama she's trying to figure out. I'd seen some reviews when I first checked this book out talking abiut how chase was awful to her bla bla, and yes he made some questionable choices that I didnt like, however that paved the way for their solid friendship and for kai (unintentionly) I liked the pacing and the steady build of revelations, however the reason for 4 stars is because that last epilogue was a bit of a doozy! And I'm like what?! I'm trying to be vague here when I say, I have good instincts because I suspected what came to light, from the beginning, in terms of who was the mystery guy. Not the epilogue bit though and ive noticed there's a story on that somewhere...not sure if I want it though because it doesn't end well. Obviously. I think I would've liked 'the taboo situation' a bit more explored just to understand what was going through their minds as I dont know if it was love or lust given the reaction to his wife.. and why kai even became part of the erm, equation? I mean we can sit and draw conclusions but, you know I want it ironed out because I'm nosy. I would very much like chases book and to see what the deal is there. And if they actually find out the FULL TRUTH
