4.2 out of 5 stars 459 ratings

The first time she saw him, she knew she was in trouble.
Alexis Taft fills her days and nights working to pay off her mother's medical debts and put her sister through college. She doesn't have time for fun or men. Her life is predictable if boring, that is until she meets Jack. Then life is anything but predictable.

The first time he saw her, he knew he wanted to make her his.
Handsome, wealthy, powerful, Jackson Cole could have any woman he wants and often does, that is until he sets his sights on Alexis. With her unsurpassed beauty, he was hooked with just one look from her amber eyes.

Unfortunately, Alexis is the one woman who doesn't fall easily for his charms, and Jack has to do something he's never had to do before. Pursue a woman. However, Jack always gets what he wants, and Alexis soon discovers, she is no exception.

But there's someone else that wants Jack. Someone that would stop at nothing to have him. Someone that wants Alexis out of the way.

And Jack and Alexis have to stop them or lose all chance at happiness.

***This is a full length novel with no cliffhanger. It is part of a series, but each book is a stand alone centering on new main characters. This is a steamy contemporary romance. Due to sex and language, it is recommended for persons over 18.*** HEA ***Note from author***
As of May 28, 2015 I did another edit of Alluring. I can't promise I caught all the grammar issues and typos, but I did catch a lot, so hopefully it makes for an easier read.

Sarah Curtis is a writer of all things romance. She loves nothing more than a sexy alpha male who falls hard for their heroine, almost always in spite of themselves!

A life-long resident of Southern California, Sarah shares her writing den with her childhood sweetheart and very own alpha male. When she’s not writing or dreaming up plotlines you can find her wrangling her plethora of very spoiled felines—she currently has five, yes you read that correctly, furry companions. Sarah is a reader before anything else, and her TBR mountain is higher than Everest. She’s also addicted to watching cooking competitions, especially involving baking! Of her own admission, she rarely cooks, but she’s up for the occasional birthday cake for her children as long as it involves the opening of a box.

Tell you the truth it kinda reminded me of the C.A. Rose/Reynolds type romance novels. So if you like those type books probably like this one. It was entertaining read and it kept me glued to the novel from start to finish. It had so much going on that it just kept me going to see where it was going. Overall good read.

    Spoilers beware. .. thsnks

Basically hero meets heroine and has this instant connection but he doesn't exactly move on it right away. He is a big playboy manwhore that has it all. So upon meeting heroine it's a 180 in personality and behaviors. So we never meet the playboy manwhore, but we hear about it throughout the book from various women heroine is forced into contact with.

Instead we meet the hero that is coming to realize he found the one and it's only matter time before he makes her his. So expect "corney" pick up lines, hero growing possessive and jealous (he doesn't start this way but he keeps getting worst as the relationship progresses ) , sweet moments, sexy times, akward run in with exes, developing relationship and a heroine that slowly becomes super dependent on hero.

It is all real gradual in this story. Hero starts developing strong caveman behaviors he never had before and led to some good get-the-f*-away-from-my-woman moments. Heroine starts of independent and strong but gradually becomes what hero wanted - heroine so dependent on him she ends up being recommend to a shrink. (Okay okay the last part is a stretch but I am telling you all heroine's insecurities, love and near death experience really do a number on her. Wonder how if she would have turned up like that if she had met a normal guy!)

The first half of the book focus on their relationship. Hero very loyal and protective. Heroine never been in a relationship and is very fragile to getting hurt by hero (he has a very bad reputation). So he has to work extra hard to win her over. There was some creepy scenes that were akward as best. (Couple times he would just grab her or just suddenly show up, without warning, and just be all up in her space. She called it "Jack thing"). It ends well at this point as he is definitely moving relationship to where he wants it to be. Heroine really doesn't have a chance. Doe looking at headlights.

Second part book was all about the stalker that is trying eliminate the heroine. It starts of small but like the cliche says "boy that escalated quickly". Hero desperate to keep her safe but realizes all money doesn't matter if he have incompetent people working for you and a determined stalker. All I have to say is hero becomes a nerves wreck (with tears and all) and heroine, who is still insecure in the relationship, determines enough is enough!

So the ending reveals all (was not surprised) and we get an epilogue at the end. I will say hero was a very solid, loyal, stand up guy for the heroine. Like really good book boyfriend material. I know he had lots exes but didn't bother me as I have read this before in books and expect my hero to make it clear who he belongs with, which this hero does (very nicely). Heroine was insecure from beginning to end. She was very fragile at times and hero was good with her (treated her with baby gloves). Safe read. No cheating. I read it on my Kindle Unlimited but bought it to re read. Enjoyed it.

Alluring is a standalone romance with a little bit of suspense thrown in to add some spice. First up, I want to say how much I love the cover! It is hot and I couldn’t move away from it.

Now, onto the main characters: I liked them. I liked Alexis as the heroine. She was strong, resilient and she had been through a lot of life knocks. I liked that she didn’t complain and she just got on with it. Jack was also interesting, although I don’t think we got a deep look into his past as much. I mean, he took over his father’s business, but was that what he truly wanted to do? And what did that exactly mean? Other than him mentioning some meetings, it seemed low stress. What I did love was that they were both adults. They were open with their communication, and some easy to fall into drama was avoided by just having them talk. That was refreshing. Alexis’ trust issues were maybe a little drawn out, but given her past it wasn’t unexpected. I thought Jack was incredibly patient and forgiving with her. And the two of them together had great sexual chemistry. Those moments were definitely steamy. And I loved how Alexis kept calling out Jack throughout the entire story about his cheesy lines. That was a fun touch.

Slight spoiler here: I liked the stalker aspect, but I didn’t like the resolution. The person it ended up being was so obvious that it was a huge disappointment when it was revealed. And the way Alexis was able to delay her was comical. I mean, there is a reason in movies that people scoff when the bad guy gives a huge speech instead of getting on with it. It felt like an easy out. And there were perhaps some holes in that whole storyline. How did that person know how to avoid the cameras when near the gym? And for that matter, why were there even blind spots? And when Alexis was almost run over in the garage, were there no cameras there either? And she has security with her everywhere except when walking alone to her car in a garage? Did they even look into who left the envelope at the front desk when no one could say how the letter was dropped off on the Sunday? I mean, surely a camera got that, right? And I feel like a billionaire could afford more than one PI who was clearly getting nowhere. Couldn’t he just stick one on every suspect for the entire time? It’s not like he would have missed the money.

Onto secondary characters: I really liked Steph. I loved her friendship with Alexis and I am so grateful that wasn’t messed around with. I love reading about women supporting each other, and this friendship gave me the warm fuzzies inside. Jack’s friend Mason was another story. I liked him, I liked his banter and I liked how he enjoyed messing with Jack. You could feel a true connection between the two. What I didn’t love was how he spoke about women. When he called Jack up to get the number of Alexis, since he figured he would be done with her and Mason wanted a go, that didn’t exactly endear me to him. That was a pretty gross thing to do. And he was only sorry because he didn’t realize Jack actually liked her. So you can imagine the way that conversation likely would have went, and was insinuated that it probably did go in the past, if Jack wasn’t into Alexis.

I was also a little alarmed at the fact that Alexis being constantly harassed by men was somewhat normalized in this book. No didn’t mean no to these men, or to Jack for that matter. And in some ways it was sort of shrugged off as being what happens to women when they go out. Luckily for Alexis, she had Jack/security looking out for her for some of that, but most women don’t get that luxury. I’m not sure if it upsets me more that this book has it so normalized, that Alexis even rushes to tell Jack that she didn’t encourage the men, like it could ever be her fault, or that it likely is a normalized event in this world we live in. When a man says no it means no. When a woman says no, it means she’s open for negotiation. Her voice was not heard once to these men, and that grossed me out. There was no insight given to this. It was in there to be used as a way for Jack to feel jealous, but that was it. How can a woman feel safe, a woman want to put herself into situations where this apparently happens every time, and not feel some sort of apprehension of that? Not feel fear when a strange man comes up to her? When she was only just recently drugged and almost raped, but is happily ready to walk back into that club again so soon afterward? When it is explained about pushy men in the past for Alexis, it is said that usually she is forced to dance with these men just to appease them. That she has to take their number just so they will stop harassing her. These things is enough to make me want to avoid going out (which is what I do nowadays and why my 20’s were mild at best). Why did Alexis keep putting herself out there? What was her reasoning?

Final thoughts: I did enjoy this book. I read it in one sitting and that tells me that I was hooked. I would recommend to romance readers who enjoy the trope of an alpha billionaire falling for the poor woman, who like things to get steamy, and want some suspense/mystery thrown in through the stalker storyline. This book finishes off neatly and is a standalone. Although some of the secondary characters do have their own books, this can be read alone with no issues.

The story was sweet enough. Alexis was a bit annoying, she was a bit too insecure for my tastes. Overall I liked the story.

The most annoying thing about this book was the amount of typos and randomly placed commas. This book desperately need a proofreader.

The writing is OK for a debut book, I expect that the writer will develop more over time.

I could be persuaded to buy another book by this author, but only if it has been through a proofreader.

I read Alluring a few months ago and decided to read it again. I loved this book the first time and loved it even more the second time! Every minute of it! I finished reading it in one sitting.

I love love love Jack! He has to be one of the sexiest men out there! The story mainly revolved around Alexis and Jackson's love story with a bit of suspense, action and drama. The perfect combination that fit my reading preferences. The chemistry and passion between the MC was steamy hot and you could feel through the story every single touch, lick and kiss between them. And I loved how they handled one another.

"You are the breath I need to breathe. I live for you, Alexis. Without you, I am nothing."

Sarah Curtis did great and she captured my attention from the first page till the end.

I fully recommend this book and can’t wait to read Mase’s story (book 3 in the Alluring Series).
