Caleb is the lover you immediately to forget and he has been for two-hundred years, ever since he forgot the name of a warlock he’d slept with. Ethan doesn’t know how to react when his friend gives him Caleb’s card and tells him one night with the man will help him find his true love. All he has to do is spend a night with Caleb and then forget him as men always do. But one night with Caleb isn’t enough for Ethan. He doesn’t want to meet some nebulous “true love.” He wants Caleb, despite the fact that he forgets him as soon as they’re apart.
I very much enjoyed this fluffy paranormal. Ethan’s determination to overcome the obstacle of his memory and Caleb’s decision to take the risk of being hurt give it just the right amount of emotional heft. The pacing is perfect for the length and the HEA satisfying. It’s well worth a read!
- Reviewed in the United States on June 22, 2019“Unforgettable, that's what you are...near or far... the thought of you does things to me... forever more, that's how you'll stay. That's why, darling, it's incredible, that someone so unforgettable, thinks that I am unforgettable too.” ~ Nat King Cole (Unforgettable)
Ethan, of ‘Always Forgotten’ by L.M. Brown, is tired of the bar scene. He is ready to settle down but, so far, hasn’t had any luck finding someone. In an effort to help, his best friend tells him about a man, Caleb, who, when men sleep with him, find their soulmates shortly afterward. Ethan is skeptical, but agrees to let his friend set up an appointment for him.
Just in case he forgets Caleb, Ethan leaves himself a message, explaining that they are scheduled to have an encounter and why. Still not sure about it, he goes to the appointment. When Ethan first sees Caleb, he is stunned. Caleb is one of the most handsome, sexy men Ethan has ever seen. Caleb recognizes Ethan’s reluctance to engage. Ethan admits that his best friend made the appointment for him. Still not believing it all, but intrigued, Ethan stays.
Caleb explains that he was cursed by a vindictive warlock who did not take rejection well. For two hundred years, Caleb has been hoping to find someone who will not forget him after a night together. He has been waiting for all those years, for a man to come back in the room after he left Caleb’s presence. Ethan is flabbergasted, but is touched by Caleb’s despair and decides to stay.
Caleb has been with a lot of men and is quite skilled in seduction, but past experience has taught him not to engage emotionally. Being with Ethan feels different and, try as he may, he can’t help from hoping that things will be different this time. When Caleb expresses this wish to Ethan, Caleb reminds him that, most likely, it will not happen. In a last-ditch effort to preserve the memory of their night together, Ethan leaves himself another message. Caleb takes the phone away from him and leaves his own message along with Ethan’s on his answering machine. After a passionate, amazing night, it is time for Ethan to leave. Caleb hopes beyond reason that Ethan will remember him and come back in the door. Anxiously Caleb waits, but Ethan doesn’t return.
Except for the curses, warlock, a two-hundred-year-old man who hasn’t aged, and all the other supernatural things, this story reminds me of the movie ‘Fifty First Dates.’ The female main character was in a car accident and has no short-term memory. She meets a man whom she doesn’t remember the next day. Their efforts to help her not forget him are similar to Ethan and Caleb’s attempts to stay connected. Due to a lot of ingenuity, both couples overcome the obstacles involved and end up together. Thanks, L.M., for the engaging paranormal love story. Originally reviewed at Rainbow Book Reviews.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 27, 2019This book certainly had an interesting concept. Ethan and Caleb’s initial interaction was described in such a clinical way that it was difficult to see why Ethan was bonding with Caleb. It could have been great if there had been some emotional moments during the beginning to show them connecting so that we could feel it. I loved the middle portion of the book because it showed their love for each other. Unfortunately, the end kind of petered out. The resolution was pretty lame and needed more relationship development.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 25, 2019The blurb and premise were fantastic so I was terribly disappointed with the end result. The characters were so robotic this was almost painful to read. I struggled to find any chemistry between them, even the sex seemed forced. *Kindle Unlimited Review*
