Superficial Intelligence: A Novel Kindle Edition

4.3 out of 5 stars 26 ratings

Same old story. Some dude in a Toyota Tacoma hit me with his car, and now I have these super awesome robot legs. Legs which are directly responsible for my meteoric rise to fame as a reality TV robot.

Do I alienate some people along the way? Obviously.
Do I get addicted to replacing body parts? Oh, yeah.
Do I toy with the idea of killing all humans? Listen, I don’t go through with it. That’s got to count for something.

As I fight to stay relevant, you can decide for yourself whether I’m the next step in human evolution or just another hilarious narcissist with a TV show.

-Your Benevolent Narrator-

★★★★"Greg Alesso must sit around and think to himself, 'How can I take something that really shouldn't be funny at all and push it so far past the limits of ridiculousness that it's not even remotely serious anymore?' At least, that's one possible way that this book came into existence..." - Jesse Owen (Reedsy Discovery)

Gregory Alesso is a humorist, fiction writer, and author of the new book Superficial Intelligence. He has had his comedy articles published across several well-known humor publications (Slackjaw, Points in Case, Weekly Humorist), which are accessible on his personal website comedicramblings.com. Gregory often writes fictional satire about what he knows best: judging society and being a narcissist. His latest work is a fast-paced, first-person POV story that seamlessly integrates absurdist humor into a story about uncontrolled ego.

Gregory's began working as an electrical engineer out of college, but it wasn't providing the attention he required so he decided to pursue his dream of writing. He often sites Chandler Bing as his most reliable adult presence growing up, which is something that really offends his mother.

I found myself smiling and laughing out loud often. I thought the concept of becoming a robot was creative yet not too far of a stretch from reality. The narcissistic point of view gave the book a humorous and refreshing narrative. Overall I really enjoyed the book. The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is I’m a sucker for happy endings.

This book was fantastic. I read it because I was 100% obligated to because my friend's brother (I've never met his brother, this is an online friend) wrote it. So I bought it knowing I HAD to, obviously not because I wanted to. Upon receiving the book I attempted to absorb all the contents by glancing at the cover, turning it over in my hands a couple times, and even balancing it directly on my head (standing upright of course). When none of these superior methods didn't work, I opened it and actually *read* the pages (I know, the horror). Fortunately the words were enticing enough that I blinked and it was over (not really, it took a week, I read it at work during slow periods). Speaking of enticing, you should really learn about this narrator's life, it's fantastic. He is incredibly funny, smart, handsome, and the best role model. I've always strived to be a narcissist and he hits it on the nose! Diving further into this incredible guide to life I had to stifle a ton of laughter so as to not get any weird looks from the tissue box on the counter (there are usually no other persons in my work area so I am forced to personify objects and act like they judge me harshly).

What can I say, I loved every aspect of the novel! The story about this man's life is hilarious with a ton of irony and dry humor which fits incredibly well from the perspective of a narcissist. I absolutely recommend the book, 5 stars.

Really fun read front to back! Witty jokes throughout, and a storyline to keep you reading chapter after chapter. In a short read you're able to dive shallowly into the very surface level world of reality television, then unknowingly pulled to the bottom of the pool by the heavy, introspective questions like "what does it mean to be human?" Great work from a first time author and can't wait to see what their next project is!

First off, I love a short book. I feel good about myself when reading an entire book in a few sittings. Putting that aside, I enjoyed Superficial Intelligence as a blend of light-hearted thought experiment, narrative sidebars and one liners to keep you smiling as you read.
