Winston - A Horse's Tale: For horse lovers from teenagers upwards! Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 18 ratings

One for horse lovers! Winston is a good-looking palomino horse whose life involves several different owners and many adventures. As you read his story, told by Winston himself, you will appreciate horse ownership from the horse’s point of view. Born on a country property in Australia, Winston tells of his breaking-in and education and the different people he encounters – good, bad and ignorant. As well as his own story, Winston includes the experiences of other horses he meets along life’s way.

Whether it’s jumping, eventing, hunting or just hacking, Winston tries hard to please his rider. Follow his successes and his failures from his breaking-in to his show jumping win. It is an eventful life – the story of one Australian horse out of thousands, but one that you will remember.

About the Author

I was born in the UK and migrated to Australia in my early twenties. It was only when I retired to Queensland that I wrote my first novel "Missing in Egypt" which was self-published on Amazon as an ebook in March 2012 and more recently as a paperback and Large Print Edition. My second book "Winston - a Horse's Tale" is about a horse called Winston - his life, his owners and his adventures. It is one for horse lovers. Winston's story came easily to me from my lifelong love of horses. Winston's experiences and those of the friends he makes along the way, are based on personal knowledge and observation.

I was born in the UK and migrated to Australia in my early twenties. It was only when I retired that I wrote my first novel.

This fulfilled a lifelong ambition for me. In primary school I wrote long stories but since then my writing had been restricted to business correspondence, press releases and letters home to my family!

The Anna Davies Mystery series comprises five books - Missing in Egypt, Missing at Sea, Missing in London, Missing in France and Missing in Australia.

Winston - A Horse's Tale tells the story of an Australian horse's life. Told by Winston himself it relates his experiences, as well as those of other horses he meets on life's way. It is for horse lovers of all ages, from teenagers upwards and is a book I was passionate about writing.

Dangerous Liaisons and The Poinciana Tree are crime mysteries. Murder at the Tennis Club, a DI Mark Williamson Detective Story, is a new genre for me.

I have also written three children's books: The Unicorn Angel, My Very Naughty Pony and Frankie - The Unicorn Who Couldn't Fly.

Most of my books are also available in a Large Print edition.

"Winston - A Horse's Tale" is precisely what the cover tells you it is. Rita Lee Chapman has shared a thoughtful story of what a horse's life is like, spanning a good 20 years.

"Winston - A Horse's Tale" is set in Australia, which you can enjoy in the writing. You can hear the accent in a delightful way as Winston describes different owners, what they expect from him, and how his life changes over the years. I particularly enjoyed his relationships with other horses.

I recommend this book for all ages.

A modern Black Beauty, Winston really tells a genuine horse's tale, reflecting the average life of a horse the world over. Winston's story is set in Australia, but animal lovers everywhere will recognise similar joys and plights of the equines they're aware of. Usually the plights are down to the ignorance of horse owners rather than intentional cruelty and the author highlights how important knowledge is before embarking on any animal ownership. The simple things overlooked become serious neglect. Winston encounters many of the problems faced by horses, as well as some unique to Australia and bringing with them gripping drama. Anyone thinking of buying their first horse should read this first! The author clearly has a great understanding of horses and Winston manages to convey this to the reader, educating while entertaining.
