Idols and Enemies (Amplifier Book 4) Kindle Edition

4.7 out of 5 stars 715 ratings

I knew that opening the letter from the sorcerer Azar would have deadly consequences.
So we had prepared.
We’d planned.
We knew we might have to defend ourselves, our freedom. And that I might finally get a chance to exact the revenge I kept telling myself I wasn’t interested in exacting.
What we didn’t know was that we’d find ourselves hosting a dysfunctional family reunion — the kind where everyone tries to kill someone at least once over dinner.
Sorcerers and witches.
With me in the middle.
Mediating.
I could wipe a small city from the face of the earth. I could vanquish a horde of demons with only two shortswords. I could infiltrate a magically fortified compound without detection, stand against black witches, and defy even those capable of manipulating minds.
What I couldn’t do was mediate a family squabble that stretched back decades, replete with kidnapping, magical coercion, and rape.
Or I couldn’t mediate with words, at least. Thankfully, though, draining everyone of their magic was always an option.

I read the first three books in this series very quickly, adoring each one. Then I decided to save this one for a rainy day, and I’m glad I did. The series is as good as I remembered—maybe better—and I think it is my favorite fantasy series.

It has a different pace than so many urban fantasy romance books—it’s more thoughtful and introverted. The protagonist Emma misses nothing, and there is so much subtext to everyone’s words and actions.

The plot of this one was delightful — getting to see more of Aidan’s family and the development of the relationship with Kader Azar.

    Phenomenal.

Idols and Enemies (Amplifier Book 4) by Meghan Ciana Doidge

I love this fourth book in the Amplifier series, and can’t recommend all of the books enough, No m/m or f/f love, but these lab created super-beings trained as assassins and now making their own way in the world while facing evil witches and sorcerers are always a lot of fun. The writing is beautiful and the main character a badass woman who’s trying to be good for goodness sake! In this book a seemingly mild mannered witch seeks revenge on the sorcerer who wronged her and she doesn’t care who she hurts in the process.

Are ocean and Grosvenor going to become regulars? The stories are becoming more intense. Possession and demi-gods. Will there be more?

Emma and Aiden in a dysfunctional family reunion is excellent. Paisley stole the show on more than one occasion. The book took this story line in a completely new/unexpected direction. I loved watching MCD slowly weave Emma's story line to the Dowser/Mory story lines. It is clever, fun and heart warming (if not nail biting). Exactly the wonderfully rich writing (that had us all consuming cupcakes and now ginger snaps and team) we have come to know and love from MCD. An absolute must read and don't plan for anything else while you do!

I have read this series a few times now. Just have to go back and enjoy it again once in a while when it’s so good. Book 4 in the Amplifier series by Meghan Ciana Doidge. This book brings Aiden’s family from both sides into Emma’s life including one of the big baddies from the “Collective”. With Christopher away from Emma for the first time, Emma and Aiden must navigate through family drama on epic proportions.

There's all sorts of goodies in this next chapter of Emma and the five. Aidens family causes a ruckus and tests Emma's restraint to not kill them all and Paisley has picked up some new skills. We get to see the beginnings of a crossover with the Godfrey coven and learn more about the academy. I swear Meghan gets more creative as the individual series goes on. Just when you think you know what's gonna happen she pulls out something else. Another absolute must read!

I can't say enough how much I love this author's writing. The story flows effortlessly while still having enough twists and turns to keep it surprising and fresh. Especially love the connection she weaves between the main characters and some sort of food item LOL cupcakes or tea. I Can't Get Enough of this author!

Loved the 4th book in this series. It pulls in all the previous Amplifier books nicely and gives more detail and insight into Emma and Aiden’s pasts: what and who made them what they are today. Meghan keeps you entertained and anticipating what could possibly happen next. Meghan once again pulls in little snippets from her other series to pull her books together and leaving you wanting more connections between her characters from all her series.

May I just say fricking awesome!!!

The build up to this Sorcerer showdown with Aiden and his father had had me bring my nails. Hubsters like it's a frickin BOOK!! I looked at him appalled 😮

Add in his brothers, sisters, cousin and mother you know it's going to be an epic smack down 😉

Emma must face one of the Collective on her own turf and invite him in.

I adore all the characters in this series, but Madam Paisley has my heart 💖💖 her antics make me lol.

This series, IMHO, isn't just about magic, it's also about Emma finding out who she is and what sort of person she's becoming after escaping the Collectives grasp.

I just love all Meghan's books. Engaging, readable and just great they way she connects all her series together. Don't start with this one read the lot - they will cheer you up in these dreary times. Not saying anything about the plot because I hate spoilers!!
