**An IPPY bronze medal winner for romance 2023**
Are love and affection enough to overcome the pain of grief and anger?

In the spring of 1812, Elizabeth and Lydia are the only Bennet daughters still unmarried after the death of their father. Elizabeth’s health and spirits worsen as she moves among relations as an unwanted, dependent sister. She returns to Mary and Mr Collins at Longbourn to learn that the neighbourhood gossip centres on the reclusive Mr Darcy.

Darcy and his sister live an isolated life in a small rented lodge near Netherfield after the events at Ramsgate. As Georgiana’s health is failing, Darcy has his own regrets to bear. He tries to keep them secluded, but a young woman arrives who is determined to befriend his lonely, ill sister.

When Elizabeth receives disastrous news, she makes a daring plan to find happiness for herself while she still can. Misunderstandings and secrets abound for them both but in the end, Darcy and Elizabeth will find greater strength together than they ever had apart.

IPPY bronze medal winner for romance 2023

A From Pemberley to Milton Favorite Read of 2022. "The slowly built power of each scene and dialogue, along with the heartfelt moments lived by every character made this a memorable book!"

Austenesque Reviews Favorite Read 2022 and Austenesque Reviews Reader's Choice Winner 2022 "This story is exquisite in every way, but especially the depth of feeling and romance."

"An Affectionate Heart is a powerful, intense, and well written book that is not easily forgotten. The reader is transported into the story and cannot help to feel the raw emotions that the characters are feeling. It has character development, depth, and it is a tale that approaches the many different shapes of love, grief, hope and respect. I highly recommend this book to all readers and consider it a must read for austenesque fans."
Rita Deodato From Pemberley to Milton 5 stars

Readers who love sensitive and stirring tales about Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth will find much to adore and appreciate with this one! I most enthusiastically recommend!"
Meredith Esparza Austenesque Reviews 5 stars

Heather Moll wrote engaging characters that were easy to connect with [...] The suspense in the story was intense, and the romance element added to my need to keep reading. I recommend anyone that enjoys a realistic romance story that is filled with drama to read An Affectionate Heart. I know this book will be one of my favorites to read multiple times.

A beautiful revisit of the famous novel
❤️‍🩹 An Affectionate Heart ❤️‍🩹A Pride and Prejudice Variation✒️ Heather Moll🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟Will they be forever contented with only the bargain they made for the safety of their common interest ….When I am sick, I never made friend with the humid Corsican weather, I usually reverse to read a favorite book or settle for a tale I will know from the beginning to bring out the right comforting sentiments. And as the upcoming release date for this one is not so far away, I was happy to discover this version of the infamous Austen’s masterpiece. My only regret is my foggy brain will not be able to give the right Justice to this book. Even more when I checked before my read the few informations I found about this book.I did not know Montgomery’s The Blue Castle, so I googled it and found I have read McCullough’s retelling, The Ladies of Missalonghi in my early twenties without knowing of its inspiration.A book I still remember decades later, quite a feat.So it was with this kind of contentment of a good moment in front of me that I settled on the couch with this new read. This is a longer book than I expected, even more for my foggy brain, but I devoured it and loved it. It has everything to be a read to remember like its distinguished parent. And even when knowing where the plot would lead the tormented heroes, I wondered how the author would bring them together, and how everything would unfold.Elizabeth is a mere shadow of her witty full quips self, she struggles swung from one sibling’s home to another, always reminded she is the poor useless kin, belittled for simply breathing and existing simply because she “failed” to marry.Darcy is a man tortured by his guilt and his need to exert revenge for his sister’s ill treatment. And while still a devoted brother, he is eaten in the inside by his secrets, as Lizzie is by her abusive family. When they first meet is still under the omens of each finding the other’s disagreeable for the forsaken future, but united in their love for Darcy’s sister, Georgiana, they set a pace.Darcy is still the proud man he is well known to be, passing judgement (with some reasons) on Elizabeth’s relatives, but able also to make the difference between those faulty of meanness and others of carelessness without intention of hurting. Elizabeth is ore subdued but her fast mind is never far, even when she is obligated by her circumstances to restrain herself from retorting.Still, when together, they can be themselves, sharing their pain, expressing their sorrows. But when secrets are revealed and conditions change, will the burgeoning sentiments between them shatter or be strong enough to weather these new developments.I love how every detail was brought together to paint this elaborated revisit of two great stories all the while being fair to the heroes and giving them the closure they both needed before the beginning of the rest of their life.An epilogue would have been most welcome, but it is only me and my love for an insight of the future beyond the famous They lived happily ever after.5 stars𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹 sweet onscreen lovemaking scenes.

I rarely read P&P variations that stray from the original premise, but I am so glad I read this one! Its theme and premise are quite somber but handled with such emotional sincerity that the story is profoundly pleasant to read.

Some familiar characters are quite cruel here, and their villainy serves the story well. On the other hand, Mrs. Bennet has a small role but does something remarkably kind that pricked my heart. Even Lydia occasionally has more sense than expected, though she still cares more about ribbons and red coats than anything else.

Watching this iteration of Lizzie and Darcy come together was worth every turn of the page, and their eventual happily ever after is hard-won and deeply satisfying. Highly recommend this story!

These well sketched characters in miserable situations.
Mary and mr collins are such pedantic, miserly masters of longbourne that they make even mrs bennet and lydia look good!
Lizzy can only escape by visiting jane’s establishment where she is tyrannized by jane’s overbearing mother-in-law.
Then she befriends the secretive and scandalous new tenants of the netherfield gatehouse - darcy and a consumptive, post-natal georgianna.
ODC travel an agonizing but satisfying story arc.

I read this book, prepared for angst and tragedy. I got both, Mr Bennet is dead and his family is left to fend for themselves. All the girls except Lizzy and Lydia are married. Elizabeth, in this story, is not frolicking about, laughing at everything. She is depressed, angry and lonely. Darcy and Georgiana (I’ll call her GD) are in the neighbourhood, Lizzy ends up befriending GD. I could swallow and even empathise with Lizzy’s situation. But GD’s was beyond me. What were they even doing in Meryton? Darcy was rich and well connected, they could have gone in the wilderness with servants, if they wanted. Lizzy doesn’t know about Darcy’s status and wealth for most of the book, which means his arrogance and horrible manners have no excuse. I couldn’t stand him and was relieved that he began to change halfway through. I wish that the climax had come earlier, I was more interested in the aftermath of Darcy and Lizzy’s marriage. I liked how the Bennets, including Lizzy, were portrayed in this book. It was interesting and believable. The Darcys, not so much

I highly recommend this book, with the caveat that it is extremely melancholy and depressing.

The writing is excellent, and many of the character changes from canon are welcome. I am unutterably sad for Jane, though.

This is a very different Darcy and Elizabeth -- tragedy makes them much more complex beings than we are used to. Any comedy is of the bittersweet variety.

Miss Elizabeth Bennet knew her fate. Her father had died two years prior of angina. her current heart pains, gripping, excruciating and oft paralyzing, would surely lead to the same death as her father. since his death, she was rotated as the spinster-sister, to the homes of her 3 married sisters, each vexing stay adding to her melancholy and sick feelings. a visit to the Meryton apothecary all but confirmed her demise in but a few short months. as a woman, dependent upon others for her every need, Elizabeth felt more than loss. she felt such deep despair that her 21 years had no success she could point to, no deep love she could credit. parallel to her life's woes, were those of a pair, a brother and sister, Mr. Darcy and sister Georgiana, who had taken up refuge in Netherfield lodge. not just refuge, but recluse. Georgiana was dying of consumption. her youth was literally wasting away from the disease. and so, as Providence would allow, the three would find each other, and somehow, lift each other from the reality of their pains. Elizabeth would find a higher path to take to her own end - she would be a comfort to the dying Georgiana. but it would take a leap from social proprieties for Elizabeth to meet her new calling. and she would take that leap and offer what she could to a "sister" in misery, while each approached her own life's end. Darcy would allow it - unwillingly. but death would come and take its toll. and the two left would be grief stricken and retreat into their own heart's sorrow. if only Darcy and Elizabeth could be a consolation to the other. but that would take time, angry words, silence, mortification and the overwhelming feeling of isolation in each other's company. oh, death, where is thy victory? oh, death, where is thy sting? maybe death's victory could be challenged. maybe a heart's pain could be eased. could there be a cure? Darcy and Elizabeth might just seek another opinion. oh, just ask the Love Doctor. Heather Moll - great story - thank you!

I enjoyed every minute of this variation and the writing and editing are excellent. I had only one slight problem with this darker version of our favourites story but will leave it to others as to whether they would feel the same. Would definitely read this author again as well as reread this variation.
