- Reviewed in the United States on June 30, 2023Format: KindleVerified PurchaseA new, to me, author. I’ll be looking for more books in the series! A murder brings a new partner and friendship! Then another one and yet another. Are they connected? How could they be? Searching for the truth will have consequences!
- Reviewed in the United States on August 22, 2024Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThe well written story line presented a messy, complex case. Even with Sheriff, Police Department, FBI & US Marshalls ion the job, the solution-when the case was finally resolved-was not clean nor tidy. Still the book kept me involved to the end. Great read!
- Reviewed in the United States on September 25, 2024Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThoroughly enjoyed this story, with believable plot lines and NO typos. A real pleasure. Looking forward to the next one. The title though throws me. I don't get it.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 8, 2021Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI think this is the the last of the series. There is a novella after this one witch I'll read next. I hope the author comes up with another one in the series. This one was hard to take because of the characters that get you connected to the storyline. I got the telling that he was building a relationship that would last thru many stories but he did a change up. I'm not going to give it away so you'll have to read the book to find out what happened. Thanks for all the entertainment.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 11, 2023Format: KindleStory line/plot was good-------------However, was there a book missing between #3 An American Bullet and #4 An American King???? At the end of An American Bullet Whicher was not even seeing/dating anyone yet at the beginning of An American King he was married and had a 3 yr old daughter. So we are missing more than 4 years of Whicher's life-----What the Heck
- Reviewed in the United States on April 18, 2021Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI enjoy reading a series of books featuring strong characters like Reacher, Doc Ford, Lucas Davenport, Joe Picket, Gabriel Allon, Jesse McDermitt, the Swaggers, and I could go on and on.
Recently I was searching for a series with a backdrop of the modern west and hit pay dirt with the John Whicher series by John Stonehouse. His first of the series, An American Outlaw, grabbed me hook, line, and sinker and I read the rest of series one book after the other. I’m now impatiently waiting for the next Whicher book while feeling like I’ve lost a good friend.
This series is about as good as it gets.

5.0 out of 5 stars Steady but no great surprises
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseWhither continues to be a great Conestoga but is challenged by the allocation of a young partner and the responsibilities of being a husband and father. He is made aware of the fragility of his job and forced to make choices. The vulnerable Whicher is interestingly a fuller character.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gripping crime novel
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseGripping crime novel, latest in the Marshall Whicher series. Love the clipped, Spartan narrative style that perfectly captures the hot, dry Texas landscape and the upright, determined Marshall as he doggedly pursues the killer of an unidentified man. Highly recommended.
