Love is a risk... but a risk worth taking.

JAKE

I knew following my best friend across state lines would change my life… I just wasn’t prepared for how much.

CJ Reyes is not what I expect when I show up for a blind date—and neither is our chemistry. The fire with him is unlike anything I’ve ever felt before, both in and out of the bedroom. His fun attitude and sexy sapphire eyes are breaking through the walls around my heart, and for the first time in my life, I’m not running away. But with desire comes fear. Are the dangers of my career worth the risk of falling in love, or should I leave now to spare everyone the pain?

REYES

After being cut from the Mexico soccer team, I accept a temporary coaching position in South Carolina, hoping it would give me a break. The reprieve doesn't come easy, though, when my family begins pestering me about my future. I wish I had answers, but all I seem to find are more questions… especially when it comes to the smooth talking police officer who keeps showing up in my bed. Our fiery nights and growing friendship are just what I need to move on. Maybe there are things worth more than winning a world championship.

But when an opportunity arises that could change my life forever, I discover Jake might not be all in. He doesn’t want the same things I do, and that terrifies me even more than being cut from the team.

I am an Idaho native who grew up dreaming about traveling the world and writing stories. I would often spend my spare time curled up with my favorite blanket and a notebook, writing another fairy tale. I never would have guessed those fairy tales would one day grow into gay romances, but that is where my heart led me and I am so glad it did. I write about love because I believe it can happen to anyone, with anyone. I also believe dreams never expire, redemption is possible, and true forgiveness can heal us in ways we never expect. I know firsthand how messy life can get, but as any artist will tell you, a little mess is needed to create something beautiful. That’s why I write, to help others see that anything can be beautiful. You can often find me with a mug of coffee in one hand and a dog toy in the other. There is never a day that goes by without my sweet boy insisting on a game - or twenty - of fetch.

This book is completely different from the first book in the series, but still just as good. Flowing along in Jake's journey of love and family made my heart swell in joy. Granted, there were times when I was cringing with the way Jake was thinking, but it all worked out in the end. I cried during the last few chapters of the book and the Epilogue, but it was a good emotional cleansing kind of crying that I enjoy.

“Yeah. South Carolina is pretty lax in their laws about gay couples adopting,"
This phrase bothers me. Because it should be "relaxed". Unless the author honestly feels that gay couples should not be able to adopt. The way it's written is homophobic in essence. And while it may be a slip it isn't one I can live with.
That said, I enjoyed the characters and the way they felt real in their eactions and the relationship.
The way it was written, simple amd sweet without being flowery, carried the story well.

This is my first book by this author and I loved it! I added the first book of this series to my ever growing TBR list immediately after reading the final word of Jake and Reyes' story. I adored them and their friends/family, connections they each tried to pretend they neither needed or wanted for reasons that basically came down to fear. Reyes was afraid of an uncertain future after the loss of what he believed to be his sole dream and goal in life, and dealing with his overbearing family didn't help. Jake was afraid of letting someone in only to leave them behind in a permanent way and cause them pain. If it weren't for meddling friends they never would've met, and they never had a chance once they did. They truly fit together, and got more than they bargained for in the end. I lost count of how many times I laughed or my heart melted at sweet moments. There were also a few times I wanted to smack sense into them. I'm excited to see what else is in store for this series.

This is a sweet and lovely story. I love how quickly Rey and Jake mesh, even when they are fighting their attraction and connection. Throw a kid into the mix and things get messy.

I lived this guest book, but this one might be my new favorite.

Very enjoyable, touching story with good characters and a rather mellow plot. I liked this a lot, especially Rey.

And Then You is the second book in the Against All Odds Series. This one focuses on Jake, Beckett's bachelor friend that helps out in book 1, who has moved to Reedsport and and joined the Police Force there, and Reyes (Rey), a man who was cut from the Mexico Professional Soccer team due to injuries. When Rey's family doesn't accept his career is over, he decides to join his friend coaching at a soccer clinic in Reedsport. Jake and Rey get put on a blind date together and while they enjoyed each other, it was supposed to be a single date. Will they stop seeing each other or will they decide that the chemistry is too strong to ignore?

This book is a good follow-up to Beckett's and Riley's story. I love that this story had very little angst and was well developed story with some heat! It made for a good read after a long day! You can't help but fall in love with the characters and wish you were there with them. Can't wait for more!

This is a love story about 2 radically different men who meet & fall in love in a very unexpected way. Reyes, an injured Mexican soccer superstar & Jake, a policeman with commitment issues, find their way to a totally, unexpected life together ultimately filled with so much love.
All of the characters were so well written. And surprisingly while I am not much of soccer fan, I found myself rather enthralled by the impact it had on Reyes' & Jake's love story.
Oh, while this is a book 2 in a series, I hadn't read book 1, Back to You prior to reading And Then You. This book works well as a standalone. Now I'm off to read book 1 because it sounds rather interesting.

I’ve been anticipating this sequel to Beckett and Riley’s story, as Jake was intriguing as Beckett’s perpetual bachelor friend. He’s moved to Reedsport and joined the force, enjoying his change to small-town life. Reyes has been cut from the professional soccer team he played for in Mexico, due to injuries and being replaced. Worse, his family can’t seem to accept that his career is over. So he joins his friend Rome to coach at his soccer clinic. A joke blind date puts Jake and Reyes together and sparks fly but it was only supposed to be once. I liked the characters quite well, although I couldn’t quite get a handle on certain issues each one had. I couldn’t see, or missed seeing, what was behind Jake’s noticeable discomfort with kids. Reyes family issues were sort of vague and why he didn’t just put his foot down was puzzling, but that all only distracted me a little.

I enjoyed the progress and realistic pacing of their relationship right up until Harrison, the 8 year old. Reyes was just great with the kid and Jake’s slow change of attitude all read authentically enough, as well as being quite heartwarming. But the sequence of events precipitated by Harrison were too rushed to support my suspension of disbelief, considering the time frame. It’s a matter of opinion so take mine with a grain of salt. The story is long and not fast moving but easily read. If you’re a fan of epilogues, this one does provide a solid HEA some months down the road. I found this just steamy enough, with an entertaining plot and an interesting cast and setting.

This is a charming story with very loveable characters. I’s a pleasant way to waste sometime.
My only complaint is that the author includes a lot of detail that is extraneous to the plot. This is obviously an attempt to add living colour to the story but generally it only serves to slow things down.

I enjoyed this just as much as the first book, Back to You. The developing feelings and Jake's struggle and fear of accepting them was hard for Reyes . Watching the walls Jake had built crumble was beautiful. Looking forward to next book.
