Annabelle (Standalone Thriller Novellas) Kindle Edition
Raped and cast out, Annabelle has nothing but hatred and her parasol. But that might be all she needs to get revenge. Setting off into the Old American West alone, she seeks out other young women like herself, then turns their predators into her prey, leaving a trail of bodies in her wake.
But when Annabelle gets attached to Grace, a young woman raising two children sired by her attacker, her careful routine goes out the window, putting both their lives at risk.
Can she save Grace and make it out alive?
Fast-paced and gripping, this tale of vigilante justice showcases the struggles that victims of sexual abuse face and the affects of turning a blind eye.
“Dexter in the Wild West and with feelings is the closest comparison I can come up with, but even that does not do justice to the nuanced layers of morality and story that Bell plays with.” -Sarah Neofield, Author of Number Eight Crispy Chicken

About the author

I'm a nerd with a lot of hobbies and enough sarcasm and swear words to make a sailor blush, though, you'll never hear a word of it if I'm not comfortable around you. I've been an introvert since birth. When I'm writing, though, words come easily.
At the end of the day, I just want to write stories that make people feel something.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 13, 2019Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseAnnabelle is an intense, powerful, beautifully written novella that I read in one sitting - and have frequently thought about since. The story takes place in the Old West but the matters it addresses concern all women today. Annabelle, sexually assaulted, then blamed for it and cast out by her family, sets out to mete out her own brand of justice to women who have suffered as she has. Her backstory is gradually and effectively told in short flashbacks at the beginning of each chapter. Annabelle is a strong, powerful woman but we first meet her when she’s almost at breaking point, questioning her precarious existence and the very state of her mind. Grim, gripping, infuriating and sad, this is a story I’d recommend to everyone.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 18, 2019Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseI recieved this novella in the mail today and proceeded to read the entire thing, cover to cover. Elexis Bell created not only an absolutely perfect story line, but also the most bad ass female main character I have ever read. Annabelle, the mc, is an incredibly powerful woman who goes out and seeks justice for women who have been made a victim to any and all sexual misconduct. This old western story kept me at the edge of my seat from beginning to end. I have already started telling all of my friends about this novella purely because the voice that Elexis has needs to be heard. Her message not only speaks volumes, but tells what ever women who has been traumatized in such a manner has thought about countless times. More people need to hear what Elexis has to say. A MUST read for anybody and everybody.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 19, 2020Format: KindleVerified PurchaseIn this story, two distinct narratives unfold: what Annabelle does, and what drives her to do it.
The storytelling is intuitive, drawing on the reader’s instincts and assumed knowledge to build empathy and understanding with Annabelle and to evoke anger, grief and sorrow not just for her suffering and pain, but rather for that of all who have suffered in similar ways.
The story is very well written, boldly narrated by the character from whom it takes its title. Annabelle is a young woman who displays tenacity, conviction, and a desire for justice that proves, as it so often does, to be a far more powerful motivator than self-preservation.
While this book delivers an important and timely story that needs to be told and understood, it does contain some scenes of violence and of sexual assault, so it is not suitable for young readers, nor for readers whose own trauma may be triggered by that content.
Like Annabelle herself, this is a story that points the finger directly at not only the perpetrators, bit also those who enable and protect them with their silence, and demands justice for their transgressions.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 20, 2019Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI am mildly afraid of what I am becoming. I am not afraid of the consequences.
Let me just start by commending Elexis bell for writing on a very difficult topic. Annabelle is about vulnerability but rising from the ashes not just to succeed but to avenge and protect. There were moments this was a difficult read but only because of how accurate and realistic some scenes and emotions were portrayed. This was a great great read! I am definitely adding this Elexis Bell to my must read author list!
- Reviewed in the United States on May 12, 2019Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI fell in love with Annabelle rather quickly. The past and present combining in each chapter was well done, and very complex issues were discussed. My only problem with the novella is the ages of the characters, especially the children. Grace's son seemed too old to have reasonably had a 16 or 17 year old mother. Everyone just seemed too young, and while I think part of it was to make a point, it was just pulled me out of the story several times.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 8, 2019Format: KindleVerified PurchaseIn this powerful novella, Author Elexis Bell speaks for and to every woman who has survived sexual assault and abuse. Annabelle is what every sexual trauma survivor has wanted to be at some point or another. Elexis has done a brilliant job of taking us into the mind of a rape survivor without making it so graphic as to trigger any flashbacks for the readers. The concepts of justice, vengeance, retribution and the ways in which they affect the innermost thoughts and psyche of survivors are beautifully intertwined and laid out. I walked away with a sense of deeper clarity and understanding. Thank you for that, Elexis Bell!

- Reviewed in the United States on May 11, 2019Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseA very well written story and a lesson to be heard all in one. I had to finish reading this in one sitting. Annabelle's story is one to be remembered.

5.0 out of 5 stars A not so sweet tale of a mid-west vigilante
Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseThis short but not so sweet tale will leave you with a sense of pride for the main character, as well as a heavy feeling of realisation. What she has gone through has been felt by countless others, and will continue to do so, unless a change is made.
Until you have walked in the shoes of the victims of these crimes, you will never truly understand the self loathing, blame and need for vengeance that swirl around in a never ending cycle. This is what Elexis has been able to portray perfectly. You do feel. You do understand. Violence on this scale isn't the answer, but a modern day Annabelle is just what we need.

5.0 out of 5 stars Protect the innocent
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI was touched by this story and how it came to be. The afterword holds so much truth in it. I am proud of the author who no longer keeps silent, and sorry she has been a victim.
What happened to Annabelle, the main character in this story could be anyone. Your sister, your friend, mother or lover.
