Anticipating Disaster (Anticipation Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 505 ratings

The nerd and the ski instructor…

I hate being cold, and I’m a disaster at sports, but when my grandmother insists I attend a reunion at a mountain resort, I can’t say no.

The freezing temperatures and socializing are torment until a hot stranger rescues me from a disastrous ski lesson and promises to teach me himself. There are lots of things I’d like David to teach me, and none of them involve us standing out in the snow. I’m too shy to proposition him, and rumor has it he’s straight, but…

Would a straight man look at me the way he does? I don’t think so, but I’m only here for a week, and an outdoorsy guy like him wouldn’t want a nerd like me even if heat flares in his eyes every time he catches me staring.

Do I dare take a risk? It’s not like I’ll see David again. What if—just this once—I could have everything I wanted?

Silvia Violet writes bad boy M/M romance. She can be found haunting coffee shops looking for the darkest, strongest cup of coffee she can find. Once equipped with the needed fuel, she can happily sit for hours pounding away at her laptop. Silvia typically leaves home disguised as a suburban stay-at-home-mom, and other coffee shop patrons tend to ask her hilarious questions like "Do you write children's books?" She loves watching the looks on their faces when they learn what she's actually up to. When not writing, Silvia enjoys baking sinfully delicious treats, exploring new styles of cooking, and reading to her incorrigible offspring.

Love is where the heart is
I did so enjoy reading this story. The first in Silvia Violet new series Anticipation; Oliver is out of his elements at a ski resort that his Grandmother booked got a family reunion. When local outdoors man David offered to help him assimilate the two fall for each other. But Oliver who doesn't think that he could live in a cold climate walks away. I thoroughly enjoyed David and Oliver's love story. And I do agree with Oliver; Colin Firth is the best Me. Darcy EVER!!!!.

I loved this book. It has been on my TBR list for the longest and I'm glad that I finally got around to reading it. Oliver is a shy nerd from Miami, who hates the cold and is more comfortable indoors behind the screen of a computer. David is an outgoing, I want to say tour guide, but he's so much more than that. These two meet when Oliver's grandmother and her sisters plan their family reunion in Wyoming. It is an instant attraction between these two, and they spend Oliver's family reunion falling in love. They had a few minor obstacles to overcome, mainly Oliver's fear of falling in love again & dislike of the cold and the fact that David was not exactly out with his bisexuality. Once they got over those hurdles everything worked out great between them. I can't wait for the next book in the series. I know it'll be just as good.

Oliver feels like the odd one out in his large family, shunned by snobby cousins and parents who don't understand him. He works as a freelance writer and for the most part avoids any more human interaction than is absolutely necessary. His nana convinces him to travel to snowy Wyoming for a family reunion, every bit of which he dreads, but where he stumbles into David, a local tour guide and ski instructor. The unsuspecting romance on an unwanted trip aligns with one of my favorite themes, and this story did not disappoint. I'm still irritated at several of Oliver's family members - including his parents, whom we never really see, only hear of in passing - but the relatives that aren't awful actually seem quite wonderful, loving, and accepting. Several other Anticipation locals are introduced (David's friend Rob; bakery owner Noah; Marty; David's photography/teacher friend Ezra) whom I hope to see more of as the series continues!

This is a fantastic story. It’s my first by this author and I’m glad I took a chance and got it. David and Oliver are night and day but are perfect for each other. I love how David was able to bring Oliver out of his shell. Oliver is sweet but shy and had a sexy little secret. The storyline is interesting it’s a slow burn but so worth it. I look forward to reading more of Silvia Violet books

I really enjoyed this story. Oliver isn't understood by anyone in his family, except for his Grandma. The poor guy has been misunderstood and found lacking by so many that should just love him. I thought Oliver was a lovely character that needed someone to help him shine. Good thing a bad vacation leads him to David.

David is a wonderful character. He is interested in Oliver right away. He might not be out to his town, but he has known that he is Bi for a long time. I liked how open he was with Oliver and what he was willing to do for him.

This is a super cute romance. You might cry once or twice, but it is well worth the few sniffles. I really enjoyed it.

Oliver and David didn't fit the mold on the outside. Oliver a self expressed Nerd, a non outdoorsy writer from Miami. David is an outdoorsman who owns his own business in Wyoming. They meet when Oliver is at a ski resort, for a family reunion. This is a story about how one act of kindness can change your life. I loved this story. I hope there are more Anticipation books to come. I HIGHLY, HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK!!!!!

This wasn't my favorite book from this author. She has some books that I have loved, but this one was just okay. It got boring at times, but also didn't seem to give enough information, if that makes sense. Like we see Oliver's family relationship isn't that smooth but we never really understand why other than his sisters is a witch. At first David seems super confident and "in change" but then he comes across as a little unsure. That wasn't written smoothly because that CAN work out, but just not this time.

I skimmed through chunks of it. The sexy times were hot but the ending if absolutely a HFN. I really prefer a more solidly NEA I guess. Or at least, for this couple I did. There will be future stories in Anticipation, WY and I will check them out because this author can tell a great story. This one just wasn't my favorite.

I am stuck in a mode of getting into books in which one very strongly gay (if offbeat) character completely disarms and is seduced by a previously straight-but-curious hunk of a man. In this case the attraction between Oliver the near nerd and David the ski master-turned-entrepreneur is as far out as you might imagine, but what the heck, David is on the cover so it might be worth pursuing.

It was worth it even though much of the rationale and many of the characters were a bit much to be taken seriously. Saving grace here is Oliver's grandmother, who rules over a somewhat diverse and obnoxious clan which includes a few too many nasty creatures.

But Oliver survives, mostly with the increasingly adoring pursuit by David. This is a harmless couple of hours read which is good for reading on an airplane or between Netflix binges. Will check out the sequels.

This is a sweet, sexy read and just you’ve cone to expect from the author. Loved the interaction between the mc’s as they struggled to come to terms with the fact that you might not meet the right person in the right place or time but sometimes happiness is not what you planned. Highly recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars I loved the chemistry and the angst.

A recipe for a hot book Gather the main ingredients: one social shy writer who hates the cold, add in one gorgeous outdoors man who meets his first gay attraction. Stir in the other ingredients, hateful cousins and friendly towns folk. Bake in warm oven and let the chemistry and angst peek at high temps and then let cool for a beautiful finish.

This is a gorgeous story I loved. Oliver and David where the opposites to each other. Oliver a recluse writer who lived hating cold and crowds. David he was the outdoors man. There first meeting was good one which they silently connect. This is a fast falling in love story with Nana's plans help him out. I loved David's alpha personality in this. A great ending which I'd almost say a HFN/HEA story.
Includes Bi Sexual Virgin, Hot Sexy scenes, Lace Panties, Uncoordinated Skier, Family dramas and humorous scenes.

Quiet, introverted and nerdy meets his complete opposite. The sparks between these 2 are hot, the protective instincts that David has makes it even hotter.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun, easy read

This was a sweet and fun read. I loved Oliver and his social awkwardness, but especially how David looked past all of that to see the real Oliver. It was definitely a case of Opposites Attract, and their chemistry off the charts.

The storyline was sweet, light and flowed well, and put this in the 'easy afternoon read' category. With no angst or over the top drama, it is one of those books you easily read in one sitting.

The secondary characters were likeable and well developed and I look forward to reading the rest of the series and getting to know them all better.
