Anything but Easy: An Opposites Attract Romantic Comedy Kindle Edition

4.6 out of 5 stars 4,565 ratings

Kira Murphy is a liability: always has been. She might be small but her personality and heart are not: a sexual health doctor with a foul mouth, pink streaks in her hair, a bizarre worldview, a reputation for being ‘pathologically social’, and a huge crush on the current Minister of State for Business, Energy and Clean Growth . . . she’s weird and lovable in equal measure.

The last thing Barclay Lucas needs is a liability. He’s made it into the cabinet with single-minded determination, sheer grit, and serious conservatism. But then a crazy, pink-haired, tiny dynamo turns his life upside-down and serious for Barclay is a thing of the past.

But he’s never liked feeling out of control – something he experiences with Kira on a daily basis. So he pushes her away when she needs him the most, and unfortunately for him she retreats at head-spinning speed. It’s only then he realizes that although being with Kira is anything but easy, the grey, boring alternative is far worse. He’ll have to use all his hard-earned political negotiating and manoeuvring skills to get her back. Because after being dragged from black and white into full Technicolor with Kira, Barclay knows that, however serious and worthy his life is, he can’t live it without her.

Anything but Easy is an opposites attract, full-length contemporary romance.

Please be aware - occasional swearing and trigger warning for workplace sexual harassment.

This is contemporary British romantic comedy at its finest IMHO, great characters, great plot, impressive use of cockwomble as a pejorative, and truly laugh out loud at times.I really liked how the book dealt with life after having contracted HIV (Barclay’s brother Henry). It was super interesting to read and see what someone might go through. This is something I’ve never read before, and I always like it if an author is able to work in something new. After a decade of reading romance, I sometimes get the feeling that I’ve read it all already.
This is my new favorite quote - "Life is ten per cent what happens to you and ninety percent how you react to it. Don't waste yours looking back for what you've lost. Move on. Life isn't meant to be lived backwards.”

A fun rom-com of two people who were as opposite as you could get
Bar lay a British Cabinet Minister very stoic and Kira a free spirit Sex Doctor
    Let the “fun” begin
There are several “laugh out loud” moments in this remarkable story of two very different people finding love against all odds.
    Supporting characters were great too
You won’t regret reading this book

I really enjoyed this story and the writing. The angst was strong and my emotions ebbed and flowed for sure. I just wanted more groveling from Barclay, more storyline with the various issues that came up. Something would happen, they’d argue, then time would skip forward bypassing any aftermath that I was wishing for. Truly he missed out on basically everything by being so self absorbed and in the end saved her from further injury by Dr. Sexual Harassment…but she truly was suffering and he wasn’t involved at all. I was really disappointed by that. Not that I wanted her to let him in but I wanted him to at least be aware of how she was not doing well and subsequently be miserable and regretful because he deserved it. But that was glazed over too. It would’ve been an awesome addition because it was a huge deal. Then the scene where they almost didn’t let her pass her assessment- he didn’t know nor was involved in that portion either. In the end all he did was ‘apologize’ by being the ‘sacrificial man’ in her mom’s empowerment thing. He was awful, wicked awful to her in the scene that did them in. I honestly couldn’t look passed that if it were me. But there was never any conversation about it. They just made up and that was that. I really did love the storyline and again the writing was great. I just really yearned for more involved portions.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect read if you are having a bad day!

Kira is my favourite heroine written by Susie Tate. I actually ended up buying this book twice as the stand alone and the Beg, Borrow or Steal box set. I also loved "Limits" but Kira is just HILARIOUS!! Her wild sense of fashion and very funny one liners and not quite swearing (cockwombles??) This book is the perfect read if you are having a crappy day. It is also emotional and has some brilliantly written scenes that will steal your heart. I would recommend buying the Beg, Borrow or Steal box set instead of just the individual book -because trust me once you read one Susie Tate you are going to want to read more!!

Made me laugh and feel so many emotions for both the main characters and others around them. It is a wonderful utopia of love and acceptance that we can all understand in some form. The characters were shown in both strength and vulnerability in equal measures and it was a great read to find in a market of so many very same old books. Congratulations to the author and if you’re reading this review just pick up the book and enjoy the read.
