Around the Corner from Sanity: Tales of the Paranormal Kindle Edition

4.3 out of 5 stars 36 ratings

"Kilgore is a master of dread." - Jon Dobbin, author of The Starving

Where does fear find you?

Eerie entities from beyond our waking world are hardly limited to decrepit mansions or forlorn cemeteries. These fourteen tales of the paranormal will usher you into unexpected settings such as the homes of young couples, a corporate office, a Christmas gathering, a yard that needs raking, and more - places you'd least expect to find ghosts, demons, angels, or exotic gods stalking the living.

Some tales will leave you laughing, such as "Purgatory's Price," in which recently deceased souls must play a game show to get into Heaven. Others conjure fear of the dark, like "Rabbit Cry," in which a young mother and her child are pitted against a murderous teen next door, arousing the attention of supernatural forces.

Prepare yourself for a paranormal roller coaster that satisfies your cravings for both horror and humor by sending you around the corner from sanity.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"Kilgore is a master of dread. His stories build to a fever pitch with a satisfying (and often spooky) release. Kilgore's work holds the same intrigue and suspense of Edgar Allan Poe and W.W. Jacobs (of 'The Monkey's Paw' fame). Around the Corner from Sanity is a great book to read next to the fire - with all the lights on." - Jon Dobbin, author of The Starving
"Around the Corner from Sanity is a versatile collection of horror stories. Kilgore demonstrates his range from comedic to straight macabre all while maintaining a consistent tone and voice. Highly recommended for readers who want more than just vanilla!" - Brad Dunne, author of After Dark Vapours
"Mr. Kilgore obviously poured love into all the stories. Reading them almost feels like telling campfire stories." - Haunted MTL reviews

These tales are short in length but haunt long after ending. Each creeper in Kilgore's horror collection turns your stomach, chills your blood, and tickles your darkly humorous funny bone, but most of all entertains. The old-school ghost stories feel familiar, ideal for telling over a campfire, but my favorites had fun with a clever premise: what happens when the modern world and the spirit world collide?

Are you a fan of horror stories? Do you like stories of the paranormal or the supernatural? Do you love the work of the macabre master, Edgar Allan Poe? Then you will enjoy this anthology by Jason Kilgore.

"Around the Corner from Sanity: Tales of the Paranormal" encompasses fourteen short stories from the horrifying to the satisfying. Some stories dive into ghosts, some dive into demons, and some dive into gods you most likely never heard of, but all do one thing...they leave you wanting to read the next one. Jason does an amazing job of incorporating slow-building suspense (like Mr. Poe) and foreshadowing throughout his stories. Just when you think a story is going to end one way, it turns and goes in a different direction.

    I definitely recommend it!

This was a real treat...Kilgore made it hard to put the book down. All of the stories had a surreal, dream-like vibe...very entertaining and kept me thinking well-after reading each one. Kilgore has written an impressive diversity of short tales, all creepy in their own ways, while maintaining a clever undertone of dark humor throughout the compilation. Enthusiastic five stars and already waiting for his next book!

This book contains a series of vignettes that flow well from one to another thanks to the author's well-tied threads. The first story involves a potentially haunted necklace that belonged to Catherine the Great. Later, we encounter a story from the Southern backwoods that really freaked me out. There's a loose continuity that seems natural.

5.0 out of 5 stars Engaging and atmospheric paranormal tales

I thoroughly enjoyed this set of paranormal tales. From the first story itself, I was hooked. The atmospheric descriptions of the settings are excellent, and the language is elegant and lucid. My favourite story is 'Catherine's locket.' I could relate to this story emotionally too, and it did make me cry towards the end. Needless to say, the story is brilliantly written. Will look out for more from this promising author.
