4.2 out of 5 stars 1,022 ratings

Why are three killed to get an old painting? Not for money and nothing to do with art, reasons PI John Kite. Ex-cop Kite pursues a renegade foreign spy, believing the agent can reveal the hidden agenda. But Kite's employer is unconvinced, and tough, sparky Kite goes it alone. Then he's intrigued to find he’s being chased, too. By a sassy, female ex-cop. As their two quests collide, she exposes a tragedy from Kite’s past involving his criminal father, and Kite uncovers the horrifying ulterior motive for the art heist. For them both, getting the artwork back, then stopping the looming disaster becomes a matter of life and death. A fast-moving mix of snappy dialogue, crime, quirky characters, perky humour, thrills and a bit of romance. "There’s a lot going on in my crime thriller books," says author Stuart Doughty, "but there's also stuff you may not find in other writers' books. There are murders, heists, chases, but also quirky characters, snappy dialogue, and a sense of humour. My main character, British PI John Kite, is a tough guy who can fight, climb, drive fast and is a police-trained marksman, but he's also intelligent, amusing and thoughtful - even sensitive - on occasions. At age 19, Kite discovered his father was a professional criminal, so he changed his name, and changed his life to join the police. Now, as a PI, he still strives to atone for his father’s crimes. Specialising in hunting stolen artworks, he crosses continents to fight crime – and save the world from the mayhem threatened by despots, tycoons, warlords, and foreign agents.”

Stuart was born in London, England. He spent most of his life working as a Television Producer, making popular drama series and soaps.

It’s a good read. At times it’s hard to follow Because I don’t know all of the British terms they use. Also since I don’t know the UK some of the places didn’t make any sense to me but that’s OK I’ve dealt with that before. The plot was good and I enjoyed reading it.

Good plot and quirky characters make this book fun to read. The action was fast paced, the violence not too graphic. John is a thorough investigator. He meets interesting people along the way, sharing his assessment of them with humorous and sometimes scathing insights. I'm looking forward to the next book in this series

A somewhat famous painting is stolen, and John Kite is hired to pay a fee for its return. When he arrives to exchange money for the artwork, he discovers someone has previously signed him in. He hurries to the meeting room and finds his contact and another person dead, and no painting. And then things really get interesting. Think Da Vinci, Qatar, Abu Dhabi, manufacturing printers, Rochelle and Kirsty, a helicopter chase, lawyers, bosses, Heathrow airport, and much more.
A very good read. There might be a few twists and turns in this thriller.
    Read it yourself.

It is not often that one finds that they want to read an entire book in one sitting! John Kite certainly makes someone want to ignore everything going on in the world about them and just read. The plot and story are riveting and follow one twist after another to keep you guessing what will happen next. A fantastic cast of supporting characters makes this a fantastic read and definitely makes one want to grab the next two books in the series to see what will happen next to this unassuming agent who is on the search for missing or stolen art works!

The story held my interest until the end. Although a different type of detective, he follows a similar method of work as other detectives following a suspect. His characters are engaging and I enjoyed revisiting those parts of London that I know well - Nottinghill and New Southgate. It is well-written, so I can recommend it.

I’m not an avid reader but The Art of Danger kept me interested from page one. The central character was well described and the action was fast moving. Fantastic car chases not to mention the helicopter ride. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and look forward to the next John Kite adventure.
