I don’t apologize or regret the destruction I’m about to cause. I’m at peace with what I must do...nothing can or will stand in my way. Not even the raven-haired beauty with golden eyes who haunts my dreams.
No one is innocent in the story of my life. Fairy tales don’t exist!
I. Make. No. Excuses.
Everyone needs to atone, and I’m the man who is going to see to it.

A terrible tragedy almost brought the Disciples to their knees and ruined them. Until Blade stepped in and took them in an even better direction.
After all Blade was the only McCormick still breathing that could step in. Well, David McCormick Blade’s cousin is still breathing but barely.
When that explosion took away the only thing that mattered to him in life he got lost.
Lost in every possible way. Lost to the grief, Lost to the pain. Lost to the guilt. Lost to the drugs that quiet his mind and numb his heart.
But now he’s back, returning to the place he grew up where all his demons and skeletons lie. Nine years later he has a lead on who was responsible for the explosion that took everything from him.
There’s a rat somewhere in the Disciples and David “Poet” is back to exact his revenge and avenge his daughter’s death.
In a sea of darkness he always comes back to the light. Coming in the form of a beautiful girl who he stole just enough moments from to change his life. He’s drawn to her but he knows he can never be who she deserves. Little does he know that he is all she’s ever wanted.
.
I was so curious about David’s story just from the small pieces we saw in Lethal so I was thrilled to be reading his story and wow. Every single emotion a human can experience is laid out in the pages of this book. It’s raw, gritty and dirty truths gave me goosebumps. Not only does Cassandra know how to write an incredible layered story but she set me on fire with the spice!
Go read this book I promise you will not regret it!
- Reviewed in the United States on March 25, 2022Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI do NOT consider this to be a STAND-ALONE read. It is part of a series that contains multiple reoccurring characters, details that cannot be adequately recapped within the scope of another story that contributes to the story universe / world building, overlapping / concurrent timelines and overarching themes.
This story has a decidedly darker theme than the first in the series. It is about David, aka Poet, and Charlie, aka Charlize, and how their lives took a massive nose dive after an explosion meant to take out the top members of his family instead killed a few of them and included his crazy baby mama and daughter about 9 years earlier. It does end on a small cliffhanger to tease the next story in the series.
David has finally crawled out of the dark hole of drug use and returned to LA to find out who was the person responsible for betraying them all years ago. As much as he wants to, he can’t make himself stay away from Charlie. She is much like the heroin that still calls for him and he has to see if she is still at the diner her family owns.
Charlie can’t believe it when she sees him sitting at a table. Her vision must be playing tricks on her. Her bad boy left town after tragedy struck. Charlie never even got to tell him how sorry she was for his loss. She always knew he was it for her, and that was only confirmed after their one and only kiss. That has to be the reason why she finds herself standing at his table and interrupting his dinner.
David didn’t want her apology or guilt. After some words he goes out the front door and Charlie just had to follow him. It doesn’t take much and the two of them are putting on a show for an older couple out walking. Charlie has always been his light, but there is no coming out of his darkness. He will only destroy her. David came back to identify whomever destroyed his life and seek revenge. There can be no atonement, right?
⛔️ The series contains references to, or scenes detailing, subject matter that may be a trigger or offensive to some, including: adult language; derogatory terms; mental health challenges; steamy adult intimate scenes with dominance, submission, spanking for pleasure and punishment, restraints, “bottom” play, breath play, sensory deprivation, voyeurism, exhibitionism, etc.; violence such as kidnapping, abduction, murder, death, torture, assault, fighting, betrayal, coercion, blackmail, threats, subterfuge, money laundering, gun running, cheating, prostitution, human trafficking, mafia / cartels, arson, drug use, drug addiction, drug manufacturing, drug distribution, etc.
** This story contains graphic scenes and references to the use and the addiction of multiple drugs including, but not limited to: cocaine, heroin, pills, and marijuana **
There are very few grammatical issues primarily comprised of incorrect word choice and tense, punctuation errors, missed words and extra inserted words. I am mentioning these for readers such as myself that visualize the story as it is read, because errors interrupt the flow.
There were also a few scenes that didn’t easily transition. It almost seemed like there was dialogue that had been removed in between two completely different scenes. The main reason though that I couldn’t give it 5 stars was due to David. He became a little annoying to me by the end. I think his “I’m too damaged … I will only destroy you” went on a little too long.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 13, 2019Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThe Disciples saga continues with the return of Blades' cousin David. David left the MC after the loss of his beloved baby daughter. He returns to get revenge on the killers after a nine year absence, but Blade, the Prez, does not make it easy for him. David expects this but is determined. His return also includes the beautiful girl(then)(woman now) that he is in love with - Charlie. David's agony over the loss of his daughter is like a force of nature and it has almost destroyed him. Charlie is the one person who may be able to save him, if he doesn't destroy her first! He needs help, badly, but he has to make the persons responsible meet his brand of justice first. In the interim, he engages in a push and tug relationship with the beautiful Charlie. She has mega patience with him, her love for him is that strong. David uses sex with Charlie, and I mean the hottest sex scenes I've read in a while- whew, to keep his demons at bay just like any addict. He tells Charlie that he can never really commit to a real relationship with her because he is damaged, but she can't help trying to convince him that they can have a life together. I could feel the pain from them both. Their conflicted relationship made for a very intense and passionate read. Charlie is sure of her feelings and she knows that deep down, David loves her just as much. She's a love warrior and you just have to root for her. The MC has a rat and Blade and David are determined to discover who is responsible for the death of their loved ones, the aftermath affects Charlie and you will cry right along with her. The ending is fabulous and I have to say that Blade knows the true meaning of family and comes through for David. Be prepared, there is a wow moment in the epilogue that leads to the next book in this series!! Cassandra Robbins is a powerful storyteller and this is a powerful story. I loved this book and I love this series, it is a must read and I can't wait for the next book!!

5.0 out of 5 stars David and Charlie
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI enjoyed this one even more then the first book.
David is a tormented soul, blaming himself for the death of his cousin, uncle, girlfriend and child when they died in an explosion. Reformed after drowning his sorrows in drugs he returns for revenge.
He's never forgotten Charlie who he kissed that day, making him late and avoiding also dying.
It's full of anyst and the struggle he has with drugs and alcohol.
The chemistry between this couple is really strong. I really liked this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great MC series
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI really enjoyed this dark and gritty MC romance. These guys are no wannabee's but real 1%r's. They may be alphaholes but have broken pasts but it just takes the right strong and sassy woman to make them whole.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderfully complex while tackling difficult issues
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis book tackles some really difficult issues and it does so in a way that is graceful and beautiful to read. It's a difficult book at times because of the subject matter. The book tackles a parent surviving child mortality, depression and drug addiction. It is a rollercoaster of a read but it is one of those truly beautiful reads were the light in the characters shines through the darkness they experience. There is enough action in the plot to keep the pacing interesting while at the same time plenty enough time devoted to emotional consequences of the plot for the characters and the development of their personal stories to make it really easy to connect and stay invested in the characters. You really want things to work out for these characters from early on.
I loved the first book of this series and I didn't expect to like the second so much but if anything I like it even more. As a reader it's exciting to find such a new author writing such good fiction. I really cannot wait to see what they write next. I really recommend this book. It was excellent. A great gritty and emotional MC read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great 2nd book in this MR Romance.
Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseThis is the 2nd book that I've read from this author and the 2nd book in this series The Disciples Series. This is David's and Charlie's story and they go through a tough journey.
This is a MC Romance, dark romance that is a must read.
David has been and is going through so very much and all he is thinking of is revenge. He can't escape this dark hole he is in and he knows he's supposed to stay away from her his light.
Charlie doesn't want to end up like her mum but when David comes back into her life years late she can't stay away from this broken bad boy.
I absolutely loved seeing both these characters changing on the pages and the connection that Charlie has with him even after all that time has passed I'd awesome. They have great banter, they are very steamy together and they had a lot of chemistry. At times this book will pull on your emotions and I really felt for what David was going through.
I really like this authors writing style and I was hooked straight away. I enjoyed reading this book and seeing some more of the side characters and I can't wait to jump into the rest of this series.
