4.2 out of 5 stars 72 ratings

A kidnapping in London, a disappearance in Beijing… the past is catching up with the future for her.

Nancy Wu, the renowned lawyer and Queen’s Counsel, has lent her formidable skills to DCI Pole and Scotland Yard for many years. It is high time she directs her exceptional mind to solving a cold case that has been haunting her for far too long... her father’s disappearance from Beijing 30 years ago.

When her young friend Ollie, a genius biotech researcher, is kidnapped, drugged, and left for dead in London, she joins forces with Pole to find the culprit.

As the links between the two cases become entwined and evidence points to a China connection, MI6 and The CIA show an unexpected interest in helping her and Pole solve the cases. But people around Nancy are starting to get hurt. How much will she sacrifice to get to the answers she seeks?

BLOOD DRAGON is the first gripping book in the NANCY WU CRIME THRILLER series and a standalone book. If you like gritty heroines with a lethal mind, surprising twists and turns that will keep you guessing, then you’ll love Freddie P Peters’ startling crime thriller.

Nancy Wu just has become one of my favorite sleuths. In honesty, I can’t wait for Book 2 in this series, featuring Nancy, her love interest, Jonathan, and a cast of other fascinating characters, including a half-sister. The combination of contemporary art references, smart bio tech, and international intrigue makes for a compelling set of intertwined lives and stories. A real literary treasure hunt, set in London and Hong Kong. I’ll be starting Book 2 as soon as I can!

Nancy Wu is looking for her father, who went missing in China many years ago. She also acts as an external advisor to Scotland Yard. She and DCI Pole is looking into the disappearance of genius tech researcher, Ollie Wilson. But why is the CIA involved?

Follow the action, as Jack (CIA), Nancy, and Pole carry on their investigation into Vira Tech despite ongoing threats against them.

Different viewpoints and the slow release of clues through the narrative helps to build tension.

Read this complex novel with many angles that keep you guessing until the end.

I received an ARC and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

This story has Nancy looking for information on her father who returned to China leaving his wife and Nancy in Frace. At the same time that she is researching her father, a friend's boyfriend is kidnapped and Nancy gets involved in that case as well. To top matters, the individual kidnapped was working with the CIA and they began their own investigation as well. Not long after Pole and his team also start looking into the events related to the kidnapped boyfriend.

As Nancy is working on her two cases, an investigation arises which pertains to Nancy's involvement with the Henry Crowne case. A member of one of the teams involved is looking into whether there was a mole who was a part of the group that took the terrorists down. As more information is discovered regarding both cases, Nancy takes a trip to China to primarily look for info on her father. While there she was also going to check a facility that a company of London was working with.

To discover all the events associated with the kidnapping, what the London company relationship was, why and who Nancy met in China, then you need to read this book. It is a great lead to the 2nd book in the series "Son and Crusader".

I found myself loving Nancy and her personality when she helped her friend in the other series. There was just something about her. I really loved her story in this book. And I'm ready to see what she is up to after this.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I like complex books and this one did not disappoint. Nancy is a character with a quick brain. She has her hands in several pies. She is looking for her long lost father. A friend is missing. A techy friend and his girlfriend has their apartment set on fire. Pole, her boyfriend, is wanting her to be less involved. So much going on and she up and goes to Hong Kong. The story is fast paced and a good story. I liked the book.

I was completely engaged in this fast-paced book, and I loved the weave of themes - AI, biotechnology, terrorism, criminality, politics, espionage and of course the great contemporary art theme running through the work. This is a stand-alone book, but the characters grow ever more complex and interesting, I've been following them from the very first book and I love the developments as individuals and in their relationships.

25% of the way in and I gave up. Seems to have a solid writing pedigree and a interesting storyline - China, biometrics, bio something, CIA, MI6 etc. But very stop/start, lots of flashbacks to earlier times and a bit disjointed. Lacking direct writing style and even on a summer holiday I found it didn’t engage me. A shame but will try again in a few weeks time.

I'm becoming slightly obsessed with Nacy Wu and her investigations, as well as with the budding romance between the eminent Queen's Counsel and DCI Jonathan Pole. This latest story, the start to a new series with just Wu and Pole, starts with fast action and the pace never slows down.
A thoroughly brilliant read! I cannot wait for the next instalment.
