When Steve Higgs wrote his debut novel, Paranormal Nonsense, he was a captain in the British Army. He would like to pretend that he had one of those careers that must be blacked out and generally denied by the government, and that he has to change his name and move constantly because he is still on the watch list in several countries. In truth, though, he started out as a mechanic - not like Jason Statham in the film by that name, sneaking around as a hitman, but more like one of those sleazy guys who charges a fortune and keeps your car for a week even though the only thing you went in for was a squeaky door hinge.

At school, he was largely disinterested in all subjects except creative writing, for which he won his first prize at the age of ten. However, calling it the first prize he won suggests that there were other prizes, which is not the case. Awards may yet come, but in the meantime, he enjoys writing mystery and thriller novels and claims to have more than a hundred books forming a restless queue in his mind because they are desperate to be written.

Now retired from the military, he lives in southeast England with a duo of lazy sausage dogs. Surrounded by rolling hills, brooding castles, and vineyards, he doubts he'll ever leave, the beer is just too good.

You get a little bit of everything in this series; humor, fantasy, action, thriller, mystery and even romance. The stories are procedural, but not obvious. It is about a paranormal detective agency, so while the lead characters stay the same, there are interactions with lots of others. The stories are written from the perspective of each of the lead characters. Therefore, the pace and tone is slightly different from book to book. This keeps it fresh. I enjoy the quick banter and pace of the stories. I look forward to reading more of the Blue Moon Investigations' exploits.

I love this series. The humour, the action, all the characters; including the dogs of course, make for fun, entertaining and intriguing reading. I’ve shared the series with friends and family and everyone is addicted.

What they used to call a real page turner. Very enjoyable and nicely constructed. The stories are easy to read in that the characters are easily identified which is useful when the plot shifts and twists. I think it's too difficult to categorise as fantasy, but more unreal than the usual detective lines so I'll accept the term as the secondary characters are often fantasists (is that a word?) Very few loose ends but the plots leap and twist like a Lost Raiders mine railway.

    I love these books.
There is action, humour - I laughed out loud a few times - and mystery, all of which is greatly written.
All the characters are interesting, but I think my favourite interactions are between Tempest and Big Ben.
As someone who reads a lot of paranormal books, it’s fun to also read ones that discredit the existence of the paranormal. Part of me would kind of like for Tempest or his team to be faced with a least one case that they can’t explain, though. :)
