Since being thrown out of his home by his parents, Caden has been struggling to survive on the streets. He lives in constant fear, stresses over his next meal, and dreads trying to find a safe place to sleep at night. He eventually finds an unlocked car and settles in to sleep, but is soon interrupted when someone steals the car. With little choice but to ride along, Caden soon learns that first impressions aren’t always correct.
Seventeen-year-old Damario has been raising his little brother and sister by himself since his parents were deported. He finds himself stealing cars to make ends meet, but he never expected to find someone sleeping in the back of one of them. And he really didn’t expect this stowaway to change his life.
When Damario brings Caden home, it was supposed to be just for a shower and a hot meal, but he can hardly kick him out onto the streets again. There is no way he could have seen that by saving Caden that night, he was also saving himself. About the author

BL Maxwell grew up in a small town listening to her grandfather spin tales about his childhood. Later she became an avid reader and after a certain vampire series she became obsessed with fanfiction. She soon discovered Slash fanfiction and later discovered the MM genre and was hooked.
Many years later, she decided to take the plunge and write down some of the stories that seem to run through her head late at night when she’s trying to sleep.
BL Maxwell loves to hear from readers who enjoy her stories, so feel free to reach out at any of these links:

- Reviewed in the United States on February 7, 2022This is a beautiful and emotional story of two people who find each other at he exact right moment in both their lives. At seventeen, Caden and Demario are two young men with responsibilities far beyond their youth. Caden, who was kicked out of his home at seventeen after discovering he was gay, was left homeless and without the streetwise sophistication to care for himself. This left him in a constant state of mistrust and fear. Damario “Rio” is parenting his younger sister and brother after their parents were deported. Working, still going to school, he steals cars to make enough to support his family. Scared, alone and afraid he is slowly going under from the responsibilities heaped on him.
Their paths cross when Rio steals the car Caden has found to sleep in and it become the best night of both their lives. Together these young men learn to accept that they are so much better together than apart. The life lessons they teach each other turning them from boys to men. With help along the way from friends they didn't even know they had. Rio credits it to the sweet guy that he stole.
It was wonderful to see how the author showed Caden's character growing in both his ability to trust and be vulnerable after the horrible betrayal of his. Caden proves to be the ying to Damario's yang. While Rio is strapped with the responsibilities of being a surrogate parent, Caden helps him to find humor and levity in his life. This combination creates a formidable union.
This box set allows the reader to see the story of Caden and Rio unfold in one smooth continuous book. You get to see the two grow together from young naïve teenagers to strong, confident, and self assured husbands and fathers.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 22, 2022Caden and Rio are such strong and loving young men, I don't want to call them "boys" since their love and sense of duty makes them mature beyond their years. Despite being dealt bad hands in life they both step up to take care of their family, found or by blood, and it's a joy to read about their journey. This bundle follows the from those first days and into adulthood as their love for each other and for their family is as strong and beautiful as ever.
I liked following Caden and Rio through young adulthood and forward as they became the adults they were always meant to be.
I listened to the audiobook and Curtis Michael's narration was good and easy to listen to.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 16, 2022A wonderful, emotional, and heartwarming journey these three books were! Caden and Rio both had to lead hard lives and shoulder a lot of responsibilities at a young ago. Caden was seventeen and hiding the fact that he was gay from his strict parents who were very vocal against homosexuality. When his mom discovered two gay romance novels he'd borrowed, he was no longer their son and they kicked him out, dumping him alone in an unfamiliar area far from home with only a couple articles of clothing and a little money he'd managed to save up. He had no idea how to live on the streets, but he was determined to survive.
Rio's parents were suddenly deported, and at eighteen and not yet graduated, he had to step up to raise his younger brother and sister. With the money his parents left dwindling, and his job not enough to support the three of them, he began stealing cars- one a week- to make extra money. During one theft, he was surprised to find Caden sleeping in the backseat. He bought him a meal and had him stay the night. They bonded quick, and Rio told him to stay with them as long as he needed. As much as my heart ached over what these two were going through, I loved how they bonded and their relationship grew. It really was a pivotal moment of being in the right place at the right time for two wonderful people who were exactly what the other needed. I highly recommend this boxset. 5 stars
- Reviewed in the United States on February 27, 2022I loved the Better Together Universe boxset by BL Maxwell. There are three books in the Better Together Universe: Better Together, Chains Required, and The First Twelve.
I loved Better Together. It's the first book. I loved Rio and how kind and helpful he was when he met Caden for the first time and ended up taking him home with him. Their story is a slow-burn romance. I loved all of the supporting characters, Lisa who would watch the kids for Rio when he was at work, Rio's sister and little brother, Adana and Eron, and Rio's boss, who helped him with the paperwork for being a guardian for his siblings, and Caden's sister, Chloe. They truly are better together.
Chains Required is the second book, and it's a companion story. It takes place before Chase and Rio get engaged. It's hot and steamy without being too graphic, and for Caden, it's full of little surprises and dreams coming true. Rio did a fabulous job.
The First Twelve is the third book and takes place after the first book. I loved the First Twelve. Rio and Caden want to have a baby, and Caden's sister wants to be a surrogate for them. We get to see them go through her pregnancy, the birth of their child, and the baby's first twelve months. It was super cute, and I loved baby Jesse and Chaos, the dog. They were definitely partners in crime. I laughed a lot reading this book.
I loved Rio and Caden, and they were better together.
