Before Us... There Was Him Kindle Edition
We lived like nomads together for years, traveling the country, never looking behind us, living for nothing but each day and each other.
But then everything fell apart... especially my heart.
Five years later and my wanderlust years were behind me. New York was now my home.
I had everything, including a new man and a plan.
At least I that’s what I thought... until Lucas walked back into my life and stole my breath away with one cocky smile.
A smile that could change everything...

About the author

Lou Stock has always lived in a world of her own, continuously lost in her imagination. Whether in the forests that backed up to her home in Aberdeen when she was only six years old, the unique landscape of Singapore she discovered at eight, or the rolling woodlands that rolled up to Dartmoor during her teen years, there have always been new worlds to explore.
Now an adult living in Oakhurst, Texas, and surrounded by forests there are stories to tell. When she's not writing, Louise can be found hanging out with her family, crazy pup, or at the computer lost in her creativity of her successful graphic design business, LJDesigns.

- Reviewed in the United States on May 2, 2022The first book I read by this author was A Shot in the Dark and it gutted me. I cried so hard I had to stop and mourn before I could pick the book back up and continue reading. So I knew I wanted to read more from her. I just made sure I had tissues handy because I knew she can wrench your heart.
Lucas and Riley are the real deal. When they meet, they know. If you have ever had a true soul mate, you will understand what they have and how they ache for each other. Their connection, their chemistry, their need for each other is more than the need for food or water. They cannot live without each other, not a full life. They are each half of a whole.
The imagery of their travels is so beautiful, I could see it all. The photos that Riley takes to journal their lives becomes so much more than just a picture. It memoralizes certain episodes where life changing events happen to them as well as gives her a new life.
The friendship between Riley, Kenzie, Amber, and Aliya is the heartbeat throughout the book. Their bonds are so strong and they depend upon each other for everything. I loved these four girls so much! Their emotional connection and genuine love for each other was just beautiful.
I saw some of the reviews stating how could Riley forgive Lucas and giving less stars for it. If you have ever had a soul mate, you would understand that when your other half comes back...well.
I loved this book. It slayed me. It broke my heart for both Lucas and Riley, more for Riley. I loved the ending. I want to visit Shelter Cove. I wish I could give more than Five Stars. This is how romance should be written Ms. Stock. You do it proud.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 9, 2021Being new to Ms.Stock's work I've been meaning to pick up her books for quite some time now. As soon as I stumbled across this book while scrolling through social media I knew it had to be the first book of hers that I picked up! I enjoyed this story!
Right from the prologue this story had my attention! I liked the fact that this journey had realness to it and how it kept me on my toes! I felt many different things throughout with these characters. I just struggled at certain points.
With Before Us... There Was Him, Ms.Stock has created a good read! I'm looking forward to picking up more of her work!
- Reviewed in the United States on July 11, 2021This story sucks you in from the very first chapter and holds you tight in a warm embrace of true love and a tangible feeling of rightness.
Lucas and Riley are believable and their story is profound. From stumbling headfirst into the wild rush of young love, to thinking all is lost, and then finding that love again and that it’s stronger than ever, you feel the highs and lows with this couple.
I felt so many emotions reading this incredible love story, and I’ve already reread it again. I know this is going to be a book I go back to and reread for the rest of my life.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 21, 2022From the first page to the last, I was caught up in the journey of love this author wove! The people, the places, the love, and the way it all unfolded… real, raw, and filled with characters and a journey I will never forget! The story was so good, I couldn’t stop reading until it was done. Five stars for the author, Ms, Lou Stock!
- Reviewed in the United States on July 10, 2021Riley Moss has put herself back together and restarted her life in New York City. She’s got a flourishing career, doting boyfriend and still remains best friends with her childhood girlfriends. Yet Lucas Benson walks back into her life and creates complete upheaval. The first 60% of the book is about Riley’s relationship with Lucas from years before. I wanted to be swept away by their romance, but that’s not what actually happened. Neither of them have any clear plan whatsoever and simply drift from place to place with their love keeping them warm, except when it doesn’t pay for the next meal and Lucas has to lean towards shadier activities. It was hard to root for a couple who had no ambition or goal. I realize they were young and adventurous and even reckless, but this went on for a good chunk of the book, with Riley turning a semi blind eye to Lucas’ dealings. To me, it didn’t progress their arc as a couple and I felt indifferent towards Lucas so his absence didn’t feel like a true loss. When it finally comes back to the present and Riley is with Jace and it’s obvious she still harbors buried feelings for Lucas, this is where the book became more interesting. The added layers of complexity and angst were finally entering the picture, but didn’t last long. The resumed romance between Lucas and Riley seemed anticlimactic given everything that had happened with the resulting heartbreak. Riley is not high drama and I could appreciate that, but she forgave Lucas rather quickly and while I liked present day Lucas more than the past version, there wasn’t much page time devoted to get to know this guy now. I went in expecting to love this book and came away somewhat lukewarm. While not my favorite story, I still plan to read this author’s work again in the future.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 12, 2021This book was definitely worth the read. I was hooked from the very first page.

5.0 out of 5 stars A beautiful and heartwarming story
I only review the good ones and this story was one of the best. The description of their journey felt like you were taking it with them and it didn’t rely on too much spice to keep you interested. I loved the characters and they were very relatable A satisfying read. Now I want to do a road trip!

5.0 out of 5 stars Heartfelt journey
What a journey I've been on with these characters
It felt like I was reading Lucy's memoirs and I was enraptured from the beginning.
Lucy tells her story of how she fell hard for Lucas from the moment they met
The developed the kind of love where without each other they are merely a half. Soul mates. Meant for each other.
This is a road trip if all road trips, Where Lucy tells her story of the good, the bad the ugly.
When their journey comes to an end, when Lucas goes in a different direction Lucy becomes testament to the fact that life must goes on. Lucy did that even while living a half empty life.
Sometimes though, sometimes...love finds a way of bringing two burning stars back together.
Fabulous story, and a heartfelt journey
