About the author

I live by the sea in Plymouth, England, with my partner Dave. I like reading, sailing, and exploring in our camper van. I love getting up early to watch the sunrise in summer, and long quiet evenings by the wood burner in our cabin on the cliffs in Cornwall in winter.
I write traditional Regency romance novels that respect the mores of the era. I like to think my characters, though flawed, are likeable, strong, and true to the period.

- Reviewed in the United States on June 10, 2024I very much enjoyed this book!
Well written with a very intriguing plot.
A bit of mystery and suspense amidst a beautiful Cornwall setting.
I liked both Henry and Katherine and enjoyed how they came together.
Clean romance - thank you very much!
Really good supporting characters too!
I like how some of the characters from previous books in this series are part of this one.
I highly recommend this book - as well as the first 2 in this series.
Each book is easily a stand alone novel, but I think it would be good to read them in order - but only so that you know some of the history behind some of the other characters.
I am on to a different series of hers now!

- Reviewed in the United States on May 29, 2024Enjoy this author's books. Has a nice style of writing with a host of interesting side characters. Usually 5 star rating. This one loses a point because I just didn't like the hero much. Also, they were apart most of the story and I just couldn't feel their romance. Will he stay faithful to her? The mystery was good though and I liked the hero's sister and her backstory.

5.0 out of 5 stars well written
The authors writing charms and draws the readers Imagination with believable dialogue I.e. not stilted or overly formal - realistic.
The characters are engaging and the storyline, although fairly predictable, was entertaining. A lovely easy read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Jenny Hambly breathes life into history.
This author is going from strength to strength! In book 3 of the series the characters have become yet more rounded, the plotlines have become more subtle yet far deeper, and the prose more absorbing.... so much so that I simply had to finish this story in just two sittings. The parallel stories of Katherine and the ladies intertwine with the harshness of Cornish ways that Trelevan and colleagues seek to sooth. Both have gifts to bring to those around them, and in doing so find each other. Rivetting and well done!

4.0 out of 5 stars Charming plot, good cast, sure ground but halting footwork; just a tad more passion would have benn welcome.
Catherine is no Diamond but a lithely handsome level-headed spinster in her late twenties, who must move on from housekeeping for her scholarly borther when he weds.
Charged with renovating a moldering country property she is befriended by the neighboring widow, whose prodigal son of rakish fame is recently returned to claim his title and offer his mother and shy, young sister his overdue protection.
A most enjoyable read, with many insightful and amusing episodes, but a bit tame.

5.0 out of 5 stars A good read
I would like to recommend this series of books by Jenny Hambly. The stories have good strong characters and the plots are interesting and attention grabbing. This book appears to be well researched and shows a view of the Regency era that is not only about balls, dresses and promenades in Hyde Park.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lively Characters with sense
I enjoyed reading these 3 books in the series with ample references to the outdoors and nature as well as the dialogue and « adventure ». This book set in Cornwall might be my favourite of the 3.
