Back in the Game (Dating by Numbers) Kindle Edition
But all that changes the minute Rachel Perry runs into him in the most unlikely of places, right outside the men's bathroom. Vibrant and enchanting, she captures his attention, making it impossible for him to walk away without scoring her number.
Their connection is immediate, their attraction palpable, and their relationship undeniable. But Rachel isn't the only girl in Calder's life which scares him, because Calder's daughter already lost her mother. He doesn't want Shea to lose someone close to her again, making Rachel's task of breaking through Calder's wall that much more difficult.

- Reviewed in the United States on September 26, 2018This is a standalone novella, so my review will also be short and sweet, because I don't want to spoil you anything... ;) it's not gonna be easy to do, but I will try my best :) so not such a long story even shorter... ;) Calder is a hockey player and a single dad... he didn't really had the time to date anyone for quite a while... but lately, things started to change... so when he met Rachel in the most unusual way, he decided to go for it and tried to win her over :) I can't tell you anything else about the plot of the story, because I would have to spoil you more than half of the book ;) so instead let me jump into all the reasons why I adored it :)
I gave this novella 5 stars :) I inhaled it... because of the amazingly entertaining writing style, it was a super fast read :) I think my favourite part were the witty and hilarious text messages between our main couple ;) all of their interactions really... ;) Calder was surprisingly sweet... I did not expect him to have this vulneralbe / awkward side... ;) it was simply adorable :) and Rachel was fun and confident... the way they met is definitely one of my favourites I read in like forever... not many women can say that they met the love of their life when he slapped her with his fairy wing outside of a bathroom... yep, you read that correctly :) even though the book is short, the relationship between them don't feel rushed... I liked how over time they connected more with each oher... how that connection grew and changed... :) plus, you should know by now, that hockey players are my kryptonite in books... #NoShame ;) this was not my first story wrriten by this author, and it will definitly not be the last.. :) if she's new to you, this novella is the perfect way to see how amazing she is, and to get completely hooked by her entertaining writing style... I highly recommend you guys to give it a try and fall in love... with our main couple, their story, and this lovely author :)
- Reviewed in the United States on May 1, 2018Back in the Game by Meghan Quinn was originally part of the Team Player Anthology which has now been released on its own. This is a quick and charming read for all Meghan Quinn fans and a preface of sorts to One Baby Daddy but can totally be read on its own.
I must say I loved Calder Weiss. What man would dress up as a fairy for his daughter and go out in public? The fairy even had a name, Wanda! Who would not love a man like that? His life has always been about his daughter. He always put her first. But when he literally slaps a woman with his wings, he knows she is different.
Rachel was minding her own business when she is literally attacked by fairy wings who belong to one of the hottest and sexiest man she has ever met. The attraction is instant, and their chemistry is off the charts. I love the banter between these two. His being a famous hockey player had no impact on their relationship. It was something he did, Rachel saw past that.
I absolutely loved this short story. It was charming, full of chemistry and so damn sweet with very light angst. Rachel and Calder were meant to be together. My only compliant was I would have loved to have read more about Calder and Rachel. But it does sounds like we will see more of them in One Baby Daddy!

Happy reading!
- Reviewed in the United States on April 29, 2025I admit I didn't realize this was a novella but read it because it was part of the numbers series. It's a quick easy romance.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 4, 2023This was insta and cute! And, we actually see the older brother of Halsey Holmes (He’s Not My Type which just came out last week) make an appearance (Hayden). I love when characters from other books I’ve read interconnect 🥰 lol (while not affecting the standalone status).
Calder’s a single father to a five-year-old daughter. His baby mama decided she didn’t care to be in her daughter’s life so he took on the role by himself. Although hockey keeps them extremely busy, he still takes the time to make sure he’s doing the best that he can with his kid.
Dressed as a fairy, he comes out of the restroom when Rachel bumps into him 😅. Cue insta-everything 👀. he asked her out of the date and she promptly says yes.
What I liked:
—the audiobook’s duet narration while texting 👀. It’s my kryptonite 🥰
—all the times they texted while he was away 🥰
—being “pregnant” to hide contraband candy in the movie theater 🤣. Now I gotta try it 👀
—old-school dating 🫶. Reminds me of my younger days 😉
—the one 🔥 scene. It was 🥵
—improvising while he was away 😉🔥
—he calls her baby and beautiful 🔥
What I wanted more of:
—some reciprocity when it comes to 👄. I like me a selfless hero 🤷🏻♀️
—we only see his daughter at the very end of the book. I wish we would’ve seen more of her.
— it ends abruptly; no proper epilogue. I would call this more of an HFN.
Overall, I enjoyed this ❤️
- Reviewed in the United States on May 18, 2018This was a funny and hawt novella!! I loved getting to know Calder and Rachel and how they instantly hit it off. I absolutely love how good of a Dad Calder is and would do anything for his little girl. He’s confident and caring but has his vulnerable side as well and that his sexy in it’s on right. Rachel is witty and smart and has a great sense of humor. I wouldn’t mind them having a more longer book cause these two are great and then had Shea, Calder’s daughter, and it’s a perfect mix!! Like I said the only thing wrong with this book was it was to short!!! - By Tina

4.0 out of 5 stars The hockey player
Calder is the ultimate dad who dresses up and treats his daughter like treasure, meeting someone while dressed up just makes it all more sweet.
Rachel and Calder have an instant connection and have such fun, cute dates.
This book was super cute, sweet, steamy and reminds me of a good ice cream sundae- sinful but delicious.

4.0 out of 5 stars BRILLIANT
Fabulous single hot dad story. Calder is a single dad to a five year old, Rachel is a gorgeous, witty and fun kindergarten teacher. When Calder bumps into Rachel as they both come out of a donut place toilet, sparks fly and they share an instant connection. This is a brilliant love story, it’s fun, romantic and very sexy. The story is quick paced and captivating and the characters are well developed. Meghan Quinn is the Queen of romantic comedy and this book is no exception!
