Back To Bienville, A Journey Into Wellness Kindle Edition
But in spite of her optimistic attitude and everything that sounded helpful that she tried, her physical condition continued to grow worse. Instead of being able to rally to the challenge before her and conquer it as she believed she would, she watched the years pass by as even more mysterious health issues surfaced, until the fierce hope she’d held onto so tightly turned into deep, dark despair. There seemed to be nothing else to try that might offer any real relief or restore any sort of quality of life to her existence. Worst of all, perhaps, there was no one who understood, no one who really seemed to care, and nowhere to turn -- or so it seemed. When she finally hit bottom, there was nowhere to look but up. For a moment, mind and body put aside, she cried out from deep within her spirit, and a door to the supernatural opened.
Follow her miraculous journey from hopelessness to wholeness. Step by step she travels a road that leads, not just to answers, but to the genuine truth behind the matter -- and not just to recovery, but to complete health. In the end, she learns that a lack of knowledge is by far the deadliest condition of them all...

- Reviewed in the United States on February 3, 2015BACK TO BIENVILLE, by Melinda Matthews, takes you on a richly detailed journey with the author, from her life of constant, debilitating illness to a life of full health. The author skillfully creates empathy in the reader, making you feel what she had been going through in her battles with Chronic Fatigue Immune Deficiency Syndrome, fibromyalgia and other illnesses. She takes you step by step and you share her limitations, doubts and frustrations.
The author's amazing faith and trust in God is evident as she moves forward in obedience to God's will as she understands it, step by step, day by day. I loved it when she wrote about the difference between God's perfect will and his permissive will. Living in God's permissive will, the author stated, is not a good place to be. Amen to that!
Reading this book is an existential experience. You share in the author's "lived experience." That quality is one thing that makes this book such a powerful testimony of faith in God. There is a saying that God meets you where you're at. You experience that, along with the author, as the author's relationship with God grows step by step, rung by rung, level by level. One example of this is that the author is led along the path of alternative medicine, which is greatly and richly detailed, and she receives amazing results and blessings along this path. But, God was only preparing her for something greater
If you have any health issues, READ this book! If you have any interest in alternative medicine, READ this book (you will learn a lot!). If you want to read a book about growing in faith, READ this book! If you have any interest in mysticism (and I do - currently reading works of St. John Of The Cross), READ this book!
Throughout this book, I was AMAZED at the author's POWER of exposition. She explains things so well, using logic and clear reasoning. This is especially evident after the author reaches a fork in her "homeopathic road."
This is a very educational, rewarding, and uplifting book, and it makes GREAT spiritual reading! The author traveled a very rough road, which really lends authenticity to this book, and it makes it a very fascinating book.
I VERY HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK!!!
- Reviewed in the United States on March 19, 2017First and foremost, I should say I am not religious at all and this book has a very strong religious and spiritual element to it. Even so, I found it a fascinating and compelling read so I think it has value for everyone. I've known many people with CFS (Chronic Fatigue Syndrome or ME) and it is a crushing and debilitating illness. Melinda Matthews had CFS and more. In fact it's amazing she survived at all, and the fact she is alive to tell her tale of her journey back to full health is remarkable in itself. What I found fascinating was the story of how she discovered homeopathy (which I too have found beneficial), acupuncture and spiritual healing. I learnt from Ms Matthews that all illness is rooted in stress, and this book shows how she managed to work her way through many immensely stressful situations with the help of firstly homeopathy and then her sheer determination to get well. This culminated in a spiritual healing service that rid her of her pain. In many respects although the book is about her, it isn't. It is about her condition and how she has found the way back to wellness. We know of but never hear about her marriage or other personal aspects of her life; the dog is just the dog and things happen that she does not include in the story as they are not important to her journey to health. Only those aspects of her life that have relevance to the path she treads and what she feels she needs to tell the reader are part of the book. In the end, while the author places much importance on the spiritual aspect of her healing, I might personally ascribe it to different reasons. However, that is not important. It is a an incredibly interesting and well-told story and I have learnt much from reading it. Ms Matthews also writes beautifully with no artifice or mannerisms - in some ways her style reminded me of John Steinbeck in its pure simplicity. If you are interested in alternative therapy and how it really can work and help towards healing, then I would recommend this book highly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Change Your Life by Reading this Book
“Back to Bienville” by Melinda Matthews is not only a life-changing, life-saving book—it’s a book that can save YOUR health and YOUR life.
After 20 years of suffering from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and a crashed immune system, Melinda was totally and miraculously healed. “Back to Bienville” chronicles that journey, and is packed with amazing extras from homeopathy, to acupuncture, to the power and authority of God’s Holy Spirit. Every person is comprised of body, soul, and spirit, and Melinda Matthews addresses all three, and introduces quantum physics intelligently and relevantly.
Her courage and faith shine through the words of “Back to Bienville,” but she did not write this book to collect accolades for herself. She wrote it to help YOU, the next reader. The Bible says that God has no greater desire than for His children to prosper and be in health. Melinda Matthews walks in the love and truth of that verse and every page of “Back to Bienville” radiates with that objective.
In a world filled with millions of books, “Back to Bienville” is one in a million.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Inspiring Spiritual Journey
Back to Bienville is a fascinating account of the author's journey from sickness to health. I was immediately drawn in by the description of her death during her childhood. (That's such an odd thing to write, more in line with a novel about the supernatural than real life, but sure enough she died when she was a kid and was brought back to life.)
From there she describes her battle with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. It a terrible affliction. I knew someone with CFS while I was in college, and it's debilitating. And so it was with great interest that I followed her 'out of the box' methods in searching for a cure, from chiropractics, to homeopathy to acupuncture. But what struck me most from reading her story is the wisdom she gained, particularly regarding God and His ability to heal. It's eye-opening. Not only that, I noticed interesting parallels between her life story and my own. Without getting into specifics, it underlined for me how similar we all are. We're all God's creations, and He can perform amazing things in our lives. All we have to do is ask.
Melinda Matthews story is an inspiring one, and definitely worth reading.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating
Although I have always enjoyed good health myself, I've always been very interested in any and all types of alternative medicine and healing. Melinda chronicles her journey from debilitated illness to newfound health in an informative, enlightening and entertaining story. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and absolutely recommend it to anyone who needs a little bit of a "push" to get themselves on the road to better health. Congratulations, Melinda!
