Wes

When I was a kid, my dad was the gardener for the richest man in town. His daughter, Lily Barnes, told me she could never like a guy like me. Then she kissed me and told me it would never happen again. When it happened again, she told me she could never love me because she was going to leave this place, and I would never leave my dad.

We were never quite friends, not exactly enemies, and we could never quite stop secretly kissing each other.

She never said goodbye before running off to try to make it as an actress. That was her dream, and I wanted her to chase it. Okay, maybe I hated her for it, just a little.

Now she’s back, with no money and even more sass.

A lot has changed around here...except for my hidden feelings about Lily Barnes.

Lily

So, it turns out I’m a terrible actress and now I’m back!

When my father offers me a job at his company, I actually think he’s finally decided I’m worthy of one day taking over the family business. Imagine my surprise when I find out that the gardener’s son is the one who’s being groomed to take over, and I’ve been assigned to work for him.

Wes Carver has always been rich in confidence and abs, but now he’s rich in everything, including disdain for yours truly.

If he thinks I’m not built to work, he’s wrong.

If he thinks he can boss me around just because he’s my boss, he’s delusional.

If he thinks I’m still the girl who could never love him...I may be a better actress than anyone thought.

This might be my favorite Kayley Loring novel. And that’s saying a lot because I love her work and it’s hard not to fall in love with her heroines and heroes. But Back for More has left me with one of the best book hangovers ever. I received an arc from the author last week and I still can’t get the characters and story out of my mind. They might just be there permanently now and I don’t hate it.
This has angst, but it’s the delicious twisty kind, not the I’m gonna pull all my hair out kind. Lily Barnes and Wes Carver have been fighting (and failing) their attraction to each other since day one. Since they were teenagers. For nine long years they’ve deprived themselves of whatever it is brewing between them for lots of different reasons. Some you might be on board for. Others you might just think so what? But I was all for it. It definitely makes more sense if you read the story 🤣.
Lily is beautiful and beautifully complicated. Her reasoning is puzzling at times, but I could never fault her for that. She’s so funny!! I loved being inside her head. Her sense of humor was pitch perfect. Loved her silly self. Loved her interactions with her bestie and her bestie’s family. Younger Lily needed to do things her way and to find herself. But it turns out in order to truly find herself and really grow, she needed to return home and come face to face with everything she ran away from in the first place.
Wes Carver. Where do I begin? If you ever find yourself with your very own Wes, never take him for granted. Love him and respect him. Wow!! He is the book hero I’ve been searching for. He’s a simple man. He wants what he wants and nothing else is going to be nearly as satisfying so what’s the point in trying anything else. That’s the mindset I got from Wes. He works hard and he’s been waiting for the day Lily returns. But he had planned it all out for when he’d actually be ready for her. But Lily isn’t someone you can plan for. Girl’s gonna do whatever girl wants to do. Hence the hilarity that is Wes Carver. He’s charming and swoon worthy and has a great sense of humor. Loved his POV as well.
Together they are just the best. Their chemistry is off the charts. Hawt.
I loved how vulnerable they allowed themselves to be with one another. I loved all of the second characters as well. I cried a bit towards the end too! This story brought out all of the feels. It’s romantic, funny, clever and heartwarming. It’s Kayley Loring! You know it’s gonna be good. But she really went all out with Back for More and I thank her for all of her hard work. Loved this story and I’ll definitely be back for more, because it’s a book that needs to be reread over and over. Just like a favorite movie never gets old, I think this might be the book version of that for me. And this book cover? NICE 👍. Also no ow/om drama. It’s pure goodness overload. Enjoy 😉

So feisty and refreshing - I loved this book. It seems like every Kayley Loring book I read is even better than the last, and I have zero complaints about that. This book features a hero who has remained steadfast in his love for his heroine, using the time spent apart to prove himself worthy of her love. Wes and Lily met when they were teens - he’s the son of her father’s groundskeeper - and they both felt an immediate connection to each other (whether they wanted to or not). Lily always knew she’d be leaving town, and she didn’t want a relationship with Wes to hold her back - and she absolutely knew that he had the power to do so. When she returns to town 5 years later after her attempt to become an actress doesn’t go according to plan, she starts working for her father’s company... only the tables have turned. The groundkeeper’s son is now her boss, and the change in their dynamic will take a little getting used to.

This book is so easy to read, it felt like the pages were flying. Wes is such a fantastic guy, and Lily puts up a good fight but she’s always known that she’s no match for the chemistry that sparks between them. The inclusion of some flashback scenes made it so we get a real sense of where they stand with each other, and I loved that there was never anyone else who could compare. It’s a refreshing and romantic book that is certainly worth a read. I received an ARC via Booksprout in exchange for an honest review, and then I purchased the book for my collection.

"On some level, I guess I always trusted that he wouldn’t let me go, no matter where I went. No matter how either of us tries to push each other away, it’s the pull that defines us."

When you check the backlog of an author you love, you may get the feeling that this is not the author you fell in love with, because the older books are not so good. Or maybe you fall in love with the older work and you find the most recent one pales in comparison.
Maybe you remain in love. Yeah, that’s me, and Kayley Loring’s writing. Also, I’m proclaiming Kayley my epilogue queen.

I loved Wes. I usually love Kayley’s heroes, and this one really is the perfect package of bossy, annoying, sweet, protective, and hot. Plus, he’s into classic rock. I mean... Rolling Stones and ‘Beast of Burden’. Give me a break. It’s just not fair.

I really liked Lily, and I liked that she had the guts to leave it all behind to pursue her dreams. OK, they might not have come true the way she wanted them to, but she tried. She may have made some questionable choices, but her heart was in the right place. Or maybe she left that behind, too.

Wes and Lily met when they were teens. He was the caretaker’s son, and 2 years older than her. Is it possible to fall in love when you're a teen? Yes, it is. Is it possible that person is the one for you and no one can ever measure up? Yep, that too. Do you leave that person behind to chase your dreams? You may, I suppose. But what happens when you come back, 5 years later, and realize nothing's really changed?

Lily’s coming back to town to work at her dad’s real estate company, and her boss is Wes. Wes went to college, and made a life for himself in their small town. He seems like so much more than what he used to be, but he’s still the same person deep down.

Wes wanted to be more for her. He had this weird idea that he needed to be worthy of her somehow, and so he’s working on it. He didn’t expect her back so soon, and he still feels he’s undeserving. He’s so wrong.

It’s clear to see their chemistry never went away. And 5 years apart is a lot of pent-up everything, so when they let go... let’s just say they make up for it. And their banter, and the two of them together at work? I loved it.
I also loved the flashback scenes to when they were teens. It gives an insight to what they were really about. Their friends are hilarious, and Lily’s broken-and-in-need-of-work relationship with her dad only adds to a really great story.

Back For More is a mix of first love, second chance, and office romance. It’s a low-angst, happy-feeling, romantic book about the one who may have gotten away, but was never really gone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Such a delightful book to read!

I’ve been working my way through Kayley Loring’s back catalogue. This book is from 2019 and it’s an absolute gem. A standalone that stands out for the sheer sweet hotness with zero angst.

I adore Kayley’s books for their snarky wit and sarcasm. Her FMCs are always a delight, even if they’re a pain. There’s lots of humour, lots of heat, lots of love.

Wes and Lily… sigh. Lily always swore she was leaving her small town of Belford, and she knew Wes would never leave his father. There is so much more to unpack in this story, but he doesn’t even hate her really. He just know she’s the one and he’s the first to admit it. And she very quickly realizes it too. They are like magnets that cannot stay apart.

They wait for each other, they love, they risk, they conquer. All without even a wobble (unless you count the major wobble of her leaving for five years a wobble, but it happens at the beginning, so nope.

I do love books where love is not a constant struggle and if you do too, this is the book for you. They are so good together, it’s a bit of magic.

That letter at the beginning 😩 I honestly thought he wouldn’t read it and when he did 😭 ⁣

I was so nervous to read this as it got further into the story, these have loved each other for so many years and I was sat hoping and praying it didn’t turn into a cliche typical story, her been in love, being a virgin, him being heartbroken and sleeping around etc and I’m so happy it wasn’t! ⁣

Wes knew she’d be back, he didn’t know when but he knew she would be and I love that, because it showed their love for each other was real. Damn did he love her 😍 I loved it and all the characters except her dad even though I did cry at the grave scene 🙈

Even though from the beginning you knew they would be together, I loved the funny banter and story they told. We don’t always need a drama within the story because that is not always the case. Great book ❤️💙 love
